Thanks to everyone for the kind words. It really does help a lot. Doctors are somewhat unwilling to give any sort of definative answer, but you can take what they say and research on your own. Joan has no paralysis, only tingling in her extremities, which is a good sign. We are told that she had three strokes, two minor ones in the parts of the brain that has to do with motor skills, and one more serious one on the brain stem that has to do with vision (her vision is grey around the edges right now). They put her on a blood thinner called coumadin, as they think high blood pressure and a clot, played a part. One other thing that the doctors seem happy about is that she had a bladder and kidney infection that was building up toxins in her system, which was causing most of the disorientation. She seems a lot better in that area now ... she knows our names and who we are, where she is at, etc ... two days ago, she was so disoriented, she didn't know up from down. This kind of event makes you feel guilty for eating and sleeping, but that finally catches up with you ... and you pig and crash. My sister, the walking poster child for the Christian Coalition, showed up yesterday and was actually able to be civil for a while, before very subtly suggesting that me being a lesbian (anyone that is 20 and not engaged is a lesbian), and the parents working so hard to pay for my school, was a factor. When will life have an ignore button? Anyway, thanks again to all that offered support.
