I see that you are very attractively and tastefully made-up bondageangel. It is my hope that you have very carefully selected your products as the "sparkle" in most cosmetics in fishscale, and many of the "vitamin" enhanced creams and lotions do contaion animal derivatives. My sister is a very staunch (and vocal) vegan and animal rights activist; you can imagine her horror when she discovered that she had been putting dead animal bits on her skin for years.

You come in here and announce to the world that something is disgusting.  No room for our freedom of choice or whatnot, in your books, we are disgusting.

Now, try going to a car mech convention, and tell them you find it disgusting that their tools are made by raping the earth of it's iron. 

You are trying to tell us that what we are doing is wrong, based purely on the fact that you have decided it is. 

Didn't someone once say something about the way to change is in compromise?

Benji, I did not say that anyone on here was disgusting. And when delving further into the disscusion you will see that I was and always have referred to a product that is used for human enjoyment, at MAYBE the expense of an animal's pain.  And I didnt TELL anyone ''don't use that animal flogger!''

I voiced my opnion, which is what the boards for. You will also see I asked a question, so opnion and question asked and YOU took the piss and I feel highly sarcastic.

And MistressW, yes I know what products are and aren't tested on animals, I have worked in health & beauty for 5years now.

Wood - is it obtained from responsibly managed sources?
Rubber - is it produced using cheap and/or child labour?
Plastic / PVC - non-biodegradable products obtained from non-renewable sources...

If we look closely enough, we can find justification for not doing anything, or producing anything, or using anything.  To every problem there is a solution which has its own inherent problems.  So perhaps it's best to retain a sense of perspective, and not get bogged down in any deep debates on the finer points of philosophy.  Humans are omnivores: our bodies are built to consume meat, and for that to happen then animals must die.

Shouting and screaming rarely achieves its desired aims.  Quietly, and calmly, each person must content themselves that they are doing the best they can, whilst accepting that human nature is a varied thing, and not all people think alike.  The person alongside whom you work does not think the same as you, and it is not your right to force your ideas and beliefs upon them, no matter how heartfelt and sincerely you may hold to them.  They are your truths, and yours alone.

You said that the sparkle in MOST cosmetics is fishscale, and I have to let you know that you are mistaken. Fish scale is too expensive to be used in average cosmetics and is reserved for the very high end (usually). Mica is actually the main source for sparkle and shimmer in makeup. And for those that are unaware, Mica is a mineral.

Upon looking this up on wikipedia, they even used the term "rarely" to describe how often fishscale is used.

All I can say is that I have never skinned an animal that was not already dead. ICK! First you have to shoot the bunny THEN you can skin the lil bugger.

Oh, the same with deer. Unless of course you do like I did on Sunday and just run them down with your car.................

It is hard to find totally vegan products in local areas but with using the internet there are a LOT of good resources for her to use and plenty of vegan friendly sites and products! Good luck to her.

Ditto.  Who skins live animals?  Surely not the fur industry.  Skinning an animal (competently) is hard enough if it is dead, let alone squirming and trying to bite you.  If the OP (or anyone) has ever hunted, they would know this. 

LaT:  you gotta stop hunting deer the Wisconsin way, and buy a shotgun with a slug barrel.  Trust me, its easier than using the Mazda as your weapon of choice!

I am fine, thank you for asking. I almost missed her, just gave her a strong nudge in her left buttock as she was dashing across in front of me. She was big girl and left a nice dent in the left corner of my hood and some hair on the headlight. I now have matching left and right dents!!! The right corner of the hood was a turkey (you should see those things bounce!)

The biggest bummer about the whole deer thing was though it was a glancing blow I would be very surprised if she did not sustain a life threatening injury like a broken leg, hip or pelvis.I was probably going between 70 and 75, slower than usual due to a holiday weekend but still....ouch for her. She kept going and I found no carcass on the side of the free way when I came back past but I imagine it took her down at some point. I hated thinking it was suffering. Would rather see the big blowup ones that never knew what hit them.

Well that's just it - to everything, there is a downside. 

Me?  I had a burger for lunch, chicken for dinner, and have dead animals from moose to kangaroo to foxtail to elk to whatever in my toy closet.  I depleted fossil fuels by driving to school , and used paper napkins and toilet paper while there.   I did however recycle my diet coke bottle. 

I'll sleep well tonight.
