I've learned to live with my curls.. I use a combination of products that over the years I've found works well for me... Found a system for blow drying that goes faster when I decide to straighten my hair and I have this wonderful ceramic straighten that does wonders and doesn't ruin the heck outta my hair. BUt that still didn't stop my hair from getting stuck on the chair the other day when I was sitting in a classroom... That part still really sucks

Well i live with my curls but i don't like them. I find myself pulling it straight whilst watching tv or reading. My hair is damaged from dying too much, i havent had my natural colour since i was 15. My hair is always in the way - short wud be so much easier. However i wont cut it - damn.

Yikes sounds like you need to do some general maintinence on it to keep it healthy. I've managed to keep my hair nice and shiny and I generally just do a trim on it every three weeks or so to get the splits ends off so that they don't end up splitting all the way up. I find that if my hair is bothering me as it does often in the heat here I just pull it up into a pile on the top of my head or back into a pony tail and that stops me from messing with it.

Maybe i should put my hsir in therapy. Help it regain its health.

I hope you girls are using a silicone based product to protect your hair before you straighten it! Make sure any of the hair oils that you may use on your hair before you straighten it aren't high in alcohol content as it will just dry your hair out even more. Joico has a wonderful deep conditioner called K-Pak. You can get it in professional salons. I use K-Pak on my ALL of  clients that have damaged hair from repeated highlighting and coloring. Happy styling ladies!

I hate my curls - i dont use a detangler i use a spanish leave in conditioner that i stock up on every year when i visit my parents. What bugs me about my hair is twenty minutes to wash it, condition it. 40 minutes to dry it and 30 to straighten it. [:@]

I live near the gulf.  I used to straighten my hair when I lived up north and it'd be so purty for two days, no need to wash every day.  Here it frizzes and curls the moment I step outside, and of course you have to wash curly hair every day because once you sleep on it it's a big ol' mess.  Blah.

Also: I could not survive without John Frieda Frizz-ease products.

I washed and left mine curly yesterday so its tied back in a kind of bun today. Left down i wud look like i had been dragged thru a hedge backwards and if id brushed it frizz city. Good job noone has seen me today lol.
I've tried every anti frizz treatment going and none of them work. The only thing that controls my hair is my leave in conditioner i have to travel hundreds of miles to buy.

I used to have the same problem with my hair. Now I keep a wide tooth comb in the shower and after I apply the conditioner I comb it through...and as I am rinsing it I comb through it. When I get out I don't rub it dry with the towel, I just let it set with the towel around it for 15 minutes or so. Then I apply a leave in detangling/conditioner when I comb through it. No more snarls or tangles and the comb just glides through.

If we gain these answers, this may be the most helpful and insightful thread on this forum (imho).

While I love long hair on a woman and would never suggest getting a significantly shorter haircut, if any of you do go for it there is a wonderful charity called Locks of Love that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition,  chemotherapy, etc. and some salons will cut and style your hair for free if you donate it.  At least give the hair to someone who needs it if you do cut it.

slaveintheruff and captiveplatypus..A lot depends on the texture of your hair. What works for me may not work for you. I have fine hair and I am extremely happy with Biolage Curl Defining Creme and Schwarzkopf Anti Frizz Gloss. slaveintheruff you cannot buy K-Pak at Sally's and you can expect to pay about 15 dollars for a tube of the deep conditioner. It is a little expensive BUT you don't have to use a ton of it to deep condiotion your hair. In most cases using more is not better, just wasteful. Schwarzkopf also has an excellent line of products. They have a wonderful straightener called Osis Flattening Liquid. I have extremely kinky, curly hair and when I use the flattening liquid its like I straightened my hair with a flat iron. I hope this helps and I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have [:)]

Biolage is wonderful...Matrix is good.  Now I don't straighten my hair...no point to it.  It is SO curly, it's almost scary.  I've tried growing it long because I was told that the weight of the hair tends to straighten it a bit.  NOT!  So, I wash, condition and put on Matrix smoothing creme.  Then I let it air dry and use a wide tooth comb.  It doesn't frizz.  It curls like the dickens, but no frizz.

yeah, it's really kind of in that inbetween stage where it can't decide whether it wants to be curly or straight.  Hair emulates my life and total indecisiveness!
