Jazz CD's, comic books, and cats.

I would happily collect single malt scotches if my partner could drink alcohol or if I weren't averse to drinking alone.

Suleiman: I trust you've seen Planetary/Batman? Nice appearences by the Bronze Age as well as the Dark Knight incarnations of Batman. The Golden Age incarnation is nicely drawn but sadly misinterpreted based on scurrilous fan rumors.

i do have to admit that my biggest collection (allways has been probably allways will be) i am allways giveing away selling doing whatever i can to cut it down to size is not actually an actuall hobby or collection rather it is the side effect of my favorite past time reading as i am a very avid reader the books just keep pileing up i mean just how many people when they get that science fiction book club thingy in the mail instead of thinking "hmmmm whitch 5-6 shall i get?" think "how am i supposed to pick JUST 5-6?!?!?"

so we all have a "geeky" thing we do as a hobby, or a collection of something (other than bills).

ME ? I collect vintage 1980's TRANSFORMER toys, and GO-BOTS (Machine-Robos for you Brits). Yep ! Autobots and Decepticons....

Good LORD but I thought I'd put Transformers and go-bots behind me! My kid was INTO them when they were hot, so of course I was one of the desparate mothers grabbing for the hard to get ones at xmas time (his bday is also Dec. 27!)

Having said that, I like fans, especially antique hand held fans.

Need to turn ya on to Single Malts :) smoooooooooooooooooooooooooth

Oh MAN, don't get me started!!!!!

My son was a typical over drinker of whatever was cheap. I recently turned him onto single malts and he has turned into a conservative (in consumption) monster (in his exploration of the various single malts).

Hey, he's learned the meaning of "less is more" and with alcohol that can't be a bad thing!

I'm partial to the MacCallan 18yr. Yeah, I know there are sooo many, but it's the one I tend to default back to.

I don't do it on purpose.. but I seem to collect hate mail, go figure.

I also collect glass & cast iron candle holders, fairies and shot glasses. My son used to "help" me collect rocks, of course this was his passion not mine, I just played along.

Well let's see, I started oug collecting David Winter cottages and then there was a change in company and the value started to decrease then I started collecting Cherished Teddies and I just got bored so, now I collect floggers. Hmm, is it safe to say that I don't stick with anything long enough to call it a hobbie?

One of the benefits of 'upgrading spirits' indeed. I drink maybe a few fingers a week.

MacCallan is good, their 25 year old isn't that much better than the 18 to justify price difference :) I'm n Islay guy.. the peatier the better... lagavulin, Laphroiag mmmm maybe awee nip before bed... :)

I'll bring a few to taste (The Balvenie,Lagavulin, Oban for sure) to taste as we down the martoonis :)

Best,
Joshua

Laphroiag is my absolute favorite. I had a botle languishing neglected in my pantry, finally I donated it to the synagogue where at least it would be tasted and appreciated!

How right you are regarding the 25 in comparison to the 18. I like the 18.

I haven't tried Islay, but I have to be in the mood for a lots of peat. I like the Balvenie's (they have a triple wood, don't they?) The other two I haven't tried but am looking forward to!

As for the tastes, I'd love it, but I'm not sure my stomach would tolerate the scotch and the martoonis. I'm SUCH a light weight drinker. ONE of sherri's martoonis finishes me. However, if you bring scotch to taste I will elect that over the martoonis if my stomach is cooperating that day.

YUMMY.

Oh I am so glad to know that I am not the only one hoarding away so many useless things.....or at least useless to some. It would be easier to ask me what I don't collect.

I collect antiques, Americana, advertising, fairies, pigs, Belleek and anything else Irish, tins, old kitchen stuff, candles and I have a thing for old wood boxes and trunks.

Guess I am building my nest.....lol.

Laphrioaig definitely has one of those unique tastes... one that I happen love.. mmm that peat combinded with the medicinal, iodine qualities some have compared to original Listerine. LOL

My favorite is the 15 year.. a bit smoother than the 10...with a longer finish. I only had the opportunity to try the 30 year once - and it was incrdibly full.. but way too expensive to justify. If I won the lottery though lol.

My favorite Islay is still the Lagavulin 16... nto quite the iodine content as lapghraig - though the distilleries are in fact neighbors. It's flavor to me is more rounded, with abit more fruitiness peaking around the peat smokiness.

Nice gift to the synogogue! A Mitzvah indeed :)

Best,
Joshua

MisSuz

Not sure about the Balvenie triple wood, though I enjoy their double wood tremendously. I hear they also have made a islay malt - though it is unavalable throgh PA's state iquor board. Very interesting for a speyside distillery, I can only imagine what it would be like. I usally buy the single cask batches - 15 years. Wow! Yummmmm.

Have you tried any of the Glenmorangie wood cask bottlings? The Madiera is perhaps the most unique, but I tend towards the Sherry often when I'm p for something sweet. The oak is my least favorite of the three.

and I'll gladly take your martoonis while you focus on the scotch tastings lol I never seem to be able to make a martini (vodka or gin) that I could atually enjoy.. but I do love drinking other's concotions.. looking forward to it for a myriad of reasons :)

best
Joshua

Not to sound ignorant or anything here but I am. What is a finger? Is that like a shot?
I've never drank alcohol in my life. It just tastes crappy to me. Now, if there was some grand drink where you could not taste it, I would.
I do however microbrew beer for Doug though. It's real hard when he doesn't want to be brutally honest with me when I make some. Not knowing how it should taste I have to rely on him. I absolutely love to experiment. Adding this and subtracting that. Hehe.
