He wasn't being "racist" he was making "Anti-Semitic" statements.
"Jewish" is not a race.
As for Bono, all he did was to get Bush to use U.S. Taxpayer dollars to "forgive" loans that were made to third world countries by big banks.
Oh, and they'll make MORE loans to those countries who can't pay them back!
Yeah, Bono's pretty brave with other people's money.
Meanwhile HE sits on a $100 M and lives in a swanky part of Dublin next to Enya in her refurbished castle
Lions 1, U.S. Taxpayers 0.

Forgive him if you want to, or don't.

I am not sure how someone forgives a stranger he only sees on the big screen.... but, what bothers me is that Mel has spoken out in the past regarding his being (or not being) an anti-semite.  Gibson's father is a known anti-semite who believes the holocaust never happened.  Gibson never disassociated himself from his father's views, and when asked about it in the past, stated that his father had never lied to him.

Then the drunken episode comes along....   I have always liked Mel Gibson's movies, but would not enjoy watching them after all of this.  I don't forgive him or not forgive him... but I feel sorry for him for being so ignorant.  All the fame and fortune in the world can't change that.

rich catholic drunk driver turns out to be bigotted....shock horror.
i've sat in a diner in New Orleans and heard comments ten times as bad every few minutes from random people, racism (or theoism, just for popeye) is endemic to some. For me the worst part is the drunk driving, i don't mind if  people want to wrap themselves round trees, but they shouldnt put anyone else at risk while they do it.

Forgive everybody.  Always.  If you can not forgive others, do not expect to be forgiven yourself.

I don't expect nor want forgiveness. If I ought to apologise for something I do so. It doesn't matter whether I'm forgiven or not.  Either I think the apology was deserved or I don't. Forgiveness is for the other person to deal with if they wish to. Not my concern.

Should he be fogiven? Forgiven from who? The guy was drunk and then arrested. Just like a good drunk who wants to resist arrest, he said anything and everything that came to his mind to piss off a cop. If he needs to be sorry, he should appologize the the officer and the police force for giving them such a ruff time.

So he made some Jewish racial slurs. Like Carlos Mancia suggested, it was probably German Beer that he got drunk off of.

For some reason, the entire Jewish community wants an appology from Mel. However, they now want more than just appology after appology. After all, any good Jew sees an opportunity to make a little money off this ordeal.

That's right, I said it. Put me on the 10 o'clock news.

Similar here. But I figure if I was wrong, I should apologise by learning from it and not repeating the mistake. Then I can maybe forgive myself.

I don't think being drunk was an excuse, there was no suggestion anyone he was talking to was Jewish so where did it come from unless it was part of his make up to begin with?

I know everyone is capable of saying dumb things when drunk but I'm not convinced his apology to the Jewish community isn't motivated more by saving his career than a feeling of remorse.

It is interesting how much coverage and outrage were directed at Mel, while around the same time, a Muslim fanatic shot and killed 2 Jews in Washington State and I don't recall much coverage about that. At least not anywhere near what Mel received. Interesting.

Part one, he read the cops name badge.

Part two, how are his comments damaging his career? If anything, the Jewish uprising and media attention is helping it. I don't see him loosing whords of fans over this. Other than sucking up a little more to the Jewish movie producers he's going to have it made. If anything, those producers will try to have him in or make more Jewish related films so they can make more money off Mels ways to say he's sorry.

Any how, who's going to remember this ever happened in a year from now? Only VH1 will remind us of it every so often and then the following program will cause us to forget again.

It's not like this is a big shocker. A celebrity getting drunk, pulled over for DWI, and makinging obnoxious offensives to the the cops. WOW! Who would have thought it could happen?
