I think that in a global community such as CM hosts there is not one topic that will not be incendiary to at least a percentage of the members. I rather enjoy the fact that these topics can be discussed and/or heatedly debated with people from all walks of life and from all around the world. I would give my eye teeth to allow my undergrad students the opportunity to enjoy this mix of people, passions, viewpoints; the diversity is amazing. There is seldom a day that I do not learn sommething new or see something in a different light when reading the forum postings. In fact the very idea that people not post a topic that is of interest even if incendiary is abhorrent to me and, I would argue harmful to the community. As John Stuart Mill said; The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.
