This absolutely sucks.  My sinuses have clogged up on me and the pressure is screwing up my equilibrium.  Severe enough to have me off work until I can walk straight.  The meds have done a fine job of making my mind fuzzy but nothing to promote draining.

Why is it that on days when I really should be doing other things, playing on the 'puter all day is fine and on a day when I can't actually do much else, all I'm thinking about is everything I can't do?

Allergies or migraines?  Doug has both...I do feel for you.  I live with someone who has the same.
Nothing I can say to help either.  He generally tries to relax when he can breathe...and ride it out.

Just a seasonal thing, and I've been working in smoke and ash around the fire zone (134,000 acres was the last number I heard).  Physically, I feel fine, but my sense of balance isn't working.  Incredibly frustrating.

Rich I feel for you. I used to suffer terribly from sinus crap. Several years ago it got down into my ears and I had the messed up equilibrium for almost a year afterwards. Almost fell off a ladder here at work. I hope yours disappears very quickly because it sucks!

I just remembered hearing my son talk about the fires out there. He is doing a big landscape project in the LA area and said the air quality is for shit. I imagine alot of people are suffering. I hardly recognised his voice on the phone the other morning it was so hoarse.

It helps.  If you try it, I suggest using it at half strength the first few days.

I have allergies to pollen and it triggers my asthma, and this time of year is bad for me.  I can relate.  I went to the doc last week because my left eye would not stop tearing.

For years I've rinsed my sinuses out with something like this. In conjunction with Claritin it keeps me functional almost every day.

I should warn anyone that pouring warm saline water into their sinuses is not the most pleasant experience and the stuff that gets into your mouth tastes foul but after you drain it all out and brush your teeth and mouthwash the taste away the improvement in your breathing is completely worth it.

I agree. It's no picnic using it, but I love my neti pot :-). I also find that, although it may seem counter-intuitive, applying ice packs to the sinuses gives me a great deal of relief while waiting for medicine to kick in.

Hello A/all,

I have had really bad seasonal allergies all of my life.  Basically, the only season which is not miserable for me is late spring.  So the past few years I have lived on Claritin.  Then a friend turned me on to something that has been used in conjunction with Yogic living in India for many years.  This is a Jalneti or Neti Pot and is used to do as DomKen states.  I bought a device called a Nasaline at a local health food store, which is a large syringe with a rubber end that allows me to push water up into my nostril until it fills the sinuses and pours out the other nostril.  Then I blow it all out of my head, and I am completely fine for hours.

I use saline water with a few drops of the essential oil from Eucalyptus twice a day.  I do it when I am taking a shower to clean all that pollen and diesel particulates out of my nose.

I have thrown out my Claritin.  I no longer wake up with a stuffy head or a sore throat.  I highly recommend it.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Sinergy

Has anyone ever thought that these problems are symptoms and even considered trying to figure out the cause ? Note, the cause is NOT the allergens, it is your sensitivity to them.

I don't mean to sound callous, but that is the truth. Can someone start thinking outside the box ? You have an overabundance or deficiency in your body which makes you sensitive to what is a natural substance. Does ANYONE even begin to think along these lines, the CAUSE, instead of the effect ? Ever ?

Why yes I tried that for 20 odd years. It was a waste of time. I'm allergic to a whole range of things including dust mites. While it is just barely possible to keep an apartment free of dust mites the same cannot be said of the various office buildings I've worked in or the US Navy ship I lived on for 2 years. I've tried any number of nutritional products that were supposed to correct allergies by treating the overabundance or deficiency that you seem to think is the cause. The result was no effect except to waste my money on snake oil. I eat a healthy balanced diet and always have so I shouldn't have had these problems according to the people like you who have bought into the mumbo jumbo about allergies and nutrition. My allergies are genetic. Every member of my fathers family no matter where they were raised or what diet they live on have functionally identical broad spectrum allegies.

Claritin and mechanically rinsing out my sinuses work where nothing else, even allergy shots, has.

Try using a Sinus Rinse Kit with the saline powder solution. It's worked wonders for me. After rinsing your nostrils, follow it up with a Breath Right Nose strip. I'm in your same situation. However, Nasonex seems to help me as well. I take it before going to bed and wake up not even needing to blow my nose.

To much Dairy in ones diet. After all, dairy builds mucus. If it's not to much dairy, then it can also be a lack of enzymes that break down dairy and mucus. It's not that anyone is lactose intoleraent, but just not at 100% to break it all down completly.

I also want to add that yes, many of us to know the cause of what's going on with our sinuses and watery, itchy eyes.  And some of us take allergy medications all year.  But if you are problematic with pollen, there's not much you can do beyond dealing with the symptoms, that has been my experience, anyway.

G'morning all:

I'm a sinus sufferer as well. Not just due to seasonal allergies; mostly tree pollen, which was unusually high this year. I've had crappy sinuses all my life. If anyone is suffering from congestion, I have a proven suggestion. Fenugreek seed tea. Available at most health food stores (not GNC!) either in bags or bulk. It's bitter as hell but does break congestion up so you can, ahem, hawk it out. Make it strong, 7-8 cups a day and you'll be honking like a goose but you'll be clear as glass and right as rain. I found out about this herbal tea many moons ago when I worked in a health food store. I used it in conjunction with Eucalyptus tea (for my sore throat) for cold relief. It's a blessing. It's not overly expensive either. Hope that helps someone. It's a crappy affliction to suffer from so I hope someone gets relief with this post.

Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others...

Bella

The walking sideways & not being able to breath I can deal with... I just went through a day of hell where the draining fluid from my ears was tapping out sounds like some type of moris code.

Talk about climbing walls...
