A sub is a type of sandwich or submersible..a bottom is something you sit on... just kidding

I was taught that a bottom was a role someone played in a scene. It is not necessarily the definition of someone, I liked knightofmist's definition. A dominant can decide he wants to be the bottom in a scene, it does not make him less dominant.

I am a submissive in my mind because I am someone that is involved with some level of power exchange in their day to day life, up to and including 24-7 power exchange. Others may have a different view of course

I understand what you are sayin..
I consider myself a Top..not a Domme..I enjoy controlling ..giving sensation..pleasure in a scene..but in real life..yes I would love my boy to listen to me.. but I don't want to control him..too much work!
So I guess I am a lazy Top..LOL

Given the facts as you state them, you are most likely a bottom...in my opinion.

Good grief   "verb" "noun". Enough of the damm english lessons. If you can read the spelling and understand the question leave it at that. We are all not english major's. When you start correcting  someone's spelling and use of language you are labeled an ass by that person. Just answer the question.

The idea of using Noun vs Verb is to make the diff tween the action of bottoming, vs the state of being, a description of a person, place or thing...  a noun.

As was pointed out,  a Dom or Master can bottom as an activity, but if W/we refer to a Dom/me or Master/Mistress as "A bottom"  it's usually implying He or she is being controlled inapproriately by a submissive or slave.

i'm really sorry if it seemed to be an english lesson Dynomar, i in no way intended to offend or speak down to A/anyone, i only meant to make the distinction between two different ways the words are used.

I'm new to this, though I've played with vanilla parters most of my life.  I'm curious: I've had people tell me that I am more of a bottom as opposed to a true sub.  That very well could be the case, and I am curious as to how everyone here interprets the difference between the two.

Briefly, I enjoy submitting to bondage, power games, etc. in a sexual situation.  Outside of that, I am not into those things and prefer to be free to live my life, my way within a relationship.  Or as a friend jokes "Get in the kitchen and make your own sandwich!"  Just how I am.

So...satisfy my curiousity please?

What do you think you are? That's all that matters. It took some time for me to get over the bottom/sub/slave thing. Each of those appears to have expectations of feelings and behaviors, none of which, imho, can be lived by constantly, if you're a human being that is. What makes you happy? And there's no rush to find out. It could take years, as you learn and experience.

In my world, I would classify you as a "CLIENT" because my personal subs MUST be service minded, and you clearly are not. *wink*

But in all seriousness yes, it sounds like you enjoy bottoming, submitting in the moment, but not being submissive in a general sense.

Greetings,
Perhaps it is a process?
A growing, learning pathway.

bottom-submissive-slave.

Aren't we born with tendencies and abilities?
To excell is to be to honed and achieve focus.
Skill, training, understanding -  like anything else.

" Rome wasn't built in a day".
Besides: a cozy, stone cottage in a sleepy Tuscan village has it's own beauty, no?

Isn't life is a journey?

Love, fawne

Bottom:  "Hey, if there is a party..I'm THERE!  You can do to me what you want!"

Submissive: "A Party?  I'll will be there to help you with whatever you need. When do you want me there to set up the gathering and is there anything I can bring?"

They also clean up afterward and (at least in my case) are generously rewarded by the Mistresse (Me)- even though they do not expect it.

Personal note: For me.. a bottom is useless.

A sub is the role in a d/s interaction. A bottom is a role in an SM interaction. D/s interactions are interactions which are focused on power or control. SM interactions are focused on sensation.

From what little you've said, you prefer sub role in scene-based play rather than in a d/s relationship. That's perfectly acceptable and you'll find plenty of partners who are interested in playing that way. It's not about sub'ing vs bottoming. It's about the context in which you submit.

Of course, I'm going only on what you've written here, which isn't much, so I could easily be way off.
