Excuse me but that was to me. You think You are cute with basic obnoxious and rude comments? What purpose does it serve? There isn't one thing constructive in what You had to say. Guess diplomacy isn't something You mastered. Yes people can be honest but there is no reason to be downright rude and i can post my comments as freely as You can Yours.

Status: offline 		I think you find that a lot of people who are incapable of intelligent discussion on a topic resort to personal attacks as an outlet for the frustration they feel. It takes character to accept that someone has done a better job of representing their viewpoint than you have and, unfortunately character is not something that everyone has in abundance. Others are rude and obnoxious because they feel inferior in general and have a deep-seated need to tear down others' self-esteem. I think one must weigh what one finds on boards such as these and understand that not everyone is going to have something of value to add to the conversation. After a little time one will come to recognize those who are incapable of civil discourse.

Status: offline 		Very well said timothy. As I said in my post, for the MOST part, people refrain from insults and flames. I guess we can see that that isn't always the case. But as you said, over time you learn who contributes something worthwhile and who doesn't.

I responded to ehlovindom in Jest, I thought it pretty obvious.
The comedy started and I totally lost control.
He said he spent a "few hrs" reading 10 posts, that the threads were overly negative and flamming.

I felt after reading for a few hrs. he also must have run into many, many possitive responces to posts and a lot of humor, I felt he focused on the negative.
Most post will have a mixture and you take what you need and discard the rest.

Some of us get sooooo tired of reading the same posts over and over we suffer brain dysfunction and start thinking funny and in our haze we type jokes and jests. (Well maybe I should be speaking for myself here).
Possitives, Negatives, Compassion, Support, Humor are a part of every community and all can be benificial. I wish that ehlovindom wouldn't have focused so much on the negative, without having been here that long.

There is soooooooo much wisedom, yes and wise-cracks here, take in what works for ya!

Status: offline 		Personally, I think that posts like the one starting this thread are far more annoying than occasional flames. It starts with vague allegations of "generally mean responses" which apparently only the OP sees. Then he continues by adopting the attitude of holier-than-thou defender of the principles of this lifestyle which, as Estring tactfully pointed out, is a bogus idea. I also find it both ironic and hypocritical to make a post about flaming which in essence is nothing but a flame itself, and so it becomes completely ridiculous when he says "Just would like to start the new year off on a more positive note." after having done exactly the opposite. Of course I'm flaming and lecturing too, but at least I'm aware I'm doing it. So, I won't apologize for the rant or be suckered into being polite because he surrounds a broad swipe at everyone with some seemingly pleasant sentiments.


Oh, and just in case you are still looking for something to give you a warm fuzzy feeling -- Happy New Year to you too. <insert Bronx cheer here>

Thanks for your response sterlinsweet and I appreciate the humor. Just so you are aware, I have spent a lot of time on another website in similar forums and came across only the occasional insult and flame whereas here, they were so prevalent. Even in this thread, it is clear, at least to me, that some people cross the line. of course that is my opinion and I am not referring to you at all. Your post is very well written and offers a well thought out opinion and I don't take anything you say to me (about me) personally as it is clear you are writing from a positive perspective. I wish I had found more positive responses. As I said before, I didn't find one or two negative posts, I found dozens. And once again, the posts weren't a difference of opinion, they were outright insulting and unnecessarily so. I will keep looking for the wisdom as I know it is hard to find sometimes. Thanks for your response

Thanks Tmothy and well said. Again, I don't mind differing opinions and so many others are better able than myself to express their thoughts and offer some witty remarks. My problem is the insults and personal attacks on people. Of course, I will just have to ignore them.

Rather than taking his post as an attack, I saw it as using sarcasm to illustrate a point.. showing that people have different levels of sensitivity and tolerance for plain spoken over sugar coated. It's all in your point of view....

I personally am very tired of the politically correct ways of speech. My last straw was people calling terrorists "insurgents." As long as someone is not making a pointed prolonged personal attack or deriding people for having opinions, I'm all for everyone saying what they would like. (I have a couple of times asked someone to tone down what I felt were personal attacks.) We are not here to agree with everyone. Nor are we all here to post in the same style. You get more of a sense of personality with this way of posting. These people are much more "real" to me than they would be if they all used stilted formal language to express themselves. They are human. I'm pleased with the overall maturity of this board. I've yet to see it disolve into name calling and backbiting on a general scale.

I'd agree that there are a few members here that well, I could do without, thus why they are blocked. Status: offline 		One of my pet peeves is people who insult someone or someone's idea or question and then turn around and say either "I am blunt" or "I like to speak my mind" or even worse, "I was only joking." They then from there typically twist it around and say the person on the receiving end cannot handle someone speaking their mind, or is too sensitive, or should just grow up or some similar added insult to injury, with the implication that there is something wrong with being offended if someone says something offensive. Speaking your mind means expressing an opinion and it is very possible to do that without insulting the other person. There is nothing wrong with stating, I disagree with your opinion and this is what I think. It is completely different than stating, Why would you say something so stupid? (And I'm paraphrasing here.)

A discussion is people expressing varying views and opinions and ideas. They may agree or disagree. It isn't necessarily what you say but the way you say it that then turns it from discussion to adolescent name calling and unintelligent responses.

From my own humble perspective, I have seen much of both on this site in the several months I have been reading, and subsequently participating, in the forums on this site. I tend to skip over the obvious slams when I read them and if I find a particular question is one I have read before and don't care to read -- I simply use my mouse and with one click I am back to reading another post. If I do happen to spend my time reading through some of the responses that I have personally felt to be more than a bit intolerent or harsh, I am only reminded of the saying, "There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers." Bearing in mind that I am the first to admit that I have been guilty of answering from emotion and the quick thought without thinking myself (resulting in the stupid answer).........I then move on and spend more time reading the constructive answers and intelligent posts that I do so enjoy reading on these forums.
