I accidentally deleted the rest of your quote.  Was this the justification for the bad guy or the good guy? [sm=lol.gif]

LMAO [:D].... the bad guy!

Quick piece of advice - before getting into Nietzsche, read a summary of his work.  I find his writings to be quite dry, despite his good ideas.  If you have no idea what to expect, you'll prolly give up halfway through chapter 1, like I first did.

Ah, thanks for the tip. Would a biography be a good bet?

I hadn't planned on it but, before I decide if I want to, does it involve a pooper scooper?

Sorry but I just could not resist[:D]

Interesting question. Is mutilating the genitals of males wrong? Yet in certain cultures, boys are subjected to genital multilation as soon as they are born.

Hello Lawrence. A good question! Some feel circumcision is wrong, a form of mutilation, which I don't agree with, but is that an example of what benji meant, a cultural conditioning?

M. Level-

Exactly- I am one of the victims of this barbaric practice, and frankly, I have been so culturally condition that I actually LIKE it, and consider it 'normal'.

But imagine trying to explain this crazy notion to someone from antoher culture.

Probably depends on which biography - I ended up finding a website about him with summaries and such, then went back to the book.

How dare you?????????  You need to be freed from this despicable practice!  By force, if necessary.

Actually, it happened to me too.  And somehow, this repression thing aint as bad as it seems.

Archer -> RE: Bottom of the Food Chain (8/28/2006 12:26:18 PM)

In most of those same tribes male circucission is also performed without clean instruments or anesthetic, when the boy is about 8-10 years old. Although some have natural drugs they combine in the ritual. Some places scarrify the face and body, some rites of passage require life threatening acts where they actually sometimes die. It's not just the women who get "mutilated genitals" but the term only gets used for them.

Granted some of the mutilations the girls get are extream and make circumscission look tame, but that's not every tribe or religion in Africa. You'll also note that women rarely get assigned the jobs where the job often results in death, men tend to be assigned the jobs where the risk of dieing on the job is higher. The mortality rate is higer, and lifespan shorter for men overall.

<<Edited to add:  I, personally, consider the question to be anything but intelligent, by the way, and I thought Level's comment to be quite on the level, if I may level with you on the level.

topcat...as I understand it female genital circumcision is designed to reduce sexual response. Not so the male equivelant. I take it you are aware that the  US is one of the main Western practitioners of male cutting. Nice little earner for the docs. I should bet. Believe it or not I am not anti cutting if it bestows any benefit. I definitely dont subscribe to the view that all cultures are equal tho' and some DO oppress women more than others.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Bottom of the Food Chain (8/28/2006 1:40:36 PM)

Seeks,

At the end of the day, the mutilation of male genitals is okay, but not for women.  In neither case does the child/baby have any say, both can cause problems later in life, both are cultural, etc etc etc....

Yours,

benji
