*rant rant rant* And with this world-wide, undisputable, healthcare crippling nursing shortage, the University of British Columbia (really well respected nursing faculty) decides they will no longer accept straight-out-of-high-school applicants.... No no... Now, for UBC, you either already have to have a bachelors in Arts or Science.. Or you must be at least 2 full years into one of those bachelor degrees. Am I the only person who thinks thats just useless?? And.. Umm damn I've forgotten the poster, but whoever asked about going into it for money or passion her you go. I originally too my EMR (EMT-B in the states) because my parents wouldnt stop hammering me about getting a certificate. You know, just something to fall back on, looks good on a resume etc. But after the very first class, I was hooked. I'm not sure how to explain it, but emergency medicine feels right to me. One thing I hate about front line, eg paramedic work, is that theres always a chance it will be too late by the time I get there. And everytime I can't do something, it just kills me. A version of sub drop almost. But when I save someone... wow... It doesnt matter if I'm on duty or it was a car accident I happened to drive past. What I mean to say is, whether or not I'm getting paid has no bearing on the rush of "holy shit I just saved someones life!" So if I barely made enough money for my bills, I would still pursue medicine in some form or another.
