Status: offline 		Since this guy came onto the scene, I always figured he'd die a horrific death.  He just took too many chances with wild animals.  This doesn't mean he deserved it, but heaven knows this was bound to happen:

Steve was a fabulous entertainer, showman and knew his animals - all animals.  Rays are not the most vicious of creatures and their venom is painful, but not that life threatening.  This is one of those awful, unimaginable freak accidents.
He was filming on the Great Barrier Reef and the rays spine/barb pierced his chest and went straight through his heart.
 
My thoughts go to his family.  He was a great environmentalist and animal behaviour expert.  My children are really upset and his death brought home how precious life is.

Status: offline 		Very, very sad thing to happen to such a remarkably well-respected and loved man, father, and husband. He surely will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Not that IB needs any defending, but I am offering my support.
If you look at another similar thread - you will understand why certain people are - rightly - upset and insulted by chains horrid belittling.  Whilst IB may be more of a gentlemen than I could ever be if I possessed a penis, and not naming names - I am not so polite.  Forums like this are designed for information and sharing of knowledge, not matter what the race, colour or creed of any person.  His continous racist, religiousist(is that a word)  and anti ethnic remarks on different threads and personal remarks to posters that he decides is fair game for the week is becoming more boring with every passing moment.
 
I am actually surprised that the mods haven't pulled him up sooner.  Whilst free speech is a great asset, hate speech and talking out of ones own chocolate starfish is not.
 
Hes made threads, dedicated to a fun and dedicated conservationist become nothing more than 'look who yanking this chain' thread.
 
For those who have met Steve, he was a great guy... those who have known him...he will be missed.  As little respect as chain has shown himself for not caring about other peoples feelings, I doubt anyone would miss him when he goes.

Exactly - which is why Steve spent all his earnings he made via his tv shows on purchasing land across australia and conserving them for future generations, saving plains, swamps and bogs, sacred land and deserts.

Status: offline 		I lost. My money was riding on a snake to take him out. Then again, he carried  anti venom with him. I knew he was safe around crocks since he always had his team with him. Atleast this documentry he was working on does show how dangerous sea life really is.

As per rules, the house always wins.

Two points here:

One: The stingray whips its tail over it's head similar to a scorpion which has the exposed barb free to penetrate the percieved menace.

Two: Just watching the mid afternoon news, the Cairns Police have viewed the tapes of the attack and his depth. It appears Steve was swimming in one and a half meters of water with the rays swimming on the bottom. One ray apparently got spooked and launched a defence killing Steve.
