Status: offline 		Steve touched the local community and those who visited Australia Zoo and either watched him live or met him.. From an Aussie view point he was a bloody good bloke and was so typical of the men who made this country, pushed limits and educated people..

We live in one of the more dangerous countries and Steve did his share to teach people how to treat our dangerous wild life (not found in strip clubs) with care. Caution and respect so they could live safely. he is going to be sorely missed as commented by civic leaders and normal average Aussies....

Latest reports I saw indicated that the "sting" is about 6" long and covered with barbs. the "sting" is also covered with a nasty toxin. from what I have heard, Steve was swiming where an unusuall amoungt of rays were present and one was spooked hitting Steve with the "Sting" in the chest penetrating the heart muscle. Death would have been fast. Stings by rays leave an excrutiating painfull wound which may require surgery and takes months to heal..

What has S&R got to do with Steve?
 
Ones crass entertainment (your favourite) - the others conservation and teaching using entertainment as a way to get it out there.
Two different things.
 
What have you done thats worthwhile to the environment lately that educated others?
oh - silly me, I forgot - you don't answer that which you cannot, do you.

It's not the first case of such an incidence...  it's not common, but death by stingrays do happen, and deaths have been previously caused by heart penetration..  Usually stingrays penetrate the lower limbs of a body, allowing time for treatment.

Regardless, it's a tragedy and I can't begin to imagine the pain felt by the wife and children he leaves behind.

He was filming a documentary, and it won't be long before the news media will be fighting over who can pay the most money to play the footage of his last moments.... how disgusting.

Steve Irwin ran a zoo, his was raised in an environment where what he did was second nature.  He was not looking to make a bunch of money by taming lions (or crocs).  Irwin did some wonderful things for wildlife and he risked his life many times to secure the well-being of wildlife and the environment.  The stingray incident has the potential to happen to most any SCUBA diver who encounters it but it very, very rarely does....  I wouldn't compare this incident with that of a lion tamer.  He protected and assisted wildlife, and allowed the audience to share in this.  He was not performing at a circus.

Nodding... indeed.  Thats a sad fact - I certainly will not be participating.  But appriciating the information, as always.

Finances can not buy a father for your children.  Being a parent and providing for your children is far more than providing an income.

Apparently the barb of the stingray pierced his heart, and there was really nothing they could do.  He was a great ambassador for wildlife conservation.  My family will miss him.

Status: offline 		Well, the way I see it was this.  The guy was a wingnut.  He took unnecessary chances, both with himself and his child.  You live by the sword, you die by the sword.  The thing is, he lived his life doing what he loved the most.  He died doing what he loved the most.  He lived his life to the fullest.  He was happy.  He made many people all around the world happy.  He educated the masses.  He made a difference, especially for wildlife preservation.  He became a household name.   How many of us can say the same thing?

Facts - He was cleared of the animal disturbances.  So thats just you scaremongering an old story.
His son wasn't in danger - but of course, I forgot *slaps forehead*... you don't watch tv - so you would not know that, you just prefere to use extremely old news (that was later altered with other evidence uncovered).

I personally think it is atrocious that anybody would spend his day, trying to discredit a person who he never knew, nor met - and a man who died a tragic death in a freak accident.  That about fucks all credibility you have with any sane - or insane person.  But at least your true colours have shown.
 
Oh... and the NYtimes is such an unbias media publication?
 
I don't have to back up something that doesn't need backing up for you - there were no court proceedings taken out, because there was no danger nor problems - just do the ground work yourself properly.
 
You are quite capable of finding unfounded rubbish to try and cause hate - maybe you need a slave to find the correct information?
 
The Australian Government removed any thoughts on the animal controversy, oh and Watch the article on his son yourself - I am sure you can google it just like you did with that when you went off for an hour just to find a little scrap of something you could poison someones name with - and its been all over the TV here in the UK... oh...sorrrrrreeee... you prefere to read someone elses viewpoint and make it your own, rather than use your own eyes and watch that horrid little box...

Status: offline 		I don't exactly seek out the info, it appears as an RSS feed to my browser's homepage. We can agree to disagree about this guy. I just don't think it's a big deal. I won't miss him. In truth I barely care. Then again, there have been no less than three threads about him in this forum today...so it's topical.

Then I would recommend you change your homepage to something that has no bias and gives supported information.  Your personal and unfounded attack on a man you didnt know who died today, just because you dont know him and don't care just about shows what kind of person you are.

Steve will be missed by those he touched and those he loved and by those that knew him and had the actual contact with him.  My love and thoughts goes out to terri, bindi and bob.

Status: offline 		I for one will miss the man, He was full of life in the rawest possible sense, He did amazing things for raising awareness and he touched an awful lot of lives, It is such a shame that he is gone.
