Hmm....
WtH actually said something I agree with.

The comments that ProDommes are prostitutes does seem pretty off. If they are, then so are exotic dancers.

Some dancers are prostitutes as well, so are some ProDommes. But by no means all or even most.

Not all professional doms are "prostitutes", but they are all sex workers.  As are streetwalkers and call girls, exotic dancers, phone sex operators, escorts, massage parlor attendents, and just about anyone who works in a professional exhibitionism capacity--from the most hot-n'-heavy pornstar to the waittress at Hooters.

All sex workers have some problems and concerns in common, among them being social censure, the potential for violent or abusive behavior from clients and supervisors, and arbitrary legal crackdowns on their trade which are inflicted by government authorities at every level from the city council to the Federal government.

Virtually all of the above are grounded in our society's childish intolerance and misunderstanding of human sexuality, in my opinion.

Hello A/all,

I was reading a fascinating article, although the magazine it was in escapes me, about a doctor in India who has succeeded in establish a trade union for prostitutes.  His entire approach was based on the idea that

a)  The sex trade is not going anywhere anytime soon.

b)  Sex workers in India are becoming ill of HIV and other STDs at alarming rates.

c)  They are a professional service and should be accorded things like benefits, professional status, collective bargaining, scale pay, etc.

He encountered a great deal of opposition, primarily from religious groups and other opponents of the prostitution industry who seem to believe if will somehow go away.

But his main opposition was from the sex workers themselves.  His whole purpose in doing this was to make condom use a demand by the prostitutes to cut the number contracting STDs.  Their objection was that if they insisted on using a condom, the John would wander down the street to somebody else who did not insist.

He ultimately won out.  There is now a professional sex worker's trade union in India and condoms are a requirement.  The statistical number of new cases of HIV in India dropped dramatically after this union became established.

I believe he stated when talking about it that one of his inspirations was the Netherlands, who have sex trade workers unions, are provided benefits, paid holidays, etc.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

No, I agree--that is very, very good news.  The gene for immunity to HIV infection is very rare in India and Africa, and I'm very happy to hear that any positive steps have been taken to help control the spread of the disease in one of those populations.

I found it beyond cool.

There was another article in Scientific American a few months back about a research study done on long haul truckers in the United States.  The article was fascinating because the person who did the study really went out and researched it extensively and proved that long haul truckers and the life they live is a major source of heterosexual cases of HIV.

But the article also pointed out that the Republican majority in congress are cutting their research grant with the reason that "it supports the trucker's sexual activities."

People have certain behaviors.  I am always fascinated when people put their fingers in their ears, scream LALALALALALA, and expect that those people will not engage in those behaviors any more.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

I belive that about long haul truckers.
My brother was one for many years and told us stories of the "Lot Lizzards" prostitutes that ply the L.H. trucker trade.
You can find them on the C.B. radio or wandering the parking lots in truck stops.
I think prostution should be legalized in the U.S.
I lived in Nevada for a year and they ran it very well there.
I really don't think Pro Dommes are doing anything that would "hurt" society.

I especially liked the bit about us all being here, only
because we've all been abused in the past.

Hi Lady Ellen,

How would you like it if I said, "I especially like the line from
Lady Ellen where she said everyone here uses cocaine
and that is the reason they are into bdsm?"

I never said a single person here had been abused in their
past, let alone EVERYONE here has been abused in their
past.

Lady Ellen, you keep attibuting to me words I never said.

> That was really insightful and very empathetic in relation
> to those who were abused who are here, and especially
> for those who were abused and are not here; clearly bdsm
> is a symptom of our sickness, and those who were abused
> who are not here are repressing their symptoms, which cant

First, you make up something silly, attribute it to me, and
attack that thing you made up.   What drives you to do this?

Cheers,
Michael

Dear Lady Ellen,

I'm done with trying to save you.

I just think it goes to show, if someone's drowning but insists they can swim,
you can throw as many life preservers to them as you want, they'll just never
take them, and eventually sink beneath the water. Well, I'm done throwing life
preservers to Lady Ellen, so she can rescue herself without looking like an
idiot.  She might drown, she might paddle about a bit longer, but I'm not
sure she'll ever swim.

Cheers,
Michael

Going back to the original OP.  I'd like to hear the men's definition of their  criteria is that determines for THEM that a woman is a prostitute?
