I have always found groups that tolerate anything to be more fucked up than those who don't.  However, many of those who are intolerant are absolutely intolerable to me.

It is along the lines of if you don't stand for something you will fall for everything.  Understanding of others is a necessary component of being able to get along in the world, but not having an opinion about anything, can lead those to become fast members of the fucked up group that you just mentioned.  i will also be the first to admit that i am fallible, (especially if it is in my best interests to do so *weg*) and hope that i judge with that in mind, but then that makes my judgement of my ability to judge, fallible! LOL So...there ya go. *grin

But lately, i have noticed that you seem to have to blatantly single folks out at times and it makes me wonder about your intentions or purpose for doing so.  Just my usual curious nature Crappy, not meant to insult or anything. *smile

I just read that, drinking a coke and laughed AND hiccuped at the same time.

That was painful.

reminds me of a champagne burp.........I don't drink soda so tend to forget the potential problems of carbonation

LaTigresse -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 10:54:11 AM)

Regarding the topic........I think it is just like people in general. You are going to find all sorts. Alot of them are pretty decent human beings, alot more of them I am glad I don't know.

CrappyDom -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 10:56:42 AM)

Are you speaking of the BDSM forums or the political ones?

I hate pomposity in anyone but myself (in my case it is a virtue) and I enjoy poking holes in it.  I hope that random passerbies might gain some insight and avoid the pitfalls that to many of us are painfully obvious but to people new to the scene they are not.

Most of these "issues" are quite common, which is why LA can post 20 some links, none of them all that old on almost any given thread.  Either that or I am on the rag and simply being an asshole at the moment, probably a bit of truth in both of those.

*starts swearing a blue streak as it almost comes out her nose this time* Fucking fizz....

I made somebody spew chunky soup from their nose once...

Great fun [sm=banana.gif]

I made my mother spew Chardonnay out her nose in a fine restaurant once.

Was probably wrong, but I still laugh about it.

Sinergy

People tend to find it easy to make me laugh.  I have therefore been made to snarf :

Coffee
Milk
Orangejuice
Soda
Ramen noodles
Rice
Various soups
Various beers
Vodka *edited to add cranberry juice mixed with the vodka*
Ehh....that's about it I think.

Hi there Raymond!  How have you been?  Got your message.

MasterFireMaam -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 11:13:53 AM)

When I started in the scene, I too was surprised by the quality of some people. I had expected something better since what the community seems to want is tolerance from those who are not like us. Then, I woke up to reality. People are people, no matter where you go. This means there are people who behave well, and people who behave poorly, in ALL walks of life, including this one. Try to accept that they have the right to feel anything they wish, but also realize you have the right to remove yourself from their influence if it's not good for you.

Master Fire

Dnomyar -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 11:13:59 AM)

Exotic but different?  That was a lot of help.

whether or not BDSMers could be considered a coherent group is for another discussion.

True

As long as they aren't committing us to mental asylums it doesn't bother me if people think I'm a nasty pervert.

There are people out there that believe we should all be locked up.  With the direction civil liberties are currently headed in this country I wouldn't be too suprized if there was an attempt to do just that in the forseeable future and historically it seems that when a group of people get together to squash another group the more organized one usually wins.  I doubt it would be completely effective, since there are so many different specifics and levels of involvement, but it could greatly impact quite a few of us.  If the anti-kink machine is collectively focused on a single goal and we are too busy pointlessly arguing with each other to fight back how are we supposed to aviod such a fate?

No, I'm not trying to start a political debate with this comment, but it is something to think about.

Dnomyar -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 11:25:09 AM)

Master Fire I agree. To many walk in here with Rose colored glasses. You would think that this would be a more tolerant place. Also a more asshole free  place. There are more pitfalls here than in the vanilla world. If you exercise care and paitence you should be ok.

Dnomyar -> RE: What do you think? (10/20/2006 11:29:22 AM)

I have a question Tenebrious.  How do you fight back. You can't get people here to agree on much. So who do you go to for support?

Ok, so this is an interesting reason for promoting community harmony.

(By the way:  I'm Australian and we are quite psychologically different from Americans.  I don't think many Australians care enough to realistically threaten anyone's sex life)

Should we discuss this subject here or is it off topic:  Do you think that there is a real threat to sexual freedom in America today?

My favorite examples of the direction society seems to be heading are found in the books:

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

Because people learn at an early age that instant gratification is the way to go, they become completely self-involved and unable to fathom higher concepts.

The Handmaid's Tale - I dont remember who wrote this.

The joy of the religious right taking over and dictating how women are supposed to live their lives.

1984 - H. G. Wells

Although less about how it is being done and more about the motivations of those doing it.

There is a line from the movie "Secondhand Lions" where Robert Duvall states in essence "A man needs to believe in something that is bigger than himself, it does not matter if this is true or not, it is believing in it that makes a boy into a man."

About the comment that the most organized usually wins, I would caveat that by saying that while this is true, the most organized usually end up collapsing under the weight of their own internecine conflicts.

My point exactly

also,
quixotic: Idealistic without regard to practicality
ambiguous: Susceptible to multiple interpretation

It is a little off topic and I don't want to stray too far toward the political side of things without starting a new thread in the proper section, but I believe there is a real threat.
