Dnomyar -> Basic Rules (9/25/2006 4:56:33 AM)

I agree that everyone should do what they think  best fits their relationship. My question is that is there a Basic set of Rules we should follow and build our relationshipship on that?

Honesty and respect. Everything else follows on from those, and without them it all comes to nothing in the end.

Although most of us see this as important, most relationships do not really incorporate these things.  So yes, they are good, but a relationship does not need these things to be there, just like a car does not need air conditioning to get you from A to B.

benji

The basic rules for your relationship will be different than the basic rules of someone elses.  Makes us all unique.   Relationships are built in the privacy of the 2(or more) people involved within them and not from a list of rules.

But then, some are built up on rules (Gor, for example, I think)

I love how you can't say anything on this topic without being wrong, including:

I agree, some are built on rules, but again the word some is there.  I think even in asking this question on the Gorean boards the OP may find that even there the basic rules will be different from one relationship to the next.

I agree - but I find those sorts of relationships that lack honesty and respect from the start, end in failure. Honesty and respect are like the aircon - they keep the relationship comfortable for all concerned.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Basic Rules (9/25/2006 5:35:56 AM)

First know what it is that you seek/want in a relationship. Don't expect someone to miraculously enter your life & fill in all the blanks.

Recognize your own limits & be comfortable in stating them. Don't allow someone to tell you that your limits make you undesirable. Limits should be respected & only pushed if you are in a secure relationship with someone you trust.

Communication that actually sinks in so that all parties involved are not having to second guess what the other is talking about. If you ain't getting whats being said... then you haven't mastered communication & all that is happening is noise.

Mutual respect... just because one is dominant & one is submissive this doesn't mean one has more right to claim respect.

This is a few things I can think of right off.

LadyEllen -> RE: Basic Rules (9/25/2006 5:41:11 AM)

related thread "is it a tendency......" in the "ask a master" section, which shows why honesty and respect are essentials.

So there Benji! No treats for you today!

Maybe we should combine the one true way(everybody is breathing) with Lady E's suggestion.

I could probably be honest with a corpse but could i respect it in the morning?

If you are going to honor and respect a corpse you might want to consider air conditioning in your car to be a must, at least if you intend or taking it out anyway............

Bearlee -> RE: Basic Rules (9/25/2006 6:15:16 AM)

Is it my imagination or does it seem some posters post to watch other people jump to respond?  I mean really; what kind of a question IS that?

Maybe I just need more coffee, but benjie seemed to hit the nail on the head (again).  Perhaps the poster, too, likes to watch people jump through hoops.

You DO need more coffee - I've been saying that for weeks.

Not on the board, of course.  I couldn't stand to be wrong, but privately.

benji

LadyHugs -> RE: Basic Rules (9/25/2006 6:23:48 AM)

Dear Dnomyar, Ladies and Gentlemen;

For me, in my mind's eye--the Basic set of Rules in setting up a relationship with me are:

Must be breathing on their own--no assistance required.

Must be able to walk on their own--no assistance required.
Must be able to go to the bathroom on their own, to include draining their radiator and dumping a load into the ...err nebbermind.
Must be able to feed themselves.  Shoveling food in by themselves, along with drinking beverages.
Must know that if they continue to scratch, a flea collar will be slapped onto their neck in a heartbeat.

Respectfully submitted for consideration with a bit of wit,
Lady Hugs

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Basic Rules (9/25/2006 6:26:32 AM)

(fast reply)

For us the basics are Trust, Honesty, Respect and Communication. We consider those the foundation of our relationship. If someone is not honest then we can't respect them, if we don't respect them then chances are we won't trust them, and if we don't trust them we aren't going to communicate openly with them... end of relationship.

I'm sure there are people that have relationships that aren't quite honest and some that don't communicate with complete openness and honesty as well as some where respect isn't all that important... it's just not something that would work for us.

Jewel
