~ fast reply ~

I feel all the tangly pain here, girlies.
My hair is somewhat curly and is halfway down my back.  I have always loved pretty long hair that is well kempt, so I go through the same ritual that you all speak of.  It's worth it to see my Master smile and compliment the way it looks.

slaveintheruff and captiveplatypus..A lot depends on the texture of your hair. What works for me may not work for you. I have fine hair and I am extremely happy with Biolage Curl Defining Creme and Schwarzkopf Anti Frizz Gloss. slaveintheruff you cannot buy K-Pak at Sally's and you can expect to pay about 15 dollars for a tube of the deep conditioner. It is a little expensive BUT you don't have to use a ton of it to deep condiotion your hair. In most cases using more is not better, just wasteful. Schwarzkopf also has an excellent line of products. They have a wonderful straightener called Osis Flattening Liquid. I have extremely kinky, curly hair and when I use the flattening liquid its like I straightened my hair with a flat iron. I hope this helps and I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have [:)]

So do we have to go to a salon for these or do you know of a good website we can order them from?  I know not all salons carry the same products and I don't want to go salon trolling if I don't have to. [:)]

captiveplatypus,

If you would google the products I mentioned, and your city, you can  get a list of salons that carry those products. I would be extremely wary of sites that sell to the public. If they don't ask you for a license number then I wouldn't purchase the products from the site because there is a very good chance that the products you purchase from that site were obtained illegally. Mass retailers who get a hold of products such as Paul Mitchell, Biolage etc. have more than likely been sold of the back of a truck..meaning they were being shipped back to the manufacturer because of a recall or bad batch and the driver wanted to make a few bucks. If you purchase your products in a salon they will be guaranteed. Your best bet would be to find an individual stylist who would sell you the products. They may be a little more likely to give you a price break. The mark up on the products is rediculous!! I personally don't charge my clients the suggested retail price. I want my clients to have great hair and using bad products because they can't afford the better ones won't help them or me! Have a great Monday [:)]

FelinePersuasion -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 9:35:18 AM)

It takes me all of 10 to 20 mins to wash my below tailbone length hair. But it takes 3 hours or so for it to airdry since I am positivly against hairdryers for my hair.

I hate my curls - i dont use a detangler i use a spanish leave in conditioner that i stock up on every year when i visit my parents. What bugs me about my hair is twenty minutes to wash it, condition it. 40 minutes to dry it and 30 to straighten it. [:@]

I wonder if damaged hair would grow back healthy if you shaved your head? Not saying you should or could or anything I was just wondering.

In light of your new job, being shaved would help with the fleas. [:D]

*scritches behind her ear* yeah, maybe. :p

In the old days when slaves were transported in less than ideal conditions by ship, their heads were shaved to help contol infestations of lice.

Inhibitor -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 7:10:03 PM)

My hair runs about five inches past my hips (and I'm nearly 6' tall). I haven't cut it in eleven years. Maintaining it is most certainly a pain in the ass. The solution: net a significant other with a long hair fetish, and make them do all the work for you. ^ ^

Irishblu -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 7:19:59 PM)

I just had 6 inches cut off of mine and it is still 3 inches below my shoulders.  It is naturally curly and a pain with this Tx humidity!  I keep it all one length because I've not found anyone here yet I trust to cut it.  I have very thick hair and as you all know if cut wrong, it looks like crap.  I have come to love Repair and Shine from Farouk.  I put it in while wet and let it dry on it's own.  I also don't brush my hair.  I have a wide tooth comb I use and it also keeps the frizz down.

justheather -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 7:27:52 PM)

I use lots of conditioner. Don't shampoo every day. If you take a shower every day, just condition and LEAVE IT IN even if it isnt a leave-in product (unless it's something super rich, then rinse it off and put on a lighter conditioner to leave in). Joico does make excellent products. If you can think of any friends with professional licenses you can get the good stuff for half the retail price.
I swear by:

Phyto Defrissant
Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
Pureology Hydrate Conditioner (lightest)
Pureology Reconstruct Conditioner (heavy, use after washing)
Pureology Nanoworks Conditioner (super heavy and obscenely expensive, so a bottle lasts me six months, literally)

And finally, DO NOT blow dry your hair. Hydrate the hell out of it and let it dry naturally with the phyto stuff on it.

I hated my hair for 35 years. With a combination of the right cut and products I really love my curls now.

captiveplatypus -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 7:36:48 PM)

I can't leave conditioner in my hair because if there's too much crap in it the curls look all pathetic, but if I don't use something my head's a big poofball.

*checks just's profile* wow!  Yes, that is how I want my hair to look!

justheather -> RE: That's it!! I'm shaving it ALL OFF! (8/21/2006 7:55:25 PM)

LOL "all pathetic".
Well, if you can find the right balance of MOISTURE and CONTROL, you might be happier. Everyone is different, I know...but I think these are the two main factors. For the control part, you can use a really dense styling product like a wax or pommade JUST A TEENY TINY ITTY BITTY SMIDGE rubbed on your hands and then run your hands over your hair and scrunch the curls and they might get the definition they need to not look all droopy and sad :-).
Oh, and I sometimes lay on the end of the bed with my head upside down while my hair dries, but don't tell anybody, ok?
