i am not sure what you mean by "Surely there are alternatives to these inhumane devices?".  Let's break this down and see what we can do.  First, animals are not humans, so, it would be impractical to treat them as humans (can i get my cat a driver's license now that she is 16?).

Inhumane means barbaric or savage. Her usage of the word was correct.

Actually not.  Attaching the word to the device means that the USE of said device would be inhumane.  Last I checked, bunny fur floggers were neither barbaric or savage, even if in the hands of someone like Charles Manson.  (OK, so maybe he could savagely shove it down your throat and choke you with it.....)

Unfortunately your cut-and-paste skills are lacking, or, perhaps you did not understand the preface to that statement where i said:   <sarcasm>

But, if you work for the DMV and can get my cat a driver's license, i would be very appreciative.

Ai yai yai!  I think she meant that using the animals to make the devices is inhumane.   Shes an "activist", we know what she meant.   I think we could overlook the sentence structure, no??

If she said...."You people are inhumane.  You people are sick fuckers who are victimizing animals"....ok now its about you and me and whomever.  But all she did was express her feelings on something that bdsmers do/use and she asked if anyone could suggest alternatives for making implements without animal products.   There are vegans all over the place who dont like the idea of people eating meat, but do we take this personally?  They dont even know me. How could I take someone else's feelings on something that I do, as personal?  Its just their feelings.  I dont understand how so many people here could read so much into her 'tone' and react to it in such a strong manner.....  Im a pretty defensive person, (who happens to take leather and eat meat) and I didnt read anything offensive off of her at all.  I dont understand ridiculing a person over something that hurts them.  I just cant get with that at all.

SweetDommes -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (9/18/2006 7:46:23 PM)

Please go back and read what I posted.

She asked if there are alternatives ... the only way that she could not already know that there are alternatives would be if she had lived in the middle of BFE for her whole life.  Which means that she posed the question to stir up trouble, IMO.  A person would have to have lived in a completely isolated, "in denial of the real world" bubble to not know that there are alternatives to real leather and fur (for anything, BDSM or not).

I stand by my opinion that she was trying to say that we are horrible people if we use such products.

Daddysredhead -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (9/18/2006 8:14:27 PM)

~ fast reply ~

The only "hate" mail I ever got on here was from a husband and wife Dom couple who said that I was obviously not "for real" since I made mention of a rabbit fur flogger somewhere.  They wrote to me and Daddy and said something like, "after reading about how fuzzy a rabbit fur flogger is, we knew you were full of sh-t 'cuz they don't make such a thing..."

I tried to send them a link to a RF flogger, but they had blocked me.  Oh well...  maybe they are reading this now and see that I was not making stuff up.

Gee, i thought you were gone.  Welcome back, and, hopefully you can discern when the label "<sarcasm>" means "HEY, WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS GOING TO BE SARCASTIC AND SHOULD BE VIEWED AS A LAME ATTEMPT AT HUMOR".

Why, thank you.  But, i think you are unaware of the way some submissives choose to use the lowercase "I" when referring to themselves in online communication.  It is quite a common thing.  Maybe you can Google it.

Huh?  Oops, did i use another question mark and was it really needed?  Damn, did it again!  Uh oh, commas too?!?!?!  Damn.  <sigh>

BTW, what does "uneccesary" mean?

Ignoring all the "moral" stuff about animals and whatever
I like to recycle awful 80s leather and suade clothing into toys as it is cheap, enviromentally sensible and it saves us from awful seeing god awful  outfits being worn  for Hens night , bad taste  whatever

CoyoteWhips -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (9/22/2006 6:13:11 PM)

On the subject of alternatives -- I make a nylon singletail.  However, I can't bring myself to call it a cruelty free whip.

I'm technically vegan.  I do eat meat, but I eat it seldom enough that I can still carry the vegan card.  I have no problem with killing animals for food and leather.  However, I'm scared to death of the intensive factory style meat production, using questionable feed containing animal remains and liberal antibiotic application.  It's a plague timebomb.

If you like furry floggers, there's a huge industry for mishap killed furs that aren't high enough quality for fashion, but make excellent floggers.  It's cheap fur, so most likely the source for your BDSM toys.

leathermaster13 -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (9/22/2006 11:03:36 PM)

Hey, bondageangel, what's up with eating slaughterhouse leftovers on one hand and pissing about leather floggers on the other?

What's worse; slaughtering someone to eat their flesh or using the hide of someone already killed for food? I use the term 'someone' because cows have feelings too. Ask any dairy farmer. I choose to eat meat and use leathergoods with my eyes open. I know what I'm doing. I choose to be on the killer's side. It's my choice and if PETA doesn't like it they can kiss my leather covered ass. At  least I can sleep at night knowing I'm not a hipocrite.

On the other hand, if you choose to honor another life rather than eating it's flesh and playing with it's skin, make rubber, vinyl and plastic gear. One of my best floggers is a three-tail rubber one I made from a speed jump rope I picked up at Walmart. When I let them choose, my subs usually pick the leather ones, but they all adore the rubber one's sting when I use it.

Life is full of choices. Choose wisely and have courage to stand behind your decision. Or suffer the consequences of a hard leather flogging.

SolitarySoul -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (10/26/2006 6:20:06 PM)

Did anyone notice how people are all defending the OP's right to be offended by the responding jokes, and bashing the jokers for being offended by her post?

I wouldn't say that the OP was non-inflammatory.  It was phrased (probably not deliberately, but who's to know with text?)  in a way that triggers a defensive reaction. C'mon, people, if someone says that something is disgusting, something that you do or use, you're going to get defensive about it.  Remember, it's not what you say--it's what I hear.  And the response?  Sarcasm, jokes...

Not exactly running her out of town, tarred and feathered.  (Maybe that's the wrong analogy to use in this thread, seeing as how we're debating animal protection...those poor cold chickens...)  But there were no personal attacks on her, nor on her choice.

IMHO, more people need a sense of humor AND compassion for a fellow person's choices (and that goes for BOTH sides!)

Aubre -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (10/26/2006 7:34:16 PM)

Cmon now, there is room for all the world's animals - right next to the mashed potatoes. I thought PETA stood for People Eating Tasty Animals?

I was the last family member (so far) trained to skin rabbits for food. They make really good barbeque sandwiches. I don't really expect to ever skin one myself though.

Where I live, deer hunting season is from late November to late January. Deer are rodent status here, two have struck my vehicle and I've known lots of people who have been hit by deer. A friend of mine who hunts deer keeps what he can eat, gives the other meat to family and friends, and whatever left to the poor. Deer season needs to be longer because they are out of control, you can't even have a garden in your back yard any more. I don't hunt though.

AlderTheKitty -> RE: Rabbit and deer floggers (10/27/2006 8:20:56 AM)

This year i would of gonne moose hunting if i my uncle was going but he is not.
