Status: offline 		Right, so this seems like a real easy question and maybe it is. Some people say if you have any kind of sex at all, you aren't a virgin (so does a spanking count?). Some say it's once your hymen's gone you aren't (what about tampons?), then others say that oral sex counts, then it's penetration by anything, while still OTHERS say it has to be an actual male penis.
Now I'm a lesbian, always was, so there will be no penises, thank you. How the hell do I know if I'm still considered a virgin?

Status: offline 		For the most part, people still go by the idea that "actual virginity" is lost during penis/vagina intercourse.  But as noted, this really is only a useful term if we're talking about heterosexuals.

So generally, ones "virginity" is gone after one engages in sexual intercourse- anal, oral, or otherwise.

While understanding the idea that the "first time is special" I think the sooner we rid ourselves of the idea that "asexual = pure" the better.

Status: offline 		Personal definition.  You lose your virginity when you have sexual contact with your selected partner. If your a lesbian, you'll never lose your virginity so to speak to a penis.. but you have undoubtably had sex with partners. There are a lot that define it as actual intercourse (natural or helped along by equipment), which is how my boy sees it.

Personally, i have a plethora of hypothesis, that i can select from depending on my mood/insight.

I lost my virginity when:
I first orgasmed from having sex with another
I first had sex with someone i loved who loved me in return
I didnt have to finish myself off
I slept with them all night for the frist time after the sex
I knew the persons name in the morning
When they knew my name in the morning
When i first had sex with a male
When i first had sex with a female
When i first had sex with both a male and a female
When i first had sex outside
When i first had sex in a bed
When i first had sex with a BDSM theme, not just sprinkles
When i first had sex on drugs
When i first had sex .........................etc etc

ps. Having sexual relations that leave you dissatisfied for whatever reason, they dont count!

Sorry to burst your "bubble" however riding a bike doing gymnastics and wearing a tampon will break your hymen.  However just because you have an torn hymen does not mean you are not a virgin.

Technically virginity is lost when there is insertion during sex, if you truly want to look at a text book definition.  However over time there have been many versions of what constitues sex,  after even the President of the USA had his version (which will go down in history more than anything else he did).

Status: offline 		My opinion is that you are no longer a virgin when you no longer *feel* like one.

Some would argue I lost my virginity the time when my male partner first penetrated me with his penis... but he only had it partly in before we stopped and he withdrew, so we didn't actually have sexual intercourse as I understand it. 

Some would say it was the first time my male partner penetrated me until ejaculation, but my hymen was still intact after.

Some would say it was when my hymen was finally broken, but if thats the case I'd had sex with 4 people and still stayed a virgin.

Personally, I believe it was before any of these events, on the day when myself and my partner got naked and explored each other in intimate new ways.  It was beautiful and exhilerating (sp?) and afterwards, I felt that I had crossed a line into new territory, and was now a sexually active human being.  That, for me, was losing my virginity: I felt a change.

Yes, I think that this sounds best. I have trouble with lying, so it's good to know I can still say straight-faced that I'm a virgin if I need to, (though I have no idea how that situation would arise!) but over all, yes.... I have indeed finally crossed that line in my mind. I was beginning to think it would never happen!
You guys may not remember her, she went by the name Whipenrod and has the most beautiful face. She always looks like she's smiling somehow, probably because she always is.

Now, The limitation of 'penis vagina' for virginity are silly. There was a gay fellow on politically incorrect some time ago who said "Accoring to Bill Clinton, oral sex isn't sex..... and that would make me a virgin..." And whilst we are at it, let's examine that in more detail. If you were a male homosexual instead of a female one, and you had had a million men penetrate your backside, but never been with a woman, would you be a virgin? Certainly not.

On the other hand, we can't classify EVERYTHING as sex. That would be silly. It should be more then a significant grope in the least. How about oral as a minimum for lesbians?

I think that if you've been with a woman before sexually (since you are a proclaimed lesbian) then that would be your definition of virginity. Just like heterosexual people would consider pussy/cock intercourse a way to lose virginity. As DV said though, it's personal definition.

The proscriptions in the middle east-based religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc) which have an issue about virginity tend to focus on the piercing of the hymen in a woman.

According to them, you are still a virgin if your hymen is still intact and your husband can show the bloody rag to his family who waits outside.

While I have ruined a few virgins in my day.  I tend to agree with George Clooney, who said "Who the hell wants a virgin?  I want 3 professionals."

But that is just me, and I could be wrong.
