after 10 long years

As a mama of a beautiful, smart, and articulate 6-year-old daughter, this whole murder story moves me to tears. Every night I say (to whomever may be listening) "Anything to me, but please, not to my children."

MistressLorelei -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 4:12:09 PM)

What a shame the Ramsey's not only lost their daughter, but they lost their credibility, their careers, their home.  The Ramsey's son was checked for sexual (and other) abuse, and was thought by the majority of the public to be the son of the crazy, evil people who killed their own child.

They were tried by the press and individual law enforcement... and they lost.... till now, when it's too late to make much of a difference.  How tragic.

Very tragic, I agree, but let's not try this man until his court date.

LotusSong -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 4:17:39 PM)

Amazing.. after all this time. I'm so glad!

I didn't say a word about the man... but apparently all the evidence the police said they had that could only point to the Ramsey's, ended up apparently able to point to someone else too.

Law enforcement almost always does what's easiest to do. I wish it were otherwise, but this case is your proof. It doesn't mean that such assumptions are right or fair.

Fucking sad.

MmakeMme -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 5:14:45 PM)

I recently saw a snippet of a documentary of a scientist explaining the "death experience". While I typically dismiss such over-intellecutalism as shinola, this man said that his theory was that consciousness existed outside the human body and the human body's experience. It struck a chord. Let's hope his hypothesis is correct. Although it wouldn't necessarily bring a child murderer to justice, it does mean that the universe is watching.

fyreredsub -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 5:37:05 PM)

i for one am amazed. i was convinced by all the reports of the evidence that indeed it was someone from the family.
it just goes to show you how media can weave a spell so convincing

fyreredsub -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 5:39:03 PM)

wonders if he will get a fair trial.everyone so wished to see the killer of jonbenet brought to justice.
allegedly he knows details of the crime that weren't ever released

SusanofO -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 5:55:22 PM)

I never believed they killed their own child. They just seemed to be too white bread all- American for that. Besides, they had zero history of child abuse, and how could anyone who did not kill their own child? I thought what the media did to the Ramseys was criminal.

I remember pundits suggesting that her brother killed her so her parents staged the murder to cover up for the son.. .what happened to the Ramesy's was sick

KatyLied -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 6:23:43 PM)

I want to see them explain away all of the evidence that came from the family (?)  Including the infamous ransom note.  This should be interesting.

WyrdRich -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 6:34:51 PM)

Now watch some damn lawyer get his confession thrown out because the Thai's have a different legal system and "he didn't understand his rights."

I'm thinking of that South Park episode where they lumped the Ramsey's in with OJ and others.  I can't say I ever consciously believed them guilty but I laughed good and hard at that one.

MmakeMme -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/16/2006 6:51:36 PM)

Ah, South Park. Their creators / animators / writers are equal opportunity offenders. ~ laughing in spite of herself ~

That's what's so great about South Park.

Actually, the media was just reporting what the incompetent "investigators" and DA selectively leaked to them.

Here was a high profile case and they had no clue who really did it, so they used the press to convict the family in the court of public opinion and create the illusion they had "solved" it. I saw a documentary a couple of years ago where the reporters (and/or family) hired a private investigator who found plenty of evidence pointing away from the family. Of course, this happened after the initial media frenzy died down so didn't get much attention.

What next? OJ finds the REAL killers of Nicole?

the ex wife has provided the suspect with an alibi

Arpig -> RE: arrest in jon benet murder case (8/17/2006 7:17:28 AM)

I have always wondered why this particular case became international news. A little girl got killed, and because she is a tarted up little beauty-pageant doll it becomes a national obsession?

Those who feel that what was done to the family was criminal are correct, but unfortunatly as long as America is obsessed with celebrities and psuedo-celebrities it will happen again. And again. And again.
