"High Heels". What size is most comfortable to wear for you, 2", 3", 4"?
At what height do they become uncomfortable for you?
What would you consider "everyday" or officewear?
I've seen some in catologues that have 6-8 inch heels, more like "fetish" shoes not for everyday.

subinside -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 4:48:49 PM)

i am comfortable in any of the first mentioned heights.  As to what height they become uncomfy at depends on the style of the shoe.. i.e. strappy, padded in the sole.  I've had some 3 inch heels i couldn't wear for more than 20 minutes without wanting to scream, and some 5 inch ones where it felt like i was walking on a cloud 5 hours into the ball.

For work i usually go with 2 - 4 inches, again depending on the shoe, and the style i'm wearing.

and yes.. the 6 - 8 inch ones would most likely be killers and not for everyday.. well.. in my opinion. YMMV

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 4:49:16 PM)

Most of my heels are 4", I can't wear much higher because of the size of my foot. For every day... well, one pair of my riding boots is a 3" heel and the other is a 2" heel.

I can wear anything up to 5 inches in a comfortable shoe.  Get the toes too pointy and I'm not going to be in them long at all.  However, I am most comfortable bare foot.  Even though I enjoy fetishwear and fun shoes and boots, when I play I am barefoot.

SusanofO -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 4:57:27 PM)

Most of the high heels I have are 3 to 4-1/2 inches. But, for everyday office wear, I like 1-2" heels.
I think heels become uncomfortable based on what height of heel a person is used to wearing, and the condition of their feet, and of course, the shoe itself. For me, they become uncomfortable for any length of time longer than about 2 hours (if I am standing), at about 4-1/2 to 5". Of course, things like gel insoles can help. Also, as someone mentioned below, platform high heels are available now, which are a bit easier on the feet (but personally, I am not fond of their look). I love flats, and only wear heels for special occasions, or when I want to feel sexy, or when I know someone else wants me to wear them.

Someone trying to wear 6" heels who isn't used to heels is going to have a hard time, and possibly hurt themselves doing that, I think. The 8" heels you refer to are (I think) called "ballet boots" and are (my impression) considered fetish wear only, and not for walking, by most people who buy them.

Ahh, ok, that clears up a lot of confusion on my part.
I'm not good with woman's sizes.
So the comfort level as to height up to a certain height would depend on the individual woman then?

swtsouthernsub -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:09:26 PM)

I'd wear  6" ones but only with evening 's out   they are very sexy and appealling to the human eye  but and after so long they start to hurt my back. since my heart surgery and nerve damage
if I must wear them 3"   would be uncomfortable but I'd wear them everyday if need be
I'm a country girl  so heels all together are uncomfortable to
me  but I do wear them as for  everyday I wear cute sandel's
or flip flops or slide on mules or sneakers but thats just this one lil country hick opinion

SusanofO -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:13:49 PM)

popeye: I think so, yes. But, I'd be hard pressed to name anyone who can honestly tell me they think wearing 5" heels or higher is comfortable for any length of time- unless it's something they do all the time, and are very, very used to doing.

Unless one is shopping at a fetish wear store, it can be hard to find higher than about a 4" high heel in a brick and mortar store, I think. Victoria's Secret high heels inventory only seems to go up to 4-1/2 inches, and most department stores in my area only sell shoes with heels up to about 3-1/2 inches high.

I can't wear highheels regardless of size, so none of them.

MistressAdira -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:23:00 PM)

I'm 5'11'' barefoot... and I love to wear heels!  Generally 2 - 3 1/2 inches for the day job, and for nights out a bit higher.  For fetish type events I'll go 5 to 6/12 inches.. but those have a platform so they're not so hard on the tootsies!

Cheers,

LeMis -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:28:24 PM)

I think it really depends on the shoe itself (in my opinion), some higher heels can be the most comfortable shoe depending on the manufacturer and some lower heels can be the mot painful (for the same reason).

I enjoy wearing heels, as long as they are comfy (for 2 reasons), 1. they make me feel sexy and   2. they make me taller!  [:D]

Usually for work I wear sandals or sneakers.

Slipstreme -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:31:16 PM)

The size of the woman's foot would have a direct bearing on the height that would be most comfortable.  With a shorter foot and a higher heel, the more perpendicular the rest of her foot would be... and the more weight would be shifted onto the balls of her feet and her toes.

I typically wear a size 6 1/2 in nearly any shoe.  My foot is 9 inches long from the back of my heel to the tip of my large toe.  The back 2 1/2 inches is heel which does not bend and stays horizontal to the floor in any shoe.  The front 3 inches is the ball and toes which should stay horizontal to the floor, as well.  That leaves 3 1/2 inches to angle and cover any height from the heel.

Lo and behold, 3 1/2 inch heels are most comfortable for me.  I can and do manage to wear up to an inch and a half higher, but essentially what is happening is that the ball of my foot is being angled and the weight is being shifted further forward towards my toes.

No offense to the ballerinas in the house, but toes were not meant to carry the weight of the human body for any length of time.  Of course, that doesn't mean I don't love them and wear them every chance I get... I do have 15 pairs of them, after all.  [;)]

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:35:53 PM)

Comfort level depends on a lot of different things.  One is how often a woman wears heels.  You have to look at the chunkiness of the heel.  The closer it is to a stiletto, the less support there is.  The height is an obvious one.  In general, the higher the heel, the more pressure there is on the ball of the foot.  The shoe size is important.  When wearing stilettos, it's important to buy a shoe that's a full size larger than one's regular shoes.  That will make them a lot more comfortable!  And then there's the shoe construction itself, the arch support, the padding, and how that works with the individual woman's foot.  Platform shoes are more comfortable because the whole foot is raised up, rather than putting more pressure in one small area.

For day wear, 3 to 4 inches is comfortable for me.  A higher shoe than that takes more attention when walking in it.

popeye1250 -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:43:27 PM)

Ah, ok, so the higher the heel the more weight shift and the more weight on the ball of the foot then?

I don't and won't wear heels of more than 1/2 inch. I think high heels are some of the most foolish forms of clothing in the world.

xGoddessx -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 5:56:17 PM)

I loooooove heels, I don't care the height.  I have had my poor feet screaming for relief, but I still wear the things.  I usually have to have the ball of my foot massaged after I have the worst ones on though.

Yes, but there's also a physical limit not necessarily related to weight... for me, the greater the height of the heel over 3 1/2 inches, more of the ball of my foot leaves the floor, and the more I'm walking on my toes.  If I tried to wear a pair of heels that were 6 1/2 inches high, I would be walking on my tip-toes.

*laughs*  It's all physics and mathematics, and unfortunately that isn't my forte; I'm not sure how to explain in writing any better.  If you've ever done any construction work, it's along the same lines as trying to calculate the rise and run of a staircase.

popeye1250 -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 6:00:43 PM)

Tammyjo! High heels are *SEXY*!!!
I'd only have a sub wearing them around the house as she was attending to her duties in her maid's uniform or in a scene or out to dinner at a fancy restaurant or a live show.
Not all the time of course!
You can't wear them to the beach or anything like that.
The pool maybe![;)]

xhoneyx -> RE: Question for the Ladies. (8/24/2006 6:03:25 PM)

hehehe..i LOVE high heels..though i've never worn anything higher than 4-5 inches..
i usually dont think about high how the shoes are when i buy them..i think about whether i like the style..and whether the shoe itself is comfortable..it's not always dependent on the height of the heel to determine the comfort of the shoe..*^_^*

i just like them..in all colors, shapes, heights..[:)]
