Unlike most Fox watching idiots, Osama is actually intelligent and well educated as are many of his followers.

What makes us appear weak to them isn't whether we stay or go, it is whether our actions are shrewed and effective.  Osama destroyed an enemy of theirs, one they couldn't do so on their own at zero cost to themselves.  They got the US to overthrow Saddam.

When you get someone else to do your bidding, they are weak

When someone tries to do something and can't because they are incompetent, they appear weak.

When they make a mistake and recognize and correct it before you spot it, they are smart and clever and an enemy to be feared.  When they make that mistake and while recognizing it, fail to change for fear of exposure, they are weak.

This administration is so easy to manipulate, so easy to predict, so perfect for Osama that one has to wonder as Bush walks down the street of holding Osama's distant relatives hand...

'What makes America appear weak?'

Fighting a war they didn't have to fight, wasn't in their interests to fight and warned by one of their leading generals that they would end up bogged down.

To pinch some words from thompsonx, Bush must have been in the shithouse smoking dope when he decided to start this war.

Things that make America appear weak?

First and foremost is freedom itself. Before Pearl Harbor the Japanese leadership viewed us as weak because we were arguing amongst ourselves and muddling along being cantankerous individuals. Of course this isn't a weakness but a strength but the autocrats never understand this.

Unfortunately the following things not only made us look weak they actually embolden our enemies:
Beirut Marine barracks 1983
Giving weapons to Iran in exchange for hostages
Pulling out of Somalia
Failing to get the job done in Afghanistan
Letting the Saudis bully us
Allowing Wal Mart to fund the Chinese Army
Invading Iraq without any sort of plan for winning the peace

Darfur wouldn't be a war. Darfur would be another Bosnia where our troops would roll in and the scum who are attacking defenceless civilians would suddenly find other things to occupy their time.

Obviously Bush never read Sun Tzu. It is always a weakness having a leader that isn't cultured.

'There is no instance of a country having benefited from prolonged warfare. '

'Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. '

'Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.'

“Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”

     “All war is deception.”

“He who is prudent and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious.”

'Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance. I think Osama has read this.

Meat, maybe Osama did but I wouldn't want to be him now or anywhere near him now.
With all those new "robot" unmanned airplanes they're comming out with Mr Bin Laden's days on this earth are certainly numbered.
Some can hover for 40 hours only to be replaced with another one.
It'll be "Osama vs The Robots."

I didn't know we needed your permission to get dragged into every martial intrigue that you plague the globe with.

Like I said in another thread.....the neighbor peaking over the fence, who's worried about everyone else but himself, is the one who always appears weakest to me.

Ummmm The guys sending out the robots don't know where the target is. Smart weapons are only as smart as those weilding them. In some cases, maybe the weapons are smarter.
There is the joke about the ultimate smart bomb. Before it got to the target it figured out that war is a total waste, and turned back to blowup the idiots that launched it.

Ken:
I do not know where you got the impression that Japan ever thought the U.S, was weak prior to Pearl Harbor.
Perhaps you might want to read John Tolands "The Rise and Fall of the Japanese Empire".  In it he delineates Japans efforts to avoid a conflict with the U.S. and Roosevelts efforts to involve us in the world wide confllict.

What made America appear weak, was Bush's appeasment of the 9/11 terrorists, and his obedience to Bin Ladin's demand to withdraw troops from his homeland Saudi Arabia.

Kinda rough to be Tough on Terror when the Terrorists know that you give up.

Acurrent commercial runing here in OK practically demands Bush to stop the genocide in Darfur. Bush will be ostrasized if he doesn't get us invovled in Darfur and villified if he does. . We'll be damned if we do and damned if we don't. So, I agree with Popeye.
at least by doing nothing we won't lose any lives over it.

Funny Pte, some people don't want us in Iraq but they'll turn around 180 and "demand" that "we" "do something" about Darfur and probably 90% of Americans have never even heard of it!
If that were to happen would there be demonstrations in the street like for Iraq?
The best way to handle Darfur would be for China to airdrop in 1 million machine guns, 100 million rounds of ammo, 100 tones of crack cocaine and 1 million cases of Jim Beam whiskey and let "Nature" take it's course!
Zensee, stop peeking over the fence.

We can't invade Darfur, maybe as part of a peacekeeping mission, we don't have the troops, and the UN doesn't want to go in until the situation is stabilized. To that end, we ought to have backed up the African force that's already there, and has been for a year or so now, before they - and we  - became entrenched in similarly deteriorating situations. Both forces are now bunkered, and only marginally effectual at mainting any sort of order.

Everything Bush touches turns to shit, so I'm not sure it'll make much difference no matter what we do.

How exactly do you appease somebody that died when the plane they hijacked ran into a big building and fell down / go boom?

It was not necessarily Bin Laden per se who told us to leave Saudi Arabia, it was the entrenched monarchy we both put in place, supported, and then allowed to use their massive oil revenues to purchase an enormous percentage of our economy.

The theory of Terrorism is to make those you are attacking live in fear, alter their lives, waste their resources fighting the ghosts of terrorist possibilities while you
eat falafel waiting or attacking them from directions they least expect.

Bush is not fighting terrorism at all.  He is ensuring that they realize their goals.
