I have slept on the floor out of necessity on several occasions for various reasons.  I have no ill effects.  I don't think there are any.  In fact some beds can be more unhealthy than the floor.

I do not do this very often but when I do it can be for punishment, to reinforce submission, because the guy is a cuddler (ew) at night, the bed wasn't big enough for the both of us...any number of reasons

i've slept on the floor many times. Sometimes for punishment or because He needed a good nights sleep, several times because He was already asleep and i was in late.

its not to bad but i do miss Him being close.

Dear spankmepink11, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Coming into the scene in the 1970's it was rather common for slaves to sleep on the floor, on a mat, mattress, pad and sometimes under the bed, where a wood frame created a wood cage under it--similiar to the big beds of the 1400-1800's.  It also was a place for storage as well as 'gentlemen of the chamber' to sleep when in service to a male monarch.

With a good many slaves enjoying the bondage while sleeping, the rule in safe bondage play was never leave somebody unattended.  It was nothing to triffle with.  There were keys left in a jar or sealed envelope.  Jars were sealed in wax around the lid to be there in case of an emergency but--nothing else would tempt it's use.

Some folks who have bad backs are told by doctors to lay on a hard bed, put a board under the mattress, etc.  So, for some--laying down on a floor is kinder to that person.

In my case, I wanted a slave near me for my pleasure and at my time.  This was enjoyable to my slaves.  Most of my slaves were under the bed.  The automobile mechanic's creeper allowed them to scoot in and out with ease.  Soon after that, somebody invented drawers on wheels in the vanilla circles [Grins] as well as having more storage.  In an apartment where space is premium--creativity is key.

If the slave was caged and locked in, downstairs in the basement without a 2 second release to freedom--is folly.  A house can be in flames within 10 seconds and I don't choose to do that practice.  I have had slaves sick, so when that happens--they are put into a real bed and tended to.  I have even given up my bed for the sake of my slave(s).  Older slaves are put into beds period.  The key, is communicating to the individual slave and safe soundly, safely and with as much pleasure as possible.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

Your experience is not someone else's experience. I do not know when the last time you slept on the ground was exactly, the last time I did I was your age and on an archaeological dig for 3 weeks. I lasted only two nights on the ground and I had to go and buy an air mattress. I could barely walk after that, much less dig for 8 hours. I have allergies, you may not, I have joint issues, you may not.

I do not tell people that have asthma that it is all in their head even though emotions contribute to it. I do not think it is necessarily fair to tell others that have great difficulty sleeping in an uncomfortable place that their experience is not valid.

I have a bed for my cat, my sister has a bed for each of her pets, in fact her pig has its own house, and I am at least as valuable as an animal. I would expect that my comfort in this world would be at least as important as an animal's comfort. If your submissives/slaves have no issue with sleeping on the floor and it works for you, that is great! But some submissives DO have arthitis, joint problems, breathing diffculties, and sleep disorders that could be excerbated by such treatment. Sleep deprivation is a major problem in this country and more car accidents happen from falling asleep at the wheel than I believe any other cause. It is not a little issue for many people, and the older you get, the worse it can hurt to sleep in an uncomfortable place.

To the OP, I would recommend that you negotiate this up front with your prospective dominants and make sure they respect your rest if it is important to you... I know that I talked about this issue with my Daddy before we even met, and it was not an issue for us, but it was important enough to me to find out how he thought about it. I function very poorly on little sleep, and I have been severely sleep deprived in the past..,.it is NO FUN and can make one ill.

Dear marieToo, Ladies and Gentlemen;

ExSteelAgain isn't so bad.  Five minutes naked along side his bed isn't that long unless--

The bed was in a walk in freezer at full freeze.

The bed was outside in the snow.

The bed was at the North Pole and or other northern countries.

The bed was in a 'ice house.'  Of course, at times there are 'ice hotels.'

The bed was in an unheated room, with the slave standing on an ice block.

There is worse!  [Big teasing and a wee bit sadistic grin]

Respectfully submitted with a lot of humor,

Wow, what an interesting thread…with lotsa great responses.  I’ve never been collared or actually lived with a Dominant; but I had my own ideas about ‘sleeping on the floor’ and…LOL…I have to say they were not good!

Having read this thread though, I can see the benefits.  Like Julia, I’ve got ‘issues’ (pretty healthy, but some back issues), so I doubt I’d actually be able to sleep directly ON the floor.  Still, apparently some have ‘beds’ in the closet or their own room.  Suddenly, having been single for some time; the idea of ‘sharing’ a bed has the potential for about as much lack of sleep as the floor…though generally I’ve always liked some cuddling before sleep and the ‘available’ factor for Him.

But now…the idea that he could snap his fingers in the morning to ‘summon’ me to his bed…or the opposite; to send me to mine is rather intriguing.  Talk about feeling owned!  My eyes have been opened (again) to yet another way to look at things.  Thank you all!

Not something we do, probably because I have sleep problems as is. If told to, I would spend the night there but I would be cold, stiff, overtired and in pain in the morning. Moreover I wouldn't be able to drive safely the next day which would require him to run the children to their various activities and me to my appointments which would be more of an annoyance than letting me sleep in the spare bed.

I tend to get numbness in my extremities if I sleep on a hard surface, even some beds...sighs. I do not have back issues thankfully, but I do have hip issues and I have since I was pregnant. It feels like my hips are burning if I lay on a hard surface too long and it is hard for me to walk too. I have begun to have numbness in my hands when the bed is wrong for me. It sucks to get old, but like my Daddy says, it beats the alternative...chuckles.

On the other hand, I cannot get water in my ears due to chronic ear problems and hearing loss.  So no dunking or water breath play for me.  Yet, for most people, dunking your sub in the pool could be considered just fun and happy play.

The issue for me is that having your sub sleep in the floor is NOT inherently an unhealthy thing or suggests anything about the dom NOT caring about the sub.  That depends on the individual relationship.

I agree and even stated it would not be a problem for me when I was younger. When I was first married we had no bed so I slept on the floor for several months with no problem... but aging is a fact of life.

I am sure most dominants think about such things before ordering their submissive to the floor, or even this thread may make them think about asking their subs if they have any aches or pains before doing so, not all bodies have the same tolerances.

I, for one, always ask indepth about any physical ailments that any perspect submissive that I have an interst in may have. As do the Doms I know and "rub elbows" with.

My Mistress often naps when i am serving her. i am caged while she sleeps, sometimes for 3 to 4 hours. i would much rather be on the floor by her bed but that is not allowed.

I can see it being used as a punishment as well as an effective way of reminding the submissive that they're not in charge of anything.  Thankfully I've never had to do it, but I'd imagine it's very humbling.

I use it as a punishment and as a form of teaching personal discipline.  Also ... it keep him/her knowing who makes the decisions.  If they really screw up, it's not just the floor, but in a cage ... on the floor.  That's more punishment though.

Some people might think it's strange or wrong but, my bed is in my Master's closet.  It is not because my Master is mad at me and wants to punish me.  It is not because my Master wants to make me feel MORE submissive.  It is not because my Master wants to degrade me (He has other ways of doing that when W/we are both awake).  It is not because my Master wants to cause me any pain or discomfort (He has better ways of doing that when W/we are not sleeping).

For this slave, sleeping on the floor of my Master's closet is not humiliating, degrading, or painful. It's just where i sleep and i like it. It's my space.  It also happens to be very comfortable and comforting to me.  i have never slept in my Master's bed, although there have been a few times when He had me lay with Him for awhile before going to sleep.  He doesn't like to sleep with anyone, because He doesn't get a restful night's sleep that way.  i don't think i could sleep very well that way, either.  i am not sleeping directly on a hard floor.  i use the same air mattress and sleeping bag i use when i go camping, which is nice because i never have to get used to a "new bed".

Sleeping in His closet doesn't make me feel any more submissive to Him, since i feel no less submissive when i am sitting beside Him in His car driving down the road or walking with Him through a store. No matter where i am, i am submissive to Him.

It's not about where i am physically.  It's about where i am mentally and i am always a slave to Him there (in my head, that is) whether i am lying out at the community pool or sound asleep on my Master's closet floor.

I wouldn't put a boy on the floor..at least not in the middle of winter when he could be warming me up in  my cold, uninsulated house.
What a waste of heat!

From the age of thirteen to twenty one I slept on the floor. Why? Eh, I just didn't have a bed, and the couch made my back hurt... No ill side effects.

For me sleeping on the floor can be quite comfortable, I've often times fell asleep watching a movie in my living room. Yes, you can see the futon matress on the floor in my pictures hehe.

As far as sceneing wise... My ex did punish me by making me sleep on the floor. Strange how one thing you can enjoy can turn into a punishment easily... I felt very dominated when he did that... Almost as if I didn't deserve to sleep by him because of what I had done. This was very effective with me...
