ORIGINAL: Iskander Funny, I would have thunk that people, specially those here who have to be pretty damn confident of themselves to 'whip' or 'be whipped' don't really give a ratsarse what box someone thinks they should belong into... Specially not when it comes from someone as you say who is clueless... You would think that would be so, but it doesn't appear to be very accurate. There are certain words which are hot buttons, like a stranger calling a straight guy a faggot. Should the guy get all up in arms about what a stranger thinks of him? Probably not. Do most guys get that way though? Probably so. It's just a part of human nature, I think, to want to defend what we see as an attack and to take such things to a personal level whether they are meant personally or not. quote:
If my entire formal education had consisted of teachers mocking me for not knowing things (putting me in the stupid box as it were), or having erroneous ideas I would have dropped out of school by 12.. Fortunately they chose to educate me with logic and reason... And some of us try to do that here as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A voice of reason is often lost admist the chaos. quote:
Mockery is fine, I do it, I like doing it sometimes, but there comes a point when you carry it too far and make a mockery of the mockery, it simply looses it's intent and becomes as pathetic as the comments of the one being mocked.. Perhaps, since you see this so clearly, you won't be adding fuel to the fire when you know better. The choice remains your own. quote:
Do you really think that someone who's clueless gets the point made by the use of 'twue'? Oh, probably some do. If they stick around for a bit, they might even learn something. Most probably don't though.. but I can't help but wonder if they ever wanted anything more than a bit of attention and sympathy in the first place. Often we see new posters coming here for validation of their feelings. I don't begrudge them the attempt, but do question their style of doing so on occasion. quote:
Heck, I can think of one thread recently where one clueless had things explained to him pretty clearly in many ways by many people and he still doesn't get it, so hows 'twue' going to help? I do believe that I made the point about the reactions a poster can give that would be considered TOSable and, in addition, pointed that out as a reason some turn to mockery. Even the mods have their limit with mockery though and will shut down things when they go so far over the top they serve no purpose at all. I have neither defended mockery nor engaged in it. I'm much more comfortable with outright flaming, (as in the case of the poster who came shouting with bravado about their right as a "dominant" to put their hands on someone without consent just because they have the word Master attached to their ass) but mostly I try to post reasonable responses to questions .. and usually with my own brand of humor thrown in. My own brand doesn't typically include mocking. quote:
Anyway, the whole thing has become pretty darn stupid on both sides of the 'true/twue' fence... A bit like a runaway truetwue twain... It will, no doubt, run out of steam in the very near future .. that said, it will no doubt rear it's head again in the not so distant future. You can choose to comment or not at any time and life will carry on. Celeste
