impishlilhellcat -> My own little rant :D (8/23/2006 1:22:26 PM)

Okay so honestly sometimes I feel like I am back in high school here. I know that at some point I've been responsible for doing this too, but for me I can say it was all in fun and jest. I know that we all have our e-crushes or whatever but it seems like those popularity threads keep on coming up over and over again. The beautiful thing is people is that anyone can be anything they want to be on the internet and until you've actually met that person or spent major time with them ya just don't know. I come for the forums to pick up info on the things that I know nothing about or want to try or to generally just waste time when I need to destress or take a break from school and work. However sometimes it appears to me that well if you don't agree with so and so and if so and so doesn't find you hot well then let's all just ignore said person. I don't know that I would even call this a rant because sometimes I just sit back and watch and sometimes I find it funny and sometimes I find it annoying. I have never see so many people say grow up and then turn around and attack each other or see so many aww poor me I'm leaving the forums to hear people say oh we are gonna miss you so much and then turn around the next day and start posting a gabillion jillon times.

There all better... [:)]

As in real life there is ALOT of childish behaviour on the forums, especially in the Polls and Random Stupidity part. I believe that because we are not face to face we feel more free to act like idiots. It sort of goes along with the concept of, if we don't think we will be held responsible we will behave much worse. aka, if there is no fear of hell and hope of heaven...etc etc etc......
Mostly I just laugh, roll my eyes and think "welllllllllll there's another person I don't have to worry about visiting on my precious vacation time!" It is the rare few souls I have come to treasure that keep me coming back, reading, and thinking "Wow, I sure hope I get to meet this person some day!"

I think the behavior you mention is typical of online forums/chat.  Some people have only an internet community  to be popular in.  Perhaps it lifts the self-esteem of some to be one of the 'popular crowd'.   I don't agree with the crush threads, as it does make some feel bad, and makes others think 'why bother.... no one is reading what I write anyway', but, if some people want to be patted on the back by the same people over and over again, they probably need it.

If this is a Rant- GoodOne!

I agree with you.

BuxomGoddess714 -> RE: My own little rant :D (8/23/2006 4:42:58 PM)

Honey.....  some people only have a virtual world to be popular and/or successful in.  Truly question the validity of what happens in this little box.  The most wonderful people I have met in Real Time did not need to prove anything.  They just are Who they are.  I saw what They were when I went into their homes, met Their friends and families.  That all spoke for itself.  The boastful ones had nothing to back it up, and usually worse, were fronting for lack of popularity and success in the Real World.  I say pity them and don't let it bug ya.  This is the only place they can hide behind their computer and get away with their nonsence.  Better them then you.

Be blessed,
Goddess

After dealing with people while running an online game, this is how I see it.  People feel that they are freeer to be themselves over the net, because no-one is seeing them face to face.  This can bring both good sides of people out and bad sides of people out.  SOmetimes people feel freer to show a hidden sweetness or the hidden bitch.  I feel that for each person who says' Well I'm not a bitch in person" oh YES you are.  That online bitch or asshole comes from someplace within you. It's there, and it's freeing itself online.

Fourms are a place for people to chat, act out or to be a silent watcher, they have always had up and downs, bitches and sweethearts, much like highschool, or any office job work enviroment.  Gotta take the good with the bad.

bandit25 -> RE: My own little rant :D (8/24/2006 3:36:11 AM)

I've seen this before...people mentioning that they feel invisible because no one comments on their posts.  Well, I always kinda think..."what do you expect?"  I'm not flaming here...this happens to me all the time.  It seems to me that most people post to find a confirmation of what they already think.  What I mean is...someone asks a question.  Sure, sometimes that person is sincere and really wants an answer, but, I think most of the time, the person simply wants to hear someone else say "yeah, that's what I think too."  And when other people have a different opinion, they either ignore it or take issue.

Spank, I've read a lot of your posts and I find them well thought out and very often I agree with you.  I've never told you that, but then I've never started a thread either.  I simply read the threads for amusement...sometimes for information, but not often.  I have my opinion on most things and no one (well, with the exception of my Dom) is going to change my mind...at least, no one on the net.
