They mean whatever you like. There are no definitive color standards for collars.

I don't think there's a "hanky code" for collars, but I prefer black leather. It's even better if the collar is attached to a leash held by a Domme :)

I have never known anyone to assign color codes to collars as the colors are applied to hankies...but I wouldnt be surprised if someone has done so.

I don't know of any particular colors either. I have a leather play collar. I don't have a collar yet with my current dom. Although with my last dom the collar I wore on a daily basis was a strand of pearls
A collar is merely a symbol. It can essentially be anything. As long as the two of you know what it means and the symbolism behind it that is all that matters.
A very good friend of mine purchases a gold ankle bracelet with his name engraved on it for his submissives.
So, really anything would work.

Mine's brown leather with a locking buckle that I made. A good friend's is green and black leather purchased out of a store. She also has a wide gold chain that she wears "into the world". It's only a collar, and the colors don't mean anything.

Get something striking (no, I didn't mean the pun). Get colors that contrast. I saw some that were pink leather, gold leather and silver leather. White leather looks nice on suntans, the red looks good on olive skin tones.

The color is up to you.

Speaking of collars, did anyone watch the US figure skating championships tonight and notice the collar on the girl that is leading the pairs competition?

Nope. Sorry.

Busy having a birthday, making two floggers and trying to fix my ($^%^&%^ computer.

Dangit.

I always envied girls, they can wear collars all the time and no one says a thing to them. Try being a guy and wearing a choker collar.

alyssa has a great collar she got from eternitycollars.com it's awesome and can only be removed by the one who places it. there are not buckles that one could remove it if she wishes. they are secured by an alan screw with an alan key, one only the Master holds. they are seemless and don't snag, they're beautiful. check it out! alyssa would highly recommend them!

They're very nice collars, but they're by no means secure because the hex set screw that secures the collar is not unique. A generic hex wrench (probably either 1/16" or 3/32") that anyone can pick up at their local hardware store, will open all their collars/bracelets/anklets.

I've never heard of colors of collars meaning something. Perhaps you're confusing it with the gorean silk colors?

My boy's collar is from https://www.leathercellar.com/shop/index.php?cat_id=49&PHPSESSID=cc4ebab57f4e1866309b52b9f16015cb We got him the jeweled three ring whiplaced collar. It is lovely and I'm pleased with the workmanship.

I am not familiar with Gorean silk but at the Steel Door Scrolls http://www.steel-door.com/Chamber.html
F.R.R. Mallory says :

"The traditional or customary representation of the 'Collar of Consideration' is a leather collar in some shade of blue. The actual shade of color is not as important as the color itself."

and

"The traditional Training collar is often made of leather. It is generally very plain and may be either red or black. Many Dominants alternatively offer a training collar in chain. "

and

"The traditional appearance of the Slave Collar is a collar made of black leather or metal which is adorned by brass or silver objects or designs. This collar is created specifically for the individual submissive and is often an original design."

I am not sure what to make of it in light of what everyone else has said here. I am just an uninformed newbie who is trying to learn

As much as I enjoyed reading Mallory's book, (Was it "Extreme Space"?...I can't remember) I didn't much care for this "Collar of Consideration" concept. Her book has been the only reference to a collar of consideration that I have ever found. I just feel that if you're going to place a collar on someone's neck to symbolize some form of relationship or committment...you do it. Otherwise you might as well get them a friendship bracelet or a promise ring to declare your unwavering committment and dedication to being non-commital.

Perhaps someone with more years and experience would like to provide more information regarding these collars of consideration.

Why would a person accept a collar if they don't believe in the meaning behind it? Yeah, yeah I know there are velcro collars out there, but I would assume once you were real time. The collar would have some symbol of committment? Would it not?
I can't imagine taking off a collar at my whim.

I wasn't commenting on the meaning behind collars, just the mechanical aspect.

What? You mean a white collar doesn't mean the wearer's a knight, and a red collar doesn't stand for squire?

I think the red collar might signify that the wearer of a previously white collar is in need of dire medical attention.

I believe the importance of a collar, as 'we' wear them, is its significance. There are obviously times when a black leather collar is NOT going to be appropriate or appreciated.

I have several, depending upon the occasion and dress. Several black leather ones, one with cascading chains... one with D-ring for attachment to other toys or a lead. I have a solid chain collar with a small padlock at the throat. And then a thin gold collar adorned with tiny rubies... for those dressier, public occasions.

The significance of continuously being "in collar" means more to us than the collar itself. Presenting myself to Master for him to attach his choice of collar to my body ALWAYS sends a rush of adrenalin/passion through me. Feeling and hearing the "click" of finality as I am fastened ...

Color is preference.

Speaking to the mechanical aspect..
http://www.bondagecollars.com/collar.htm offers collars both with hex screws to lock it or "Snake-Eye" screws. The Snake Eye screws need a special spanner to remove them. This spanner is not readily available at hardware stores. Screws of this type are for use in places where casual vandalism might take place, such as schools, public transport, hospitals and prisons.
