Flaming and mean attitudes - 1/1/2005 11:38:29 AM

After spending a few hours New Year's day (happy, happy to you all!), I am a bit surprised at the level of flaming and generally mean responses to some of the posts here. Out of 10 posts, over half had 'people' flaming the originator of the post or one of the respondents and IMHO, nothing that was said warranted these negative and hurtful reponses.

I am always amazed at the people who claim to be part of a lifestyle which at its core, promotes respect for one's diverse interests and opinions. I know better than to expect everyone to "play nice" in here but when more than 50% of a random selection has such vitriolic posts, it makes me wonder whether we know what a person thinks not when they tells us what they think, but by their actions.

Sorry for the rant, I won't assume the worse and expect negative responses to this post. Just would like to start the new year off on a more positive note. Hope the best you experienced in 2004 is the worst you will have in 2005.

Your first mistake is assuming that just because someone can use a flogger, or someone enjoys being flogged, that that automatically makes them more respectful and open minded. In my experience it doesn't.
And secondly, I don't see all this meanness and flaming that you see. I see for the most part, people with strong opinions having fun exchanging them. And if you can't take getting your feathers ruffled a bit then don't come to the message boards.
I enjoy that so many post here with no regard for being politically correct and are willing to get as well as they give. That is what makes it interesting. And some people need to quit taking themselves so seriously. This is a great place for that.

This post annoys me, this is almost as bad as the sub who was "disturbed" at being on a Dom's favorite's list.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Someone was mean to me, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It's a big bad world out there, grow up, or go hide under a damn rock!

Oh, and Happy FN New Year!

I personally don't see the flames either. Although it is all how you read a post as well. I do know I indeed interpet post's in a different way than other's do. People have told me they were frustrated off board about a post. Where I went back and saw nothing to be frustrated about.

I know I have a certain way of talking and getting to the point. A bit abrupt. However, that is me. Those who befriend me understand this and know this. Nobody on collarme has ever angered me enough yet for me to truly get frustrated. Although many of them think they have.
When I come here and chat. Ask questions or answer them to the best of my ability I expect other's to disagree with me. That is the reason why we are here. That is how we evolve.
If you do not want opinions then perhaps you should not ask for them?
If you lay your entire life on the line for complete strangers to read. Expect it to be analysed. Not always the way you wish.

Anyway, my take on the situation.
Welcome to the boards!

*runs and ducks for cover*

Happy New year to ya!

No, I am not mistaking one's interest for kinky sex with being part of a lifestyle. I am referrring to those who talk the talk of being a lifestyle that embraces openess and diversity and then "shuts down" anyone who openly starts a discussion or has a different point of view.

I was also not referring to strong opinions or exchanging them. I was trying to point out those "members" that insult and put down someone for speaking aloud. I too enjoy a good debate, even a good arguement, but one where personal insults and citicisms are not so prevalent.

I thought you were talking about me until that last part. I have no idea who 'Stephanie' is.

Thanks for your take. I know it is difficult sometimes to read a post and get someone's sense of humor and/or interpret what they are saying. I am not talking about that but about blatant flaming that has only one interpretation. I would be glad to send you a few examples but we both have better things to do with our time!

i don't see how a rant will accomplish that.

We DO? Then why did she even start this thread? Silly, if you ask me ... shrugs

Anyway .......
i can't say as i agree, can't say as i don't. Perhaps if you could point out specifically where it is you have observed such behaviors? Post the thread links? It's a bit difficult for me to offer an opinion or comment without understanding the source of your rant.

i agree with Mr. Smarty Pants ... i have spent a great deal of time (more than i will EVER admit ) chatting, as well as being a member of quite a few message boards across the internet and the reason i continue to participate at this one is because at least i know most here are REAL.

i for one appreciate the fact that many here post their true opinions without having to feel they need to hold back simply because others may find fault with them for doing so. i don't always agree with every comment or opinion i read, but i always have respect for those who speak their minds rather than sugar coat their words for fear of falling too low on the 'popularity scales' all too commonly presented by those who frequent chats and forums.

i'd rather spend time posting with others with whom i may disagree, than with those who are too busy kissing asses JUST so others WILL agree.

It basically is different people's interpretations. i agree with You to some extent. Sometimes the posts can be downright brutal. Sometimes people think they can draw attention to themselves by being mean spirited. At least by reading them You know what to expect when You make a post though.

So let me get this straight--it's OK to waste time complaining about unspecified alleged flames, but we have better things to do than get to real examples?

That makes exactly no sense.

The last time I checked, this is an open forum, open for all to post their ideas, and thoughts.

If you are upset by the comments, use your word processing program, and type to yourself.

But please, stop whining!
