rofl   oh Julia  I only had a few college classes   suddenly becomming a single parent and going to the field in the Army sorta got in the way and then I lost interest.   I regret it now.  I had to learn all that stuff to get my professional certification the hard way.   Most of my peers have Masters in the field.   And I didn't take Debate in HS   Only Journalism.   I am a Toastmaster.   I even had to learn programming the hard way.  The army didn't teach it in Oakland and Atlanta.

Question   weren't your papers footnoted?   that might help   I see a lot of that here and have done it here where People post links to their sources.

My papers had in text citations. And I am not about to cite every post unless someone wants the link, and if I can't cite it with a link I will post the name of the book the information can be found in... but this is a casual affair, not an academic exercise.

Well I don't know how we are going to reslove this.   I tried way back in what post 35 or something like that when I told you that I udnerstood that it was opinion.  I was personally personally inslted when you refered to my God as guns oil and drugs.   That is not fact based but presented as fact.   You directed that to me and every other republican.  You insulted our religious beliefs.   You have never discussed my religious beliefs with me.   there are no interviews that have been conducted about my religious beliefs.   There are no books, papers, posts, etc, except yours about my religious beliefs.  but you posted it as if it were fact and then stated that it was fact based.   You wouldn't let go so I guess I won't either.

juliaoceania -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/12/2006 4:04:14 PM)

I am not apologizing that I do not like the republican party and all that it stands for, and I am not a democrat cheerleader either. My OPINION is that the Bush admin, which represents your party has Guns Oil and Drugs as its God... I can point to what gave me this opinion, such as taking out Noriega and increasing the flow of Cocaine twice fold through Panama and Nicaragua , taking out the Taliban and increasing Opium poppy output, involving our troops in babysitting pipelines in Colombia for Occidental Petroleum, and kidnapping Chavez in Venezuela.

Now you may not agree with me, but Republican is not synonomous with Christian, so it is no insult to your religion whatsoever, if you want to tie your political affiliation that closely with your religion, that is your issue, not mine. I am not speaking of every democrat or republican as human beings or as individuals, I am talking about party leadership, and unless you are the ones making these decisions, well my comments are not directed at you at all. I love the fact I am an independent and have no team I have to get insulted and offended for.. because it really is a waste of energy in my opinion

I still take exeption to what you are saying.   You said republicans worship guns oil and drugs.    republicans are people   You didn't say the republican party (which is acollection of people (similar to the democratic party or independents) that have joined together to collectively work toward some political end).   I am one of those people  When you say republicans and not the party you are refering to the inddividuals.   Since I am one of those individuals I am due a public appology for the mischaractirazation, slander, etc.   I worship according to a religious belief.  Not a political affiliation.

juliaoceania -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/12/2006 4:15:58 PM)

I am not apologizing for that characterization which is about the politicians in your party, and if you cannot see the difference that is of little impact on me in my life. Partisans tend to take it personally when their leadership is attacked, the cure for that is not to be one.

I am not backing off.  you characterized republicans.  They are individuals.  You didn't characterize the party or the party leadership.   Had you done so you would have said so.   I am convinced of that.   You insulted me and every other republican personally.   And yes I am taking it very seriously.   I do not agree with everything the leadership does.  Never have,  Probably never will.  But when you characterized the membership then you are way wrong

juliaoceania -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/12/2006 4:19:30 PM)

Block me then Ken, I really do not care as I will not respond further to this.

I am not going to block you.  Have no reason to.   I want to know when you are slandering me

I think we were far more divided during Vietnam. The debate in this country takes place in an echo chamber designed by corporations. It is not covering what is really happening. The same happened back in the Vietnam era, but once questioning and real dissent started it became a firestorm that erupted into Kent State Massacre... if you are unfamiliar with Kent State Philosophy.... please go google it, I think it will illustrate how wrong Rather was in what he stated.

Actually I disagree. There’s as much division now {if not more} than there ever was;even during the Vietnam conflict.

The division has been somewhat masked by the fact that the world of today although closer through technology, is much more sophisticated to live in. There is way more toys and methods of escape/diversion through entertainment.

The division during Vietnam was more often sensationalized, whereas now it’s there, but it’s often interrupted with ''Natalie Holloway and Aruba'' or the '' Lacy and Scott'' garbage, etc, etc. – I almost have to think its being done on purpose to take our minds off the crappy situation we’ve gotten ourselves into in the ME – I deal with many hundreds of people a day….and I don’t know a single one of them that gives two shits about ‘’Lacy and Scott’’ yet when it was going on…. It was covered non-stop 24 hrs a day. You can’t tell me that that crap isn’t some kind of diversion to take people’s minds off what’s really important.

Also…The level of consumer/personal debt is at all time highs. Both people in the household have to work extended hours now to pay for all the over-priced homes, toys, bobbles and gadgets they never had during Vietnam. They come home, sit on the couch, drink a beer and watch Monday night football or reality TV and then fall asleep. Most don’t have time for Iran or Iraq because they’re well occupied / kept very busy having to work.

Ken,

If the Republican party stood for individual liberty and fiscal conservancy, they just might have my vote but they don't.  Bush and this crew have done more real actions to limit guns than all the Democrats combined since 1968.  I don't even have to talk about fiscal policy though, do I?

I don't know about gun control, mostly cause I think it is a silly topic.  BTW if you ever want to go out and shoot those darned Engineer stakes I have with me I have weapons that are not Cali Legal.  I don't shoot at people or animals except in self defense (I will defend myself against any type of snake right off)   And I don't go alone.

On the fisical policies there are some I agree with and some I don't.  I don't believe in subsidies, minimum wage, some of the EPA stuff, even some of the OSHA stuff and I hold a national certification in that and some if not most social services.   I do believe in a well funded Education, military, roads, parks, and some others.  Well funded does not mean give them what they want either.   It means to me give them what they need.

philosophy -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/13/2006 4:02:14 AM)

absolutely no offence intended Ken, but while i totally understand what you're saying here.....

"When you say republicans and not the party you are refering to the inddividuals.   Since I am one of those individuals I am due a public appology for the mischaractirazation, slander, etc. "

....you betray it rather when, on another thread, you insisted that most californians were mad...or something, i could go find the exact quote but i know you're honest enough to remember. If you're going to throw generalisations about it isn't fair to then ask not to have generalisations thrown at you.
Personally, when it comes to things like politics and religion i find it best to be as specific as possible, that way if people are disagreeing with you, they are at least disagreeing with what you actually said.

KenDckey -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/13/2006 7:07:54 AM)

I agree.   But at least I characterized it as most (which is 50% plus 1 or more) and I expressed it as my opinion.   Not as a statement of fact.   If you are personally insulted then I appologize to you and hope there are no hard feelings.  BTW   I have 5 grandkids and 2 sons living in Cali and I think they are nuts for it (oh one of them is  that is why the army retired him)

I noticed this also, being a Californian, and he was insulting my "type" of Californians, meaning me as an individual.. but I am not offended because I have had people attack me for being a Californian many times over the internet.

The thing is, I qualified my statements about Republicans as being about politicans and not about individuals... he did not do the same thing in his post... not that I care mind you... I don't

popeye1250 -> RE: are we really afraid? (9/13/2006 10:37:11 AM)

No but I think we need to make al qeada afraid by using nuclear weapons in eastern afganistan and western pakistan and flatten all those mountains there.
Bush is a pussy in my book.
He won't even enforce our immigration laws!
I can't wait till he goes!
