This is a bizarre story ,
It was evil, evil looking. And it had a horrible stench, I will never forget,
There is a color photo of the beast  in the Bangor Daily News , Newspaper,
But i didn't see the photo online..
i have actually seen one of these creatures myself...one fleeting moment This creature ran in front of my truck,,, it was unlike anything i had ever seen...every one looked at me like i was on drugs when i told the story of the creature..   ps got this link from chaingang with a photo ,    thank you chaingang...

Author Stephen King lives in Bangor (really, he does).
I'll bet it was his pet and it just escaped at night, hehe.

I have to say this: Why are these creatures always portrayed as evil? Because nobody seems to know what they are? Because they have "glowing eyes"? Because they kill cats? Hey, Grizzly bears kill cats, too. Nobody thinks they're evil - in fact, people have been giving little kids Teddy bears for years.

Poor thing. I think he-she-it deserves a decent funeral and burial.
I, for one, plan on sending flowers!

Story was rather vague. I would definitely like to see photos.

Nah, you don't want to see pictures, for to see the beast would surely drive you to the brink of madness. Such things cannot exist and yet they do, the realization of this will shatter your perceptions and your mind.

Besides, the Miskatonic Society will have already confiscated the evidence.

Nope.  I'm still alive.

But the stench part is accurate.

Glad you are still among the living. You and my Beagle dog have that stench thing in common, benji.

Thanks for the article and pic, Chaingang.

Oh c'mon. It looks like a cross between a black wolf and a German Shepard.
How dangerous could it be? It's not as big as a Grizzly bear anyway.
I still think it escaped from Stephen King's basement. Poor baby.

You'd be acting evil too, if people portrayed you the way this poor lil' fella's being portrayed.

I'll bet he never got bacon doggie snacks, benji. If he's been in a bad mood, that has to be one reason why.

Ugh!  I saw a photo online yesterday morning..................don't remember exactly where, though.

Only 2 photos.  It looked like a Tasmanian Devil's head on a black Wolf, or Coyote's body.

Whether hybrid or mutation.............I would not have wanted to encounter it in the dead of night!

I know, I was almost thinking that. He doesn't really look dangerous to me, or that exotic. Of course, now he's (she's?) dead, that's easy to say. Maybe it was dangerous, but I do kind of feel sorry for it. My doggies have beds on every floor of my house, plus lots of toys and bacon snacks.

It's eyes are that of death, and you can see the tartar on it's back teeth!

Nah, it's real - the body looks like a wolf, the head more like a pit bull of some kind.

Yikes! Well, that would be one way to maybe tell what it is, wouldn't it (kinda sorta)?...You really are a Carnivore doggie, aren't you, benji?!

Other than the head, it looks like a Belgian Sheepdog (although I suppose it could be a black German Shepherd or black wolf, his fur is a bit matted); perhaps it's that crossed with some short-snouted dog like a Pit Bull Terrier or Boxer?

Clearly he's evil though... the work of Satan - eyes glowing in the dark and all, one of the Hounds of Hell, I suppose... irrefutable evidence for Satanic Design...

Geez, no wonder this poor doggie-wolf-creature was in such a howly mood sometimes - all this talk of him being the right hand of Satan, etc. Poor baby. Makes me wish somebody would have taken him to a shelter or something.

I do think it's possible he was a creature that has never been classified by zoology. Why not? It certainly is possible, I think - but that doesn't make it evil.

Sorry if I am wrecking the air if mystery and evil that the residents of Maine obviously want to believe this poor creature of the night was imbued with. I just think he probably had a scarey existence, and that might be one reason he had that awful howl. As for the stench, well - why don't you try not taking a bath for 15 years, and see how you smell?...
