When i was searching i automatically bypassed any Dom whose name began or contained the words Lord or Master in it, it just smacked of too much arrogance to me.

Note; no offense LAM, you are probably one of the few i've seen to pull that one off successfully.

Ok.. so playing the devils advocate here...

Its not ok for Doms to use Sir or Master as part of their names.. why does no one get bothered when you see sub or slave as part of a name? We dont require proof or give eyerolls to those bottoms who choose to identify themselves as such in their handles even though there are sooo many out there who have just as little or non existant experience as the Tops who do the same.

Anyone want to touch on this one?

That is an interesting question and not sure why it's so.

Actually since i have been searching out possible male subs (for Mistress) i have tried to avoid those whose nics contain certain words or phrases as well. For example shiteatingslave is someone i would pass by without hesitation.

Mistress wrote an extremely apropo reply to a similiar question about nics in general, maybe i will ask her to repost it here.

A dear friend of mine, who had many years of experience in real-life BDSM, had a saying about screen names.  Her feeling was "If you gotta say it, you ain't it".  While defining everyone, or all, in any manner is rarely, if ever, correct, her experience had shown her that her saying was usually correct.  Obviously, she might have missed a prince or two because of her feeling, but she avoided kissing the hundreds of toads that bought a flogger and a $10 whip on ebay and named themselves MasterWhoever.

Kitty,

Who says that no one looks askance at the use of sub or slave in a name?  When I was looking for a partner, the addition of sub meant little to me and the addition of "slave" said nothing to me.  The distinction between the two words has become so blurred that it seems to me that few people even understand the concept of real world slavery, and even fewer would really live it.  When I see "slave" my first thought is "yeah right".  Show someone the real definition of slave and you will quickly find yourself covered in sheets of paper containing lists of limits.  By definition, slaves do not have limits.
If someone has a true orientation, it becomes apparent when one spends the time talking to them, meeting them, exploring them.  A name means nothing.

(smiling) See, people will answer good questions.

Kree I agree with you absolutely. It is terribly sad that definitions have become so blurred. There are real slaves out there and they all act and believe as I do <wink> (adding the obligatory "just kidding folks")..

However, again, there always seems to be a discussion regarding Tops who do this.. but never about bottoms who do it... at least not that I see anyways

EmpressLeo: I hope I am not insutling any Mistresses. I am completely serious (and probably predjudiced) when I say that: This never bugs me when women do it, just men (seriously). I try not to jump to conclusions when men do it, but sometimes I can't help it (depends on the entirety of their communication, as a whole, though).

Probably because I've run across a "Master" or two who had, in fact, been in "the life-style" about 2 weeks, and yet tried to portay themselves to me as an "experienced Master". In more than one case, their profiles even said they had "years of life-style experience" And it turns out is was total BS. This left me wondering exactly when they figured anyone would find this out (if ever), and if so, what they planned to do about it. It completely destroyed my view of them as a person, and ended our communication. Ironically, I would not have cared as much if they hadn't lied about it.

Since I usually e-mail male Dominants and Masters as far as e-mail communication (even though I am currently not seeking a relationship, I do e-mail some, as friends), it never bugs me when women nic their names with Mistress so-and-so. But - you might want to ask some male submissives (or females seeking Dommes) what they think.

- Susan

I think that screen names sometimes give me the most entertainment. I know that when I see a Master/MistressofAllsubmissivetoNoone (sample I just made up I don't think it really exists)  I see a swaggering blowhard that couldn't master their coffee maker.
As far as how I treat people based on their identity within the lifestyle, I think I hold anyone that calls themself dominant to a higher standard of behaviour to earn my respect. Not very many gain, and keep, it.  There are quite a few key words I avoid in the sub/slave category that I will not share because they are mostly based upon my own person interests not a negative to one that would use them.
Some people can get away with the dramatic and theatrical and others for some reason it just ends up being prepostorus. I think it all depends on their personality.

Maybe there should be a contest to create:

-The most ridiculous Dom name
-The most ridiculous sub name

For example: Masterofallclitori
notworthytolickyourdogspoop

I don't even like to be called sir, much less award myself a title.

Yes, I do find some names off-putting or even offensive.  First impressions do count.

A true Master would not need to call himself that.  And really should only be addressed by that title by their slave/s.

I also dislike it when a dominant calls himself a Master - to my mind they are 2 different things.  A Master is someone who owns property (slave/s), a Dominant is someone who uses a submissive.

And submissives who give themselves slave names.  Or say they are a slave, when they are a submissive.  I am sick of getting messages from "slaves" - but then read their message and profile and find they are submissives.

And my real pet hate?  Anyone who tags 69 on to their name........... sooooo lacks imagination. lol

I have an answer for this.

I go by "MzTlaz" for one reason.....to make it clear that I am a dominant.  It sure helps cut down the "on your knees bitch" mail.  I don't think men get as much of that kind of mail, male input please?   I typically sign any mail and prefer to be addressed as "Tlaz", I stop people from calling me "Mistress" because I'm no one's Mistress till I say so but accept "Ma'am" even though it makes me feel old as the hills.

By the way, SusanofO, why do you think it's only okay for women? Just curious.

It's one thing to simply use a title to show your disposition in your nick, it's yet another if your nick implies you are the Alpha and Omega of all things domly/subby.
