Well, I would still consider a male to be a person, just not one I'd have much use for .

I am a woman and I'm female. Nothing wrong with using the term female in and of itself, and depending on the context in which it's used decides whether it offends me or not. More often than not, it's not so much what you say as how you say it. JMO

It is funny how male and female have certain inferior feelings about them.  Level, I would define you as a man, and then let you know that I could likely find a use for the males you have no use for.

I personally will pay more attention if I see the word Woman oppossed to the word Female.
I tend to use write that way so I guess it attracts My eye.

I also use the word men instead of male, unless I am talking about My male worm farm...the word men doesnt seem to fit there...hehehe

The word "woman" has a matronly connotation.  A "woman"
is a mature female.   I am not attracted mature females.
I disdain mature people.   There is a lot of child in me,
and I seek a female with a lot of child in her.  A mature
stock has little growth potential.  Likewise mature adults
have little growth potential.  They are what they are.  They
are set in their ways.   They are less adaptable than those
of use who are not fully mature.

More precisely, a woman is a sexually mature female.
Mature implies fully grown, not capable of further growth.
I like females who are young at heart, who are full of
laughter and mirth, who are not as cynical as mature
men and women.  I like females who like stuffed
animals, who are tomboys, not sexually mature women.

i think some people are so afraid of being offensive that they try to find the most PC and neutral words they can.  Also, i find "female" used more often on BDSM sites than others.  i don't know why and i really don't care.  To me, all things boil down to motive.  Is the term just a nuance or pattern of speech?  Is it meant to have negative connotation?  Why one term rather than another?  i never offended by being called "female" because i was born that way.  However, when my teenager calls me "Dude" (evidently "dude" has become genderless) i am taken aback.

I think "female" has a detached sense about it, and can be somewhat objectifying.  I personally like it, but then I'm weird like that.

I tend to use "female" when I'm referring to abstract gender concepts i.e., the female of the species, as opposed to the male - and 'woman' or 'women', when it's more immediate - I also say 'chicks', 'babes', 'motherfuckers', etc., depending on the context and to avoid redundancy - "shes' one hot muthafucka", etc.

Nothing specific is usually meant by it, although 'cunt' could be used as an imprecation, i.e., bitch. I do try to avoid the word 'bitch' usually, except as a verb - it tends to be a bit more inflammatory, and if I'm deliberately calling someone names (which is seldom), bitch is just cliche.

I guess I'm not hip-hop enough to be comfortable with 'hoes'.

You are welcome to express your thought on this matter.

How about words for vagina? I tend to try to vary my vocabulary there as well, for the sake of variation - 'vagina', in latin, means 'sheath', which could be construed as demeaning by certain people I suppose, as it implies passivity - a mere repository for something more useful, whereas the cootchie can be employed as quite the aggressive organ at times.

I agree.  Not with your last sentence about liking it though, which is why I didn't quote that!  *Smile*
I see it less on the boards, but much more in My personal email.  Taken in context, in that situation, it usually sounds quite impersonal, and as if anyone will do, so long as they have a set of boobs and a vagina.
No, I don't particularly like it.  But it does depend on the context.
And I understand exactly the idea Harry is trying to get across.
I always consider the source!

I haven't read the whole post, but if no one else has mentioned it, consider this: I generally say "female" or "male" because my career (law enforcement) consists of me writing a good many reports in which  "male" or "female" is deemed proper and and "man" or "woman" seems too casual. I'm sure there are other people who've just gotten into the habit based on their jobs.

It's similar to the way I always say "vehicle" instead of "car" or "truck". I always use the term "deceased" instead of "dead" or "altercation" instead of "fight." It's just a more proper/professional way to write.

Female cow or heifer?

Ok, the agriculture major in me is coming out :P This is a huge pet peeve of mine when people get "cow" or "heifer" wrong. Female and Woman mean basically the same thing. Cow and heifer DO NOT. A cow has given birth, a heifer has not. And of course a male can never be called a cow, as you probably already know!

Hm. Maybe it's because I'm relatively young, but I consider the word 'woman' to refer to someone a little more mature than myself. 'Female' could refer to any age group, from girl to woman to lady, though not necessarily in that order, and not necessarily referring to any specific ages under each title.

Yeah. I confused myself with that, but hopefully you can see where I'm coming from.

I know what you mean Gambit. I don't like being called a woman either. I prefer female or girl.

Yeah. I was thinking I'd put my money on the Women unless the Females had either Mothra or Godzilla on their side.

The paltry excuses some people will use to make attacks on complete strangers make me kind of .... understand the news from the Middle East a little better.
