I dont think that most are aware but there is much great information being lost on collarme daily with every new post thats posted here and I will just hate to see so many posts leave the web in such a short time. We have allready lost the first two months of posts to the collarme forums here and with it the beginnings and information of a great site. I know there are sum whom take issue with My going back and revisiting some posts but well lets just say that I want to make ALL aware befor I move on that many things here that could be of use to the newbie or even to the more experianced will be soon lost into the W W W oblivion. Am I the only One here that notices such information ? Am I the only One here whom thought to save those beginning posts from day One? I know things must change but I had asked the Mods last month what the action was going to be concerning the saving of Collarme content. Or maybe I should not even be thinking or worrying about such issues, after all I am just a member. Maybe there is no value in anyones posts and eventually everything will be removed for the newest posts? Yes that is the reason why
I am going thru and revisiting posts that I feel have sum value to the current members. Should I care? I wonder...............Happy Holidays All!

MD,

The last time I checked, there were no rules against digging up old posts .... although I do wish some of them would die on the vine. You have just as much right to keep the old threads going as someone else has to create new ones. ((Although ... I do wish you'd stop using the word 'whom' when 'who' is grammatically correct ..... but then, I'm anal about these things))

o.O

Afraid of losing threads that are -months- old? Most of the forums (both kink and non) that I visit would probably temp-ban someone who bumped months old threads for the sake of bumping months old threads.

Then again, they tend to get 20+ new threads a day. I guess this forum is just slow like molasses in July in Antartica.

Its not the threads I fear losing Molecular
but content of good information from some
very informitive people with in Our lifestyle.
Of course there are thousands of other sites
out there older then this one that like You stated
do not let its content survive either and are
now totally over run by soothsayers and
non lifestylers whom pass on bad information
on MY Lifestyle. But then again maybe that is
what You desire to see here at collarme?JMO.
There are way more comming here daily that
know nothing about Our Lifestyle then those
whom are here to assist and give good and real
information into Alternate Lifestyle living, and
not just the part time D/s side of it, which by
the way is a VERY small part of Alternate Lifestyles
all tho many here are a part of this side of it.
There has been many changes since the first day
here and there will be many more changes befor
this place to goes into the W W W oblivion and
I for one would like to see it continue in the same
direction it did from the beginning...Ask just how
many here are left from the first 20 or so original
members to the Boards not counting the Mods and
you will see that allready something both in their
presance and words are lost. Again JMO

Well for trying to find info that was posted and has since been lost you might want to check the wayback machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.collarme.com/forum/

This web crawling robot last indexed the entire collarme forums Feb 21, 2004

The people running the Internet Archive Wayback Machine are the ones showing their age. Perhaps Sherman is running the show there these days :)

Content is best reiterated, rather than buried in ancient history.

Information is never lost, it merely changes hands.

You're an idiot for assuming that because SOME forums out there become infested with folk who think it's their duty to force people to see things THEIR way, that must mean I'm talking about those forums. There are plenty of other forums that are perfectly good and informative that never have to dredge up ancient history in order to teach someone.

And you can take "your" lifestyle and [self-censor]. The world does not play by your rules. Everyone has a different opinion on what's good and what's bad. You're free to share your view points, but don't try and claim that your way is the only way.

Oh you've got to be kidding me. Are you SERIOUSLY one of those strange wannabes who thinks that the people who were at a place first are "more important" than anyone who comes after? Or am I reading that wrong?

I dont know why you are viewing post losses but I am able to go back to the first posts on the site just by scrolling through the pages. We are not aware of any lost posts, but if you feel that specific posts are missing, please send an email to [email protected] with the specific details of your concern, and we will investigate.

When I scroll to page 37 of General BDSM I see posts where the last response was on Jan 21st and Health and safety from Jan 18th etc.

We do not have it set up where any posts are deleted, ever, and we get about 6000 posts a month. Please refrain from bumping old posts, as it becomes an annoyance and interferes with the flow of new conversation.

In the future, we may set up a 'Best Of' forum which can be used as an archive to store the best posts, so that it would put the most informative discussuions in one place for new users and a stroll down memory lane for some of the older ones.

Thank you,

ModOne

What happens after 365 days of posting is up? Will we still be able to retrieve the posts older than 365 days?

there is an option to show all posts up to 365 days and one that says all posts. Just click on all posts and you will see everything. So far the forum has only been around for 347 days.

You're an idiot for assuming

Moleculor you sometimes have good things to say, and I've enjoyed following some of your posts. It would be nice if you could manage to tone things down a bit though. One wonderful thing about this site is that while people disagree, they are less likely to do it via blunt attacks. You are very free to voice your opinion. I encourage it. But, calling someone an idiot because they voiced THEIR opinion is a bit over the top to me.

She does have a very valid point. There are some people who are more knowledgeable and when they share their information, it is valuable. I love having access to such. While old doesn't mean better, neither does new. Would you dispose of the works of Einstein because we have Stephen Hawking? Of course not. In any endeavour, we learn from those who have come before us.

And, there is a real problem with the "mainstreaming" of BDSM. It means a lot of people are figuring it out on their own, rather than having the help of a mentor. It is wonderful that we have more scene friendly people. But for some, the only mentoring they get is via these forums. I personally would not bump an old thread unless I had something to say on the subject. I can see why someone who was interested in sharing what they considered to be valuable knowledge would do so. We have different people on the site daily. It might be interesting to get a new perspective by hearing what they have to say about the older stuff.

I think this is a wonderful idea and if it can be implemented without pulling you folks through hoops backwards, would be a neat thing. Would the posts also remain in their original locations? Or would it be a "hall of fame" type thing where they would be pulled to the new location and while people could respond to threads already there, only Mods could add a thread to that forum?

I rather be thought an idiot by one then to actually be a mole....culor...

mole = A small congenital growth on the human skin, usually slightly raised and dark and sometimes hairy, especially a pigmented nevus

culor = gorge or gully
