do you get unwanted calls?

I am really sick of call from India trying to sell me pills! I tell them to stop and they dont. I am ready to change my number! Im on state and federal do not call list.

I should add- im also sick of political calls!!!!!!!

Sub03 -> RE: unwanted calls! (9/30/2006 9:59:45 AM)

I get them everyday, couple times a day. Its beyond annoying.

willow06 -> RE: unwanted calls! (9/30/2006 10:01:35 AM)

I used to get them, but then I signed up for that thing online that says telemarketers can't call you.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: unwanted calls! (9/30/2006 10:05:21 AM)

I just hang up on them, no biggie.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: unwanted calls! (9/30/2006 10:06:08 AM)

I have told My friends and family to start talking as soon as the message recorder comes on, then I will pick up the phone.  Other wise, I don't even bother answering it anymore.

I'm with you, if I don't recognize the name or number on my caller ID, I don't ever pick up the call.

mstrjx -> RE: unwanted calls! (9/30/2006 12:54:13 PM)

This is an easy one.

I live alone, yet........

a) I don't answer the door.  I know it's not a call, but it's still not for me.

b) I don't answer the landline phone.  The only messages that seem to be left are telemarketer crap, and hang-ups.  So, they're not for me either.

Any attempt at intrusion really doesn't involve my attention.

I run my business out of my home.  Unfortunately,  commercial numbers are not elligable for the "do not call list".
The worst are the "recorded messages"
I also am not fond of "Junk Faxes"

I should add- im also sick of political calls!!!!!!!

Daddysredhead -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/1/2006 10:24:29 AM)

My number is unlisted and unpublished...  cuts down on most.  The few that trickle in, I either don't answer or I tell them to remove me from their call list.

RubberWitch -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/1/2006 1:08:19 PM)

I say I'm interested, that I'm busy, can I get their number and company name, then tell them that I'm on the TPO, and they now face a £1000 fine. thats really fun.

Shadowrun -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/1/2006 1:21:45 PM)

Haven't had a land line for about 4 years now. (all cell) Almost eliminates all unwanted calls except people you have a prior business relationship with.

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/1/2006 5:22:30 PM)

You just need to tell the caller hold on a minute, then put the phone down & walk away for 10 or 15 minutes... If they're still on when you come back then hang up...
Many times I'll screw with them if I have the time,

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/1/2006 7:09:33 PM)

I am on the do not call list..before that it was frequent enough that I was ready to toss the phone out..Since then however it has cut back considerably..and now that I am unlisted even more so..now mostly I get wrong numbers probably due to the new number....Tempting

http://http://www.consumerist.com/consumer/tom-mabe/tom-mabe-pranks-telemarketer-with-own-death-206986.php

Above is a link that is probably one of the funniest ways to deal with a telemarketer!The telemarketer is informed he has called a murder scene!

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/28/2006 2:22:19 AM)

I use to get this call from someone trying to sell me newspapers, they would call as late as 9:30 in the evening disturbing my young ones trying to get to sleep so one night i decided to fix them...when they called I simply told them if they ever called back I would trace the call and have someone come blow up their building and i used some nice language.....for some reason they never called back[:D]

KatyLied -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/28/2006 3:52:57 AM)

I'm registered on the do not call list, I don't get unwanted phone calls.  Only during election years, and those are pre-recorded.

windchymes -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/28/2006 6:13:07 AM)

I registered for the do not call list, too, but it doesn't stop those who automatically call sequentially.  In other words, they start with an exchange, say 234- then call 1001,1002, 1003, and so on up to 9999.  Best thing is to check the ID and not answer if it's an unfamiliar number.

I got to a point where I kept my land line unplugged all the time and just used it for calling my cell phone to locate it when it was lost. [:)]   I realized that all my friends and business associates used my cell phone anyway, so I finally just cancelled the land line a year ago.  I haven't missed it at all.  Of course, you can't be on dial-up internet access.

Fantazmaster -> RE: unwanted calls! (10/28/2006 10:24:44 AM)

These are very interested and informative posts regarding these unwanted calls and I have enjoyed reading them.Here are a few more resources to deal with and hopefully reduce further theses type of calls:

The Do Not Call Complaint Redistry Complaint Form:Here one can turn in the name or phone number of the offending
caller>I have used this form in the past on a persistent timeshare resort telemarketer who kept insisting that I had given them permission to call by visiting their website,which I had never visited.Despite several requests to remove my phone number from their call list,the calls continued.Two weeks or so after finding this page and submitting a complaint the calls
stopped from this "tropical paradise,2 weeks at a time" purveyor.

Next is this website which has all sorts of articles and information which can prove helpful in all types of consumer issues,unwanted calls included.I do not really care for the web design on this site,but admittedly it has come in handy in dealing with several unresponsive companies:
http://www.consumerist.com/consumer/evil/

Here is the fellow that is the dean of telemarketing revenge,Tom Mabe.Tom mabe is the one behind the "you have called a murder scene" link I posted earlier.This guy also is credited with attending a telemarketer's convention and and calling their hotel rooms at 3 AM and posing as conducting some sort of insomnia survey!
http://www.tommabe.com/

How about a whole forum devoted to this very subject of unwanted calls:
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8749

Rather than give up the land line as windchymes related above,there area few devices that may help:
http://www.telezapper.com/
http://www.privacycorps.com/products/?id=2

http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Telemarketer_20Occupierhttp://www.familysafemedia.com/screen_machine_telemarketer_ca.html
Interesting but the author of this website actaully has turned these unwanted calls into a source of income:

Oh, you're talking about telemarketers?  Most of my unwanted calls are from bitches who want to get back in with Lam.
