Home made Christmas cookies, it doesn't get much better than that.  My mother bakes tons of cookies and home made fudge every Christmas.  She spends a fortune on ingredients.  I usually take a day off from work and help her in the kitchen.  She's always sure to make each family member's favorite cookie.  The best part of Christmas dinner is later -- coffee & a huge tray of home made cookies.  Oh god.

Well, there goes my Christmas.

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!  There goes my holiday season too.  I had planned to put me a nice little subbie on layaway.

On a serious note, I would be much more thrilled to be presented with a homemade batch of goodies backed by a thoughtful friend than some generic gift based in pleasing me for its dollar wow value.  Only time I might take exception is if someone brings me a fruit cake; that person wood instantly go on my chit list.

So people, unless you know someone absolutely loves fruit cake, don't do it, don't you dare ever give anyone a fruit cake, unless you hate or at least have a strong dislike for them.  I hope I didn't just curse myself.  Well no one here has my mailing address, I think I'm relatively safe.

Believe it or not. Yes.  I've met one or two people.  Its usually the ones that give it to others thinking other people might enjoy a slice as well.  I just look at them in amazement when their eyes glaze over at the thought of eating such a monstrosity.

Ut un, panettone that's a fake fruitcake that's not the real, like the ones from the days gone by.  You can count the piece of fruit in that panettone, in the real deal, you can't see cake, you can only see fruit..  LOL.  I'm sticking with "fruitcake"  cause you'd have to be fruity in the head to give someone that for a gift and not expect to be on their shit list.  Happy Holidays to all and to all a fruity tooty good night.

Just for that, I'm NOT sending you one of mine this year.

Don't think of it as fruitcake.

Think of it as a dried fruit (apples, driednotcandied cherries, raisins, currents, etc), spice (clove, cinnamon, nutmeg) and nut (almonds, walnuts) cake that I soak in brandy for 2 months before you eat it.

I've never had any objections.

Sorry, but I have eaten fruitcake, the kind that you speak of...not store bought, and I just don't like it.

I don't. I may be the minority but I don't use the holidays as a food excursion, anymore. I am exercising and eating right to loose weight someone bringing all that food over wouldn't be apreciated, because I can't  or rather I shouldn't take part in huge gooey cookies, I am also borderline diabetic, so all that sugar and shit might just push it into actuall diabetie's if you're not super carefull. I would love to go hog wild and say fuck all health concerns eat up it's one day of the year, unfortunatly that one day of the year can ruin all the carefull health managments I have been doing lol. because once I get off the wagon I DON'T want to get back on and it's a million times harder to get back on than stay on.

Subfever has the right of it. Homemade is where it's at. All that store bought stuff just says you thought about someone just long enough to spend some of your money on them. Big deal. But when you show up with fresh baked gooey cookies, cake, lasagna, giant bowl of chili, cornbread, casserole, wheat bread, canned fruit, homemade salad dressing, fudge, etc - baby, that's the stuff!

It's very economic and who doesn't want some tasty, delicious thing around the holidays?

The ONLY fruitcake I've ever actually enjoyed:

On topic again, my unmentionable was probably our wal-mart's only year round lay away customer, it broke his heart....

lol.  Believe it or not I do.  I particularly like the one with the white icing on it.  However I have never given it to anyone else as a gift.

Its really sad when the average, hardworking American in a small town has virtually no option for choices
exept to go to the huge block store to buy chinese goods made with virtual slave labor that
undercuts American jobs back at home.
