spankmepink11 -> Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/23/2006 8:52:08 AM)

There have been many threads regarding pain, and peoples relationship with it.
Once i discovered that there were many types of pain that i could enjoy and gain pleasure from,, i found  i began to wonder  about  the possibility of enjoying other types of pain as well.  I'm not referring to self induced pain, but more of the "incidental" type.
I've experimented with the concept now and then just out of curiousity, but just the other day i felt like i had reached an exciting breakthrough in this area.
I was doing some work on my pool, there is a large flowering bush next to it...and i've been having to skim the surface to remove the tiny seemingly endless buds. I was  going back and forth skimming...when my shin came into contact with one of the aluminum struts (it's a large above ground pool). Needless to say...a sharp rap to the shins is not what most would consider pleasureable and at that point neither did i. I'm not sure if it was the unlevel ground...but each time i passed over a particular strut i seemed to knock that exact same spot on my shin.  By the time i was finished, i had been concentrating so hard  on letting that pain flow through me, that i was actually able to enjoy it...and was almost aroused by it. That includes the accompanying hot painful throb.

I suppose what i'm asking is:
Can incidental pain be channeled  into pleasure?
And are there others who are successful at it?
OR....Am i just a hopelessly weird type of masochist?

The answer to any question that begins "Does anyone else...?" is always yes.

Some masochists can convert nearly all forms of pain into pleasure.  It's rare, but not unknown.  It's also worthwhile to point out that you were still in control of the pain you received and knew after the first hit what to expect.

Yes, I have dealt with some kinds of pain a little better, since having some pleasurable and erotic associations to go with it. Then again, I now have a lot of pain connections to go with my pleasure, so I'm not sure if I'm coming out ahead or not.

and I still think you are a hopelessly weird type of masochist.

LA....by "controlling the pain" do you mean i was choosing how to process it?.
I guess i did know what to expect once my shin hit that strut...but each time i can honestly say i was surprised to have done it AGAIN!!!...and again...and again..My legs were used to stepping over the struts...but just that one...seemed to jump up and  bite me every time.

I enjoy the pain of physical exertion. I enjoy sore muscles and while I will complain about it at times, I still enjoy it on a level.

I have felt completely beat up after a long hike, and enjoyed that feeling of laying down and letting my back relax and feeling the pain of doing so. I didn't associate these feelings with masochism until I started playing with pain.

spankmepink11 -> RE: Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/23/2006 9:44:26 AM)

Thanks for that line of thinking Julia, i completely overlooked that factor. My work more often than not leaves me with sore muscles, etc....and i do enjoy it.  Although in this particular aspect i most  enjoy the knowledge of a job well done...with the  sore muscles as proof.  (or is that reward?...hmm...the plot thickens)

agirl -> RE: Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/23/2006 10:06:07 AM)

I think maybe you ought to try it a few more times, spankme, to see whether it happens each time, or if it was a *one-off*.....lol.

I know damn well that I can't *make* anything that's painful into a pleasurable experience. If it's hurting, it's not nice. If it's nice then it isn't painful in *real terms*.

Sounds like the perfect place for some adventurous activities. [:D]

There are a couple of absolute masochists on here who would enjoy that type pain, I think. It would be interesting to know what they think. In your case, I would guess that it is an association, memory device recalling some fun play. Interesting question in any case.

To the first and second, yes. Ever since I have delved into masochism my body has been trying its best to generalize types of pain, irregardless of what it is. My body has been trying to channel everything into pleasure. I have a scar on my wrist that was a one inch stab wound. I enjoyed the experience. I'm also finding in exercise, I am able to push myself further, faster than I did in the past, although when I first started to realize this, I ended up having to fight floating away, because I enjoyed the burn of the workout. The only thing I have yet to be able to find pleasureable is a headache. No, you are not alone.

No you're not weird and the key factor here is the mental exercises you employed while concentrating. Consider when you are receiving painful blows how the mind shifts and interprets the activities as something pleasurable. I have experienced the reverse and had a pleasurable act evaporate simply because I have a sexual restriction. At the moment the arousal seemed pointless because his will and instructions far exceeded my desire for release. Needless to say there was none and the experience took a different turn. I immediately became aware of the pain and experienced an emotional release instead.

Channeling sensations is a common occurrence. You may wish to do additional reading on Tantra. It could add another element of pleasure to your relations.

Thank you  porcelaine, that was another very interesting response. I've been looking at websites about redirecting painthrough concentration , but only have the most vague knowledge of Tantra. I  will delve a bit deeper into it now.  I'm all for adding "elements of pleasure to my relations"

I just had my first charliehorse in months. And to be honest, it didn't really bother me this time, although I am more used to screaming in bed, clutching the calf muscle as it spasms.

popeye1250 -> RE: Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/25/2006 10:48:25 AM)

Slipstream, what the hell causes Charlie Horses anyway?

Slipstreme -> RE: Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/25/2006 10:56:17 AM)

I dont know. I just know there was a period in time where I was getting them 2-3 times a month, once 3 in a row, 1 each night. I think it is poor nutrition, either not enough potassium or not enough vitamin E (from what I've heard). Could also be maybe laying in one spot all night, maybe a bad matress. Once I'm on my back or stomach when I go to sleep, I don't move.

Might also be over-exercising them. Last night I did a long  lower body exercise session. (I use my masochism to my advantage, pushing it till muscular exhaustion). Although I have heard this is not the case, and there are even stretches you can do to loosen a charliehorse and get the pain to go away. You just have to deal with the added pain of the stretch on a cramped muscle, which would turn some people off of doing them. What I don't get is with every possible way to cramp yourself. charliehorses seem to be the most painful.

Yes, though not all forms of pain may be. There are levels and variations of pain that will taste like Hell, no matter your rerouting skills. I have thus far met a few self-described masochists who were able to channel incidental pain, though usually context is important for many.

spankmepink11 -> RE: Successful redirection?....or just plain weird? (8/25/2006 7:06:33 PM)

Slipstream,
Thats true about the charlie horses, i usually only get them if i am stretching a muscle for an extended period.  (mostly in the calves or thighs) .  I've massaged and stretched them out...and really enjoyed the feeling of the muscle loosening up.  I've read of some pro athletes who drink pickle juice before games to avoid charlie horses and muscle cramps.
