Hello E/everyone!

I am very new to the lifestyle, and exploring it to see if it is for me.

I recently heard that a would-be Dominant (such as myself) must earn the title of "Master."

My Question:  How does one earn the title of "Master?"

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

You are going to get a lot of replies...

My question is why do you want to earn that title? What's the motivation?

It you want to become a master with the whip or flogger or with bondage, learn how to do it expertly and people will refer to you as a master of what it is you do expertly

As far as the rest, I have heard that a slave can make you a master by bestowing that title on you... I have seen lots of online dominants search for anyone willing to say they were a slave so they could be a master. I have heard of real life situations in which people pressured their submissives to become slaves so they could claim to be a master... what is in a name is my point? Why the need for the title? What is the motivation?

My Daddy has no desire for that title, and finds intimacy in my calling him Daddy. Some submissives call their dominants by their first name.

I guess my point is that I can understand wanting to be an expert at something, or being involved in a slave/master relationship... what I do not understand is the motivation to attain a title

There is no curriculum. If you want to earn it, simply act as you would act and when people you respect, or don't, start using it, that's what you are. This is a great idea if it's people that you respect who bestow it...not so great when people you don't bestow it.

As for my own opinion, I disagree that titles should be bestowed. For me, self identity was crucial in my personal development; it was a matter of realizing that I didn’t need outward approval to be who I am and feel that I am worthy of not only my own acceptance, but my own love. So, I took on the title of Master. This, of course, makes no statement or judgment about where I am on this journey or how well I feel I do it. I am as far along as I should be and do it as my skills allow. I am nowhere near as far along as I want to be nor are my skills as developed as I wish. These two statements will never change. I don’t think, however, that titles should be insisted upon, meaning I don’t think it is my place to insist you, or anyone, call me Master Fire. I use it because this is who I feel I am. When you agree, use it if you wish.

I have never given myself a "title'".  When someone refers to me as Mistress, it is because they see me as such-  Then I know it is a genuine form of address.

If one has to TELL people that they are a Master/Mistress.. they probably need a bit of "work"

Earning the title is difficult to do, as you have seen above.

But anything can be purchased over the Internet.

My Master is not hung upon titles i could call him by his given name but i don't see him as such i see him as my Master which is why i call him Master.  Every relationship is different.  Master, Sir, Daddy i have seen them all used.  The title is not important it is the meaning behind it that is.

Well thank benji you are too kind.  I was telling the guy that he does not have to be called Master not all subs call their Dom's Master. He may be called Sir or Daddy the title is not important it is the meaning behind it as i said.

Sorry, mine was meant as a reply to the OP, in an obtuse kinda way.  Speaking of strange words, anyone know what oriolographics is?

Simple....your actions give you weight.  Whether you are sub/slave/master/mistress/lady/lord/etc.   If I hear that someone else spoke well of me whether they used my title or not...it makes me very happy.  To me that says a lot.

Possibly.  I'll leave it open to a few more guesses before I give it a way.

My Question:  How does one earn the title of "Master?"

well, I would say paint something like the sistine chapel, or compose a work similiar to the 1812 overture, Or design  a building similiar to the Tampa Hotel, or well... there are a couple of thousand different ways to earn the title of Master... Join the Masonic temple, work with brick and mortar until you are bent with age....

Mastering something is not difficult.  Mastering someone is.  As others have said... its not what you say, or how you say it... actions speak louder than words.  (although I'm sure if you became a literary genius, and publish volumes and volumes of work, you can probably earn the title that way, also.)

CC,
That was too funny, for words, thank you for the twisted smile!

Well you can also attend a course of academic study ... MBA ... ~ but in all seriousness, the girls who are owned refer to their owners as Masters.  It's not like you can go and subscribe to a course of Mastery.  Although i hear that online trainers for submissives are ten to the dozen.  I like the old guard approach, from what i have read, the recruited as submissives, and then were taught the craft.  Worked their way from the bottom up.

Even attending local gatherings, munches and play parties i doubt would enlist you as a Master.  For myself, it is a title that i use to the One that i submit to.  Or, it is used, as a matter of respect.  It is not a word, that i ever use lightly.

I wonder if there are mentors who mentor dominants ... maybe that is where you should start your search.

Happy journeys :)

Master for me is the One i give my all to, the One that i commit my submission to and the One that accepts that submission.   He protects, punishes, rewards and is my all.  Above all He stands as the One i adore, respect and love.  I do not have a Master at present, i do have a Dom.  We have discussed ownership and someday He will claim total ownership.  When that happens He will be Master from that day forward.  IMHO.

I did in fact study a long time, the tools of the trade, the whips and the bindings. I had a good local group as a resource. And many of them I mastered. So in a sense, I went through my apprenticeship helping other doms, my Journeyman phase , repeating the things I had seen others do, and in time came to think of myself as a Master, when there were people who looked to me for inspiration. But in the end the only thing that makes one a Master is a submissive or slave who calls him by the title (or is it perhaps a term of endearment) . I don't require my slave to refer to me as "owner" or "master", but at kinky events she often does so to put our relationship in context. I don't think it means much to be called master by an eager young thing at a scene event. To hear "master" called out in a moment of passion, then you have something.
