I used to use online sites to meet people, I have tried several, some vanilla and some not vanilla. I have noticed something in my time of using these sites that seems odd to me, and that is a type of picture people post on their profile, the type of photo that has been edited to cut a person out of them. Usually it is a guy that cut his ex out of the picture.

I was just checking my email on the other side when a personals popped up of a guy that had cropped a chick out of his photo... her hand was still present in the picture. When I was looking for a mate people with these sorts of pictures got immediately rejected, perhaps I am too judgmental (my Daddy says I am[:D]), but I would look at these pics and wonder why they could not get a photo without someone cropped out of it?

Now do not misunderstand me, I have no gripe, rant, pet peeve about this issue. I believe people should post whatever they like on their profiles, and I wish them well in their endeavors, but I was just wondering what crosses the minds of others when they see such a photo on a profile? Does it matter to you? Do you wonder about the person that was cropped out? Do you reject the person for this, or do you ignore such photos?

I am just curious about what reaction (if any) others have to such photos

I guess I never give it a second thought. Maybe it is just their favourite picture of themself or they don't have a digital camera. Who knows. Besides the other person in the picture that got cropped out could be a best friend, sister, mom, whatever.........unless of course they are sending some really interesting pictures! Could make for some interesting photo cropping!

The person may not have access to a digital camera, or even a computer that is theres.  Some pcs are so slow it is impossible to view images let alone scan them in.  They may like the photograph of themself and I would respect someone more for cutting out another person, than for posting their image across the internet without consent.
 
If your going to reject something just because of an assumption, that I question more.  Why not take the time to ask about the photograph and the reasons behind it - you learn more about a person from their response to such a question, than the photograph itself.

I think such photos are likely an extremely accurate depiction of the person's self image. They likely view themselves as having been cut off from a relationship with stray bits still dangling on either side of the cut.

julia - I know you are going to think I am being picky...lol... but if its a moot point, why ask it?
I have exactly all I desire.  But I still 'meet' other people everyday... and if somone sent me a photograph and I was interested in finding out more, like who was in the photo, I would ask - I can assume all I like, but I can still be wrong.

Aside from the difficulties of obtaining certain software and hardware...
 
This is an interesting perspective, and one that i have often wondered about when prospective Doms send me their pics, and sometimes with an apology, when they include a pic with their ex by their side or in their arms.  Mostly with comments about not having a better pic to send of themselves.  Interesting...

All my pics are just me.  Course I have 3 digital cameras and a camera on my cell phone.   I think the availability of digital cameras is such that almost anyone can get access to one if they truely want.  I also hate it when they are cropped.  Course I hate most professional pics because they are retouched too.

I used to wonder about this too, the photo I saw today reminded me of the times men had sent me pics like you described. It is like teamnoir stated, it is like little bits of the past are dangling in the photo and it just does not make a good first impression when you desire to try to make a fresh start, and I wonder about that.

Wow, I never considered that before.. do you think this is a conscious thing or a subconscious thing? I do not think I will think of it exactly the same way now that you weighed in with this idea

I have three pictures in my profile and on my third one I have a person cropped out. For me personally it was simply because I thought I looked fairly decent in the picture and I am not going to put another person's face on a site like this.

I prefer a regular photo much more then a posed webcam/self timer stiff photo and find myself much more attracted to them. I do not know about others but I do not have hardly any pictures of just myself and really have no desire to have any. cropping is fine to me as long as it does not totally butcher the picture.

I'm with KenDckey on this. I think when the images are too slick it works against them too. It makes me think they are self-obsessed or overly self-centered. And by slick I mean professional images, heavily manipulated photoshopped images and arty pieces too. It's just not genuine enough in my view.

My problem with the cropped images - although I do understand the explanations raised by others - is that it suggests a very minimal effort on their part. Digital cameras and scanners are ubiquitous enough that people have to be able to come up with something more than that. Kinkos has scanners! So if they care that little themselves, I care even less than they do.

Teamnoir provides an interesting take on it also. I think the important factor may be how they haven't fully disconnected from a previous relationship. I'm going to connect this to the "dead dom syndrome" I used to joke about. I hate it when I come upon a profile that says someone used to be involved with the "Master of all Masters" but that he died, divorced, dumped them - but that he was so great you can simply never expect to live up to the legend and will always be second best compared to the memory of "Him."

Yeah, hook me up with some bitch living in her past...gonna get me some of that come down.

Yeah, but it's the third photo and there are two others besides. So in context, it's just informational: "Here's a pic of me out for the night."
