Main Entry: ag·o·ny
Pronunciation: 'a-g&-nE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -nies
Etymology: Middle English agonie, from Late Latin agonia, from Greek agOnia struggle, anguish, from agOn gathering, contest for a prize, from agein to lead, celebrate -- more at AGENT
1 a : intense pain of mind or body : ANGUISH, TORTURE b : the struggle that precedes death
2 : a violent struggle or contest
3 : a strong sudden display (as of joy or delight) : OUTBURST
synonym see DISTRESS

I looked this up just because I wanted to see if perhaps I was just not communicating my thoughts correctly....

Number three was truly perplexing, as it is thrown in with the other definitions, and I wonder if it is related to what I am trying to convey? I certainly wasn't talking about the process of dying or physical agony, I was talking about the welling up of emotions. Perhaps we just are not on the same page.

Ah, yes!  Hanoi Jane...the traitor who gave aid and comfort to the enemies of our servicemen, who were giving their lives so she could have the freedom to betray them. How's that for agony?

Uhhhhhhhhh... don't we sent all kinds of aid to the middle east and other areas where our enemies reside?

That's our government at work...however misguided it may be, just like Vietnam was. What she did was the act of an individual citizen. In other times, that would have been considered treason...giving aid and comfort to the enemy...which is punishable by death. However, now she's being considered as one of the top 100 women of the 20th century.

This has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, my post about Jane Fonda had nothing to do with Vietnam or anything political whatsoever, it was about the loss of a parent and how this loss can haunt an entire life. Please be mindful and respectful of the topic at hand.
