How true, Ma'am.  Haven't heard any complaints but my ears are often covered.

Years ago I got to know someone quite intensely online and via telephone, but when we met 4 months later the meeting was quite a flop, there just wasn't enough spark.

I think if there is mutual interest in meeting, it's better done sooner than later, to verify the sensations and impressions you get from that person. The longer it goes on only virtually, the more the 'mystique factor' kicks in - the mental image of that person stays stuck at some fantasy level, and it becomes more difficult to see him or her as is, and not just as an icon. Virtually or telephonically you cannot completely perceive 'vibes', personal or combined chemistry (or lack of same), or whatever you want to call it (and I don't mean just sexually, I mean hitting it off ... pun intended )

The longer you wait the worse it is, you will naturally set high expectations and the when the other person falls short of them, it can be very disturbing..

How incredibly true this is!!

18 months huh??? No offense to anyone meant but that sounds to me like they are making you wait while they try to get themselves to be what they are trying to tell you they are.  Ok, it's early and that didn't even make sense to me.... What I mean is... there's a lot you can do in 18 months... you know? Like finalize that divorce, lose that extra 150 pounds, get that last surgery to complete your sex change, give birth.... twice.

Not for me, if we talk and the conversation is a hit and we get along great I wanna meet the next day... or the upcoming weekend.... soon. I don't want to put it off for months on end. In my opinion if the conversation goes well the next logical step would be to find out if there is any "spark"... is there a connection? And I just can't do that online. My attitude is simple... what's the worst that could happen? You make a new friend?

I think meeting somewhere between 2 weeks after first contact and no longer than a month works about right.   I want to make sure they have some "staying power" in that they can manage to focus for more than a day or two, but I'm not interested in wasting much time talking online with someone who either 1.  is too chicken to meet real time (not uncommon) or 2. who I'm just not going to have any level of chemistry with once we meet.

Waiting 18 months to meet fact to face is ridiculous, IMHO.   To my mind, that's more of a number of months to wait before moving in together or the like.

I thought I was the One with the all time longest online test period!  Wow! 18 months? really?  Absurd.

6 months is a long time to wait to meet someone face to face, but I demand it of a potential sub.  You'll find a lot of subs and Dommes who think I'm pushing the envelope way too far with that, but I expect at minimum 6 months of online communication prior to establishing guidelines and conditions for a real time face to face meeting.

I have friends who meet their online acquaintances the same day or within three days.

It all boils down to how intrigued you are by the person you're communicating with and to how long you're willing to wait to see if your interest is well founded.

I will add that My current sub agreed to the six month waiting period, and his willingness to do so helped Me shorten that waiting period to a little less than 3 months. 12 weeks well spent, since he's been My sub for 4 years now.

But 18 months?

Preposterous.

Thanks to all for Your insightful answers.  i do think that 18 months is way too long a  time for a service sub to go without being allowed to deliver even a real time cup of coffee.
     Thanks again.

18months online courtship sounds like "I'm busy with my husband/wife or other relationship, but if you hang on and that doesn't work out, we can meet."
I'm with Pandora, that you should meet as soon as possible (within 2-6weeks), so as to not develop unrealistic expectations and waste too much time of your precious one life to live on your terms.   M

As romantic as that sounds, I don't think tongue in eyes is ever a good idea.  I'm relatively certain scat is safer, lol.   M

I don't need Kenny G for that. For that I rely on my conversation skills.

;-)
