I guess it was pointless to study, what with global warming such a certainty.

Well, the vast majority of the scientific community actually agrees with Al Gore, so you can ridecule him all you like, but they don't.

That's what Gore says. The truth is, there is a big debate in the scientific community about global warming. And I could be wrong, but this thread is Why Bush, not Gore is an idiot. Who is doing the ridiculing? I merely pointed out the truth of Gore's grades and the fact that there is debate over global warming. If you really believe that Bush is an actual idiot, well then I can understand why my points would have eluded you.

No, it's not what Gore says, it's what the scientists say.  Of a recent survey of scientists, all 19 climate scientists who saw the movie or read the accompanying book said that Gore got it right :
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/27/AR2006062700780.html

And no, there is no great debate in the scientific community about whether global warming is occurring, and that it is caused by man.  That's like saying there is a great debate about evolution in the scientific community.

And as far as why I am talking about Gore, see the quote that I included in my post - I was responding to babygirl, not you.  Did that elude you???

And to your point, here, yes, I absolutely believe that Bush is an idiot.  To my reckoning, I might as well listen to the loudmouthed guy at the corner bar.

Happy,

quote:

Furthermore, cheap goods from China are good for American consumers.

Except we aren't paying for them, we are mortgaging our houses to China and borrowing to buy those goods all while exporting more and more jobs without bothering to invent new ones, which is why the borrowing in the first place.

quote:

China is no threat to the US either economically or militarily; however they ARE a potentially huge market for US goods as their economy develops.

If you are right, you can thank Clinton but I disagree about the threat and so does the Pentagon and the neocons.

Economically, they are demanding more and more of the remaining oil reserves and if you think that won't lead to blows, you need to study history because resource wars are brutal and played for keeps.

As for their economy, do you really believe they are going to let us in?  Can you point to an example?  We never cracked the Japanese market and they aren't a dictatorship like China.  They are going to dangle that carrot but never ever lets us take a bite.   They didn't buy aircraft from Boeing, they forced them to build the plant in China and transfer technology.  If anyone is buying aircraft in the future, it won't be from us.  China isn't playing by the rules, they are playing hard and looking long term.

Our only hope is oil runs out slow enough we can get off of it and fast enough they can't, otherwise we are fucked.

I am just getting sick of people who have no clue about science, mouth off about it.  Yes, the majority of scientists beleive that global warming is happening, and yes, they beleive it's caused by man.  How do I know??? I *am* a scientist, genius, and I *read* those papers and talk with my colleagues.

It just makes me sick.  You have people with no education, no experience, and no knowledge in an area, and yet they pretend to be expert about it.  Only on the internet.

It's a nice agenda, the public parts would make a great first State of the Union, but then your political opponents would uncover your hobbies and start slow-roasting you over a 4 year fire.  Every subbie you ever wrapped a tail with (along with a bunch you'd never met) would be dragging you into court with lawyers paid for by Fundy Fanatics and Fox News would talking to legal experts all day about whether a double-insertion was an impeachable offense.

(And I'm completely with you on China as a threat.)

Hey now, don't discount us ignorant people... if it weren't for folks like us, you smart people would have no comparisons to make.

As for the original post... AMEN, Brother!!!!  GW is a chip off the old block... Ronald Reagan... oops, I guess I shouldn't have let that slip....

Say by the way, if we're in the mood to bitch at Republicans... I still think Dick cheney should announce to the country when its Republican season this year coming... I want to bag a few of them myself.  I wonder if females count more than males do, just like ducks?

Jeb Bush for President?  the only that's gonna happen is if he rides GW's and Daddy's coat tails... (and I live in Florida...)

I heard some youngster talkin smack about Democrats, well, he can say what he wants, but unlike the republican ex-presidents, the democratic one's keep on workin until they die... Gerald Ford being a prime example... or Jimmy Carter still goin strong...and its not because they need the money.

Oh, and getting back to Udderly's comments... Before you going judging people on their lack of intelligence when an opinion is asked, I would suggest a rephrasing of the terminology "no education, no experience..."  Just because I'm not in the political arena does NOT mean I have no education, nor does it mean I do not deal with political issues on a daily basis.  The politics I deal with are more of a day to day business routine, but its still political.

1. I wasn't referring to you
2. The sentence is not no education - period, it is no education/experience in the area of science, yet like to pontificate on it.

By your signature, perhaps you own a restaurant?  If so, how would you like it if I, with no experience or training in the restaurant business, got up here and told all kinds of BS about it, assaulted the character of people in the business, was completely in the wrong about that and about the operational aspects, the strategic and personnel aspects, didn't know a damned thing, and yet just kept going on and on like some ignorant blowhard... then when you try to straighten me out - I just contradict and insult you and keep going... ad infinitum.  I don't consider people like that to have "valid opinions".  I consider them insufferable idiots.

Crappy,

Yeah, I probably exaggerated the notion that they aren't a military threat; what I meant is that there is no ideological reason for them to be a threat, and I can see no reason for any potential confrontation. They're not gonna bother Taiwan, and even if we nuked Pyongyang North Korea the Chinese would probably thank us.

quote:

As for their economy, do you really believe they are going to let us in?  Can you point to an example?

Well, I doubt they'll be completely wide open to any industry that wants to set up shop, but Walmart is there and the little retailers are no happier about it than their counterparts are in small town America:

http://www.economist.com/business/displaystory.cfm?story_id=7246087

I'm sure if I looked around I could find plenty of other examples; it is hard to imagine that they can develop their economy without inviting in financial services firms because they simply have no expertise with securities and all that..

I think too that in the province just outside Hong Kong they also welcome in foreign industrial development; perhaps they insist on joint ventures, I really don't recall. But is seems a reasonable approach as they open up more and more, and I'm actually impressed with the way these old commies are changing  . . . at their own pace.

I don't think Japan is the right example to compare with China because Japan was an industrial power before WW II; they rebuilt their industrial base and kicked ass. But China has been mostly an agrarian economy -- they don't have much (infrastructure, management expertise, etc.) and need everything and simply can't do it all for themselves. They can build factories to make their own stuff, but the equipment in the factories has got to come from somewhere, and so the G7 type industrial powers get to compete for their share of the pie.

Bush is being a weak president now because he's now trying to please more people instead of doing what needs to be done. Forget the media Bush. They will never like you. Fuck the UN. They will never understand that the best negotiation with a Terrorist that's trying to create Jyhad is with the use of a 45. If terrorist want to hide in a Holy Temple and shoot at us, then we need to bomb the temple.

Couldn't agree w/ you more.  But that presupposes that our gov't regulations (and outrageous prices stimulating US consumers) will actually make that shift.  What I don't hear much of is the 'overhead' in petroleum & other resources ... to manufacture E85 from corn (stupid, stupid, stupid!) ... or even the catalysts & precious metals needed for hydrogen technology &/or simple hybrid battery cars.  We forget that aluminum is cheap ONLY because electricity is cheap to produce it.  But if the new technology is going to require lots of petroleum resources to create the new stuff ... then the new technology gains aren't worth a warm bucket of spit.

Luckily ... by the time all of this is irreparably into the fan ... I'll be dead ... and I have been wise enough not to leave any progeny to be impoverished by the current regime's idiocy.  I'm sure the current politicians (on both sides) will go to their graves laughing (about the next generation) "Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke."

As e.e. cummings said: "A politician is an arse upon which everybody has sat except a man."  All of our politicians (Republicans AND Democrats) are bought, paid for, and beholden to the corporations ... and future generations in the US are fucked.

But, hey ... I might be wrong ... and maybe everything will be fine & the gov't will give us all free H2 SUVs next year.  Ya think?

The earnest debate over global warming ended about a year ago. More studies were done and analyzed, and the skeptics became convinced. Most of the remaining naysayers are Bushites mouthing the partyline. In the world of political propaganda, you can always find a "scientist" willing to say just about anything to further an agenda. If these "scientists" get enough exposure, the appearance of a "debate" is created.

As a minor clarification, Al Gore agrees with the majority of the scientific community, not the other way around. They are, alas, the ones doing the work here -- he is publicizing their efforts (for which I say good job and thanks!)

As a second minor clarification, they ridicule him. Almost everybody with a sense of humor does. It's fun -- try it sometime.
