Y'know what's really funny in all this? When I used "twue" it wasn't to mock anyone, to belittle anyone or with any other baggage EXCEPT: (I am now going to do something comedians and magicians are bound NEVER to do. I'm going to explain the trick. And as I think Iskander said about a gazillion posts above, if you have to explain a joke, it isn't very funny. Aw well.) "twue" -- when I used it -- wasn't a reference to any perceived superiority I feel over some other post. It wasn't used as a put down at all. It wasn't even, I have to say, originally a reference to Elmer, sainted-be-his-almigwty-name.* When I used it, it was a reference to a favorite movie of mine and of my girl - The Princess Bride - in which "The Impressive Clergyman" performs a ceremony in perfect Fudd speak, and at one point says "wuv...Twue wuv..." (the ceremony begins "Mawwaige is what bwings us together, today"). I think I also may have had in mind a passing reference to Madeline Kahn (sadly no longer with us): "Is it twue what they say about your people? OH its TWUE! ITS TWUE". Now that I've explained the joke, and robbed it of all its apparently damaging power to some of the people who post on here, I have to say that I am amazed at the ability of some people to print their neuroses onto the simple, playful words of others. It is fascinating (like a train wreck is sadly fascinating) to watch post after post about how offensive "baby talk" is, or how the use of "twue" was belittling and mocking. It makes Me wonder what demons those people have to battle every day to get out of bed I pity those of you who have nothing more in your lives than to get overly wrought up on something posted on a silly thread like this. Maybe you should see a movie tonight? I recommend "Blazing Saddles" or "The Princess Bride." Seriously – this isn’t a BDSM subject – it should be down in the off topic Section or Random Stupidity Section. And when I say I, I am stating this a truly subjective reality in the nicest possible way. You know what I dislike? True, Real, Nice… okok… These are words I loathe. Not because of what they mean – yes they are actually words that exist in the dictionary. But they are nothing and made meaningless when used in such a lazy fashion (as I see perceive it). This whole thread has come about because one person has taken exception to a small group of people who persecuted another small group of people in another post. Well, sorry to bust the bubble, but everyone – even those persecuted give as good at they get on the ‘lets take the piss front’. As Bita rightly noted earlier… no one has the balls to say - ‘hey, you are a fucking idiot’… but that’s not just to those that use the words true and real… they also don’t have the balls to say it to those who were ‘attacked’ when THEY take the piss or deride others. No one is perfect. And yes, I am being kinda confrontational, and no I am not naming names because A) they will probably be erased by the Mods anyway, and B) This isn’t meant as a personal attack, but Christ – someone has to say it and C) everyone knows anyway. Erin, I know you started this thread out of love for people you respect, but sometimes, those who you respect, and that respect you – do not respect others. And so yes, people get pissed and use humour as a form of derision and they look for flaws in the vain hope that they can bring others superiority as they see it, down a peg or two… And yes, its not ‘nice’ that people set up fake accounts and can’t be brave enough to just say – ‘Your points a point but its no fucking point to me’… Fact is – the mods obviously dealt with said situation – posts like this only drag up bad feeling again. So yes, it’s not ‘nice’ to deride people for their ‘real’ity. But the ‘truth’ is – not everyone is ‘nice’, or ‘real’ly ‘true’ to what they preach. Peace and Rapture

FR For those who have read Stranger in a Strange Land , When Michael first laughs and cannot stop laughing until he is crying he says that he finally gets what humor is about, it hurts so much sometimes you got to laugh. If you think about every joke you know of, or every funny story you know of, someone is on the short end of the stick. Best to laugh at yourself along with everyone else... Humor is closely related to human anguish... just like love is very close to hate... they are not really opposites, they are complimentaries.. laugh when you can, otherwise it maybe tears instead... or just take it all seriously.
