Exactly. I've never advocated that people like Hitler should be allowed to go on their merry way just because they aren't "bad". Society has a responsibility to protect all its citizens, and so some just have to put somewhere where they can cause no harm to others.

As for the death penalty...Oh...dare I even address this topic...

I believe in the death penalty as a way to end the suffering of people who are too mentally ill to live a healthy life, and constitute a threat to others. In my advanced years, I've come to think it's a kinder fate than being locked up forever, and tormented in prison.

Dang Madame Tigresse, you've just tempted out a political statement from me...something I always try to avoid! (You're just too darn seductive for your own good!)

I do not believe in the death penalty, but I do understand how others can support it. If someone killed a loved one of mine, it is quite possible that I would kill them myself. This may be hypocritical , but it is what it is. We really differ on this, cin, lol. The last thing I'd do is execute someone to put them out of their suffering.

I have to say this is a hard subject to even think about.

Given my protective attitude towards children (occupational hazard), and animals (thanks to my grandfather's genes), I can not, with any good conscience, say I can predict what my actions would be, if I was ever confronted with someone doing harm to either.

I'm only human...

I said little when I mentioned justifiable.
I know death by my own hand would be unexcusable in my God's eyes..but having but weighed 85 pounds most of my entire life, if the only way to stop something horrific especially regarding  a wee one, I feel I would do it if, and only if,  super human strengh or reasoning did not work. My small self has cowered the biggest of people and that has never been an option.
I am not afraid just because of my small size. I would probably risk my own life instead to save another if it came down to it.

Some people just do not ever develop the part of their brain that controls reason...it is those that scare me the most, as more than likely they cannot control it themselves either by birth defect, damage or abuse.

Andrea Yates for example Level....I am torn on that decision by her re trial.

Yates is one that has come to my mind during this thread too, SF. Part of me absolutely loathes her for what she did. But..... I truly think she's insane. One doctor was on tv the other day talking about how every time the medicine gets Yates close to coherent, she begins to realize what she did, and it literally throws her back into madness, a vicious cycle.

I dont think she was inherently an evil person of sort..I would tend to tie back to emotional abuse maybe or true mental disease.  This is just truly a sad case in my eyes. 

I do not keep up to date on alot of news...it bothers me to much...sometimes I prefer to remain ignorant. I just caught a glimpse on the AOL welcome screen regarding her case recently.

Jeffrey Dalmer now....I have opposite thoughts on him....I believe he never had the development of reason. I think he was born that way.

It is hard to define a bad person...there are just way to many individual equations to consider.
