Thanks to the OP for explaining the 'twue' thing, and the reason for all those stray w's. When I saw a few posts using them I thought Elmer Fudd had joined this site.

And that's not a pretty thought - I mean, Bugs Bunny would be ok. Daffy Duck I could understand - but Elmer? Nooooo way.

From the first day i came on here, i saw the catty undertones Julia used in her responses. i even stopped reading her posts because of it. All it does is bait people....and she knows that. As a matter of fact, she just did the same thing (to me) on another thread i was posting on. That P-A stuff all seems so innocent but everyone knows it's not.

Well, i am not P-A....and i am not going to sit back and be talked about through innuendo. If i see undertones like that again (toward me), i am definitely going to respond....my way....and not with that
P-A baloney. And i am going to save the posts so if i ever get moderated i can show them what i was responding to.

i see that others have started new threads out of their frustration with her (not just Erin either). i will not do that. i will address the issue right then and there. As i have said, i come on here to engage in intelligent conversation....and hopefully learn a few things along the way. When someone doesn't agree with me, they can say that, hopefully with some kind of respect, as i would give them. But these catty innuendos are just for the birds.

And i really did not intend to attack anyone else here but again, if someone responds to something i say in a disrespectful way, either overtly or covertly, then i am going to respond to that in kind.

BTW....i was the Humor Police due to a post where Catize appointed me and Erin that....so again, i responded accordingly.

These threads and the thoughts posted are nothing more then words on a screen, you alone can decide whether or not they affect you. They can, and often do, teach and there have been many insightful thoughts posted on these boards, even from people we lack respect for. But for the most part the one thing you learn from posting here is who you would and would NOT like to have sitting in your livingroom at some point simply because of their behavior here.

At what point does it become to much? When does repaying disrespect with more disrespect do anything other then disrupt what could otherwise be a wonderful conversation? And at what point does "covert" translate into paranoia? To ruin a decent online reputation because one is offended by the words on a screen from an anonymous individual when the block button is so readily available makes no sense to me. It takes a strong person to stand and fight for what they believe in, but it takes and even stronger person to walk away from absolute futility. I personally couldn't give a rats ass what some people think about me and the fact that in my eyes they are disrespectful to me or mine doesn't affect me at all. Having raised way too many kids I am capable of ignoring damn near anything. I do know when to check myself to avoid sinking to the level of those I feel have stepped beyond reasonable adult conversation (not that I always do). It's a skill many would do well to practice.

I teach negotiation strategy and theory, and this thread (without, sadly, the Fuddisms) could be in my textbook.

Did you all notice what happened here (in part)? The "wolfpack" theory in full display. One person attacks another, usually believing she is in a position of safety within her group (the wolfpack). When the attacker perceives (wrongly, in this case) that another individual agrees, he/she tries to coopt that second person to add numbers to the attack. If the second individual doesn't distance from the attack, the pack grows (Iskander immediately disavowed the attempt to coopt him).

So the coopt attempt fails. Often, another member of the pack will come rushing in, often to pour platitudes on the group ("Why can't we all get along?") or to sew more discontent through threats and nasty statements. But the new pack member's strategy is really to divert attention while the original wolfpack member scrambles to safety.

"Wolfpackers" are considered dangerous in group negotiations because they destroy fledgling alliances and sow discontent. They rarely venture out alone, because they are deeply insecure and afraid to express themselves until they are sure there are members of the group that support them. Ironically, it often turns out that wolfpackers don't care WHAT the issue is -- they just love to engender controversy from their perceived "safe haven" (Ron would call them "shit stirrers" and he'd be right). Wolfpackers are common in bullying situations -- I've been part of efforts to diffuse bullying at the jr. high and high school level, and usually the chief bully will have her or his "packers" around. Wolfpackers also undermine hostage and other sensitive negotiations.

Other wolfpack behavior involves making sweeping generalizations to support an unsupportable view, attacking newcomers to the situation who appear to have an affinity with the "other side" (note what happened to Aine when she posted?) and most notably, ad hominem attacks on individuals in the group (like the vicious attacks on Julia and Sinergy).

Wolfpackers are usually successfully isolated by the group in groups that want to get something done. I don't know if that works in "online" and I'm not sure CM boards "want to get anything done". By the way, the other example I use in classes to illustrate the "wolfpack" is a gaggle of 12 - 13 year old girls "dissing" a person outside their clique, and I'd say the "wolfpackers" on here are just about as mature.
