That's cute. Im going to have to get some of those quills, for my slave and do something similar. I wonder if I can weave a fur pattern with enough of them. I've been quite taken with the idea of doing a temporary fox on her back some non-traditional way.

Keaira,
here we are talking about medical staples. i've not felt them yet but i have seen them used to decorate with flowers, feathers or whatever. Or just for fun

All the better for me then. The longer I take to finish and photograph the design, the longer she will have to deal with quills in her body, which is something I know she would not be fond of. It's actually kindof sad really. I've become more masochistic than my slave, and her masochism is done mostly for my benefit also as a sadist. It would probably be quite a mindfuck scene for her.

PS. as far as medical staples vs. staples It would be unwise to use run of the mill staples because of how they are shaped when they clamp down. Medical staples when they come out look like little "M"s. The remover clamps the straight bar down into a v, which in turn causes the sides to rise up almost vertically. The tips seem to curl into place when put in and removing them, they curl back out with the legs straight, so they don't cause extra damage. They are also pointed with extremely sharp ends, to slice into flesh efficiently, and come sterilized.

i almost forgot to mention You'll want to do an allergy test on both of ya before You start doing big scenes like You are talking about doing. The reason to test both is because even if ya don't plan on sticking Yourself chances are it WILL happen. Also as i mentioned before i'd recomend cleaning them.

I would probably end up sticking myself for the purpose of sticking myself lol. BTW, out of curiousity, how do you check yourself for allergies to porcupines? I've heard of doing spot tests with irritants, by putting it on a small spot of skin first, but would this work with something solid like a quill? Of course, I would clean them first though.

Also, how do you sterilize quills? You mentioned alcohol, however, as I have been looking into tattooing and piercing, there seems to be a lot more to sterilizing equipment than alcohol. So I'm beginning to wonder if alcohol would cut it for cleaning them, and I know that if put through autoclaving (process used to sterilize needles), they would probably get screwed up in the autoclave. The place I am looking at apprencing with does a chemical bath, an ultrasound and then autoclaving their equipment before they consider it sterile.

lol i kinda thought You might do it just for the pleasure of doing it
to test put 1 to 3 quills in the arm wand watch it for 20 min or so. If the area starts getting itchy or red remove and rub down with alcohol. might not be a bad idea to have some benidryl cream handy.
The risk of allergic reaction is acctually not common, my former and i have tested close to 100 people with no adverse reactions but better safe than sorry .

When i cleaned my quills i just soaked them in alcohol which was what i was taught. You are removing the oil not sterilizing them. It was recomended that they be soaked for 2 hours but i did mine for 8. Then i spread them out on a cookie sheet lined then covered with paper towels to air dry

Ah.

One thing I thought about, that would be neat after the scene is finished, is that instead of throwing them out, as would happen with needles or staples, they can be used for doing some native american quill work patterns. So bascially they would become art supplies afterwards.

How does one sterilize a quill, anyway?  I've learned to be quite a stickler for 'clean' when breaking skin.  I insist on both cleaning the skin AND the tools before such play.

Maybe that's just me.

There used to be an awesome group called Induction here in Ohio that did performances at fetish balls. They would do suspensions (which YES to the OP, they do go into muscle tissue), tribal piercings with feathers like wings, corset lacing piercings, cutting, hook pulls, etc.

The shows were really beautiful. I enjoy getting piercings, so I might like play piercings, but suspensions would not be for me. I heard they are more intense than childbirth and that the endorphins can last for days (from talking to several people who have done this).

You can see pictures from the show at this website:

And just for fun (this is me in the show):

Everywhere I look for information on suspension (suspension.org, ascensionsuspension.com, rites of passage, BMEzine, YouTube videos of suspension) the information seems to suggest otherwise. Yes, they are deep piercings, going through more skin than most piercings, and I would assume the entirety of the dermis, but they do not encounter muscle. For one, the skin lifts away from the body, hence the pulled look of skin when suspended. Unless there is another form of suspension out there I am unaware of. Skin is actually a lot thicker than most people think it is. (Pinch your arm a bit and pull. You can feel it sort of lift off you, because it is. Everything in that pinch is skin, maybe with a bunch of blood vessels and connective tissues, but it is still skin and dermis.) The piercings are inserted through a bit of flesh the piercer pinches up. In fact, Ascension massages the area to be pierced first, so that they can have enough skin to pinch up. Skin (in the back), from what BME's FAQ says can hold about 250lbs before ripping. Of course, put an 140lb guy moving around rapidly on hooks and each hook is supporting more dynamic weight than just a fraction of his weight. Most of the rip outs were probably due to said person trying to catch air while hanging, which is common in suspension shows. This is probably why 1 point (1 hook) suspensions are possible without hooks ripping out. Yes, I have become obsessed with suspension.

Another fact that skin does indeed lift off muscle. Think about a skinned animal, once you slice in and separate the membranous connective tissue in points, it lifts off rather easily. Usually there is a layer of fat underneath the actual skin layer, which is probably also true of human skin.

I have heard of some guy trying to do a suspension where he hooked his ribs, and busted his lungs. However this information came from someone I know often makes tall tales.

BME on hook suspension.

quote:

Are hooks pierced though muscle?
NO! Skin is very resilient, holds a lot of weight and heals very quickly. Muscle on the other hand is a very fragile tissue that tears easily and does not always heal correctly. In addition, if hooks tear out, damage to skin is easy to heal and not particularly dangerous, whereas healing torn muscle is much more significant.

You really can't sterilize them. The best you can do is clean them. i'd rather there was a way also but i can tell you that with proper care before and after i've not seen any infections with them. All we've done is preb the skin with alcohol before and then wipe down with it again afterwards.

We had a docor come speak to us at our last munch though and He said alcohol doesn't get very far benieth the skin on like lashes from a whip and i'm thinking punctures would make it moreso. For that He recomended Silvidine(sp) which is a perscription cream. Someone asked about colloidal silver and He said it was the same thing and can be gotten without a script. i'm going to find it for my toybag

I'm with you in understanding that alcohol merely cleans and does not sanitize equipment.  I buy, online, hospital grade germicidal disinfectants; both as sprays and wipes.  I'm always surprised to see people getting needles by someone who has not only NOT prepped the skin, but is also NOT wearing gloves...

LOL   I sound prissy, huh?  I'm no clean freak; just cautious.
