pahunkboy -> USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 9:30:55 AM)

http://cu.convio.net/gas06   ok people- here is a simple thing you can do.

i DONT drive an SUV- and i limit my errands.

still- there is a time and place for all discussion.    so- this looks like a "go", take 3 mins and fill it out.....

Thanks.

pahunkboy -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 9:33:31 AM)

hmm- another piece of shoddy legislation.  it says nothing about alternative fuels/teck!

*screams*

Dtesmoac -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 1:12:56 PM)

pahunkboy your gas is still very cheap, I just returned from UK and the cost there with the exchange rate is about $7 per US gallon. Easiest way to reduce your fuel bills is reduce your use, so walk further, plan your trips and don't feel hard done by. .

pahunkboy -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 1:19:29 PM)

-isnt much of UK,EU gas cost- the tax ???

well- now that you mention it- i CAN call my furnace man for a tune up.   every other year they say- but i have a dog - so every year is the way to go with me.

buy a tomato- the cost to trasport it is in the price....

one day these will be the good old days.  :-)

KatyLied -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 1:23:33 PM)

Gas has just dropped here by .05....gas up before the holiday!

MistressLorelei -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 1:35:10 PM)

I was excited the other day when I passed a gas station and prices dropped by 15 cents a gallon from the previous week.

The next day the hurricane was scheduled to arrive and IF you could find a station that actually had gas, you'd have been glad to pay a dollar a gallon more than the going rate to not have to wait in a 3 - 4  hour line (no exaggeration).

The cost of gas is ridiculous.... but, try not being allowed to have gas for a few weeks and see how worth the price it is... even if we are being taken advantage of.  Hopefully, gas for vehicles will become obsolete when we get a government to push for alternate fuel methods... so yes, I am complaining,

this was a leased electric car. owners were actually protesting it! GM put all of them in a crusher.  ppl were MAD.

WyrdRich -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 2:20:04 PM)

I think a lot of technology has been put on the shelf until we are willing to pay thru the nose for it.  Back in the early 90's, I expected nearly 40 mpg out of my little hatchback and got it.  A friend was getting almost 50 out of his Honda and drove it like a race car most of the time.  With the cheap gas (relatively) and the SUV craze, mileage seems to have dropped even on the small cars.

Subaru has been advertising that mileage on the new Outback can be as high as 28 mpg hwy...  Well, I get that easily from my 13 year old Legacy and I'm driving over mountains with the A/C running full blast.

Sneaky bastards.... maybe I should buy some stock.

I know.... It's pretty sad that people would want to destroy a bunch of cars that were environmentally sound (unlike the rest of vehicles).  There was a waiting list of people who wanted them.

I was mad when I heard it too.... but hardly surprised.

Dtesmoac -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 2:29:19 PM)

Saw an item a year ago about VW Golfs and the fact tht with all the additional safety devices etc and the increase in the contents of the vehicle whilst the power of the engine had advanced much of that had been offset by the additionl weight and to get better "speed" performance. If the priority of buyers changes from 0 to 60 speed to fuel economy then they will change the design criteria.

sub4hire -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/30/2006 3:26:42 PM)

Electric cars are slow, they really don't save much gas at all unless you are doing local activities.  Once you hit the freeway you just have to have a hybrid if you are going anywhere.  Then you're back into regular gas.
The electric vehicles just don't go far enough on electric alone.

I have a friend who has a natural gas car.  Runs excellent not too hard to come by either.  He had a tap put in at his house.  It takes all night long to fill up but well worth it when it costs around ten dollars for a tank full that will take him 300+ miles.
Gas stations are few and far in between though.  Not all city yards in California have tanks...which is odd within itself.

If you drive a diesel in California you're ok.  You can convert them pretty easily to run on oil or most anything.  Though unless you want a truck you cannot purchase one here.  There is a diesel fuel shortage so all diesel cars are outlawed in this state.
Of course unless you bring one in from another state...they must have 8000 miles on them before you can register them here.
California has some pretty wacked legislation.
I don't understand why we have no access to ethanol in this state when many other states do.
Or even the E85 fuel..at least I believe that is what it is called.
So many options and none available readily.

"-isnt much of UK,EU gas cost- the tax ??? "

..true, based on the polluter pays principle.......drive more, you put more crap in the atmosphere, pay for that at the point of consumption. Makes sense to me. The largest polluter on the planet has incredibly cheap fuel, now theres a surprise. Perhaps if Americans paid a pollution tax that fairly reflected the environmental load then there would be more support for Kyoto. As it is, many Americans are insulated from the consequences of their actions.

Sub4hire,

You consistently present the most erroneos information of any poster here and you have done it again.

Electric cars are slow,
Uh, no they are not, they can exceed the speed limit as quick as anything else.  Golf carts ARE slow but they weren't built for speed

quote:

they really don't save much gas at all unless you are doing local activities.
Uh, since they don't burn gas...they kinda by definition don't burn gas"

quote:

Electric cars are quite capable of freeway speeds and if you are commuting hundreds of miles, well get on a frigging train.

"not to hard to come by" and then "gas stations are few and far inbetween though"  Gee you can't even hold the same concept all the way through a paragraph.  Great, lets switch to another dissapearing and increasingly expensive fossil fuel.  Why is that a good idea again?

There is a diesel fuel shortage so all diesel cars are outlawed in this state.

Uh, NO.  They are controlled because of emmissions issues, not because of a diesel shortage!  Where do you get this stuff?

Only because we have some seriously stupid "experts"

I don't understand why we have no access to ethanol in this state when many other states do.

Thats because, despite and overabundance of seriously stupid experts there are some actually intelligent people who see what a clear scam ethanol is.  It takes MASSIVE amounts of oil to make the MASSIVE amounts of fertalizer needed to grow it and then MASSIVE amounts of even more oil to make all the pesticides to protect it.  It is a massive welfare project for rich Republican farmers.

Other than the above though you were like so totally right dude...

I would gladly pay that if it that 7 bucks included my medical care like it does for you.

Facts, you should try it sometime.  When you have done some actual research then you will know.
I actually do research before I make a purchase.

However, you chose your name wisely I must say that.  So, crappy has an issue with me?  Should that bother me on any level?  Because if it should please let me know so I know I should be alarmed.

SirKenin -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/31/2006 2:07:07 PM)

We are paying 88.5/liter here..  Yahoo!!  It is about time prices started coming down.  They have been dropping for over a week now.  Let us hope the trend continues.

CrappyDom -> RE: USA bitch here per GAS costs ! (8/31/2006 2:41:21 PM)

sub4hire,

okay, you are right, natural gas is "natural" and thus nature makes it every day, your logic has no flaws in it and you always respond with in-depth analysis full of insightful observations.

Facts, you should try it sometime.

Indeed.  Let's look at a couple of facts, shall we?

- Electric cars are slow

We covered this already in the 'electric cars' thread but you never replied to my rebuttal there.  The GM EV1 had a software limited top speed of 80 miles an hour.  The prototype EV1, unfettered by the software shackles, set an electric vehicle land speed record of 183 mph in 1994.  How fast does it need to go before it's no longer slow in your eyes?

- they really don't save much gas at all unless you are doing local activities

For 90% of the population, "local activities" is exactly what they do.  Depending on environmental conditions, driving style and terrain; the EV1 had a run radius between 50 and 90 miles before it required a charge.  These figures are based on power cell/capacitor/induction motor technology that is almost a decade old.  Imagine what today's technology could achieve if the large oil companies didn't have a vested interested in stunting the growth of electric car technology.

If you need to drive long distances, you're right, such a vehicle would not be the perfect solution for you.  But for a *huge* number of people, it would meet nearly all of their needs and cost them significantly less to maintain and operate than a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

It will soon be $10.00 a gallon here. The upside of that should be a movement for urban renewal and better public planning.
