I thought things were going a little too smoothly with TO. It's been, what? 3 or four weeks at least since he pulled some boner move?

I'd like to see a suspension at least, not simply a fine. He's Toxic like Katy says, I have called him the human form of cyanide for a while now. He did this to a supposed friend because he got in his face and was bugging him?  I can't imagine what he would do to a stranger. I just can't stand him, I never wish any one ill, but can't help but believe alot of bad things are coming his way. < karma>

The most interesting football theory I've heard discussed lately by pundits is:

There are no bad quarterbacks, only bad teams.

Of course there are bad QBs, but the wisdom here is that a good QB can't carry the load on a bad team.

Exhibit A: Jeff Garcia: Horrible in DET and CLE but getting it done in PHI.

Exhibit B: Steve McNair: Two bad losing seasons in TN with decent passing numbers, now MVP in BAL.

Exhibit C: Tom Brady: A slowed running game, an anonymous receiving core, and a sub-par season.

Exhibit D: Peyton Manning: Two (2) All Pro WRs, excellent pass blocking line, MVPesque season. Great Cast, great performance. Will he win the Super Bowl, probably not.

In sum a good QB on a bad team might look much worse than he is. A great QB (Manning) in a great system might not win the big games because of the overall team. A great QB surrounded by less talent becomes just a good QB (Brady). A good QB given the tools to win will take advantage of them (Garcia and McNair).

A QB, in the end, is only equal to the sum of his parts.

Oh, and BTW, I think Shanahan's move to Cutler was a mistake. He should have lived or died with Plummer for the whole season, unless and until the Bronchos were eliminated.

Interesting theory, and makes sense with the examples given. Let's see them apply it to some other guys like Ryan Leaf, Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Brooks, Jake Plummer . . . .

I will be surprised if he's with the Cowboys next season.  Why would they put up with his nonsense when they can get other skilled receivers?  Also, he may have finger surgery in the off-season.

Buddy ball lives!!!

I just saw that the Ravens' D-coordinator is Rex Ryan, son of Buddy. Buddy Ryan is one of my favorite coaches ever, and the only "offspring" I was aware of was Jeff Fisher who had played for him.

After checking Rex's bio, I also learned he has a brother coaching for the Raiders, but they suck so nobody cares about him.

This is difficult for me because it gives me a reason to like the Ravens and it is much easier to hate them.

Reason #1 to hate the Ravens = Ray Lewis

Good link, Katy. The playoff picture should start clearing up at least a bit after this week.

I heard the comentators talking about it during the game today.  I need help with this stuff, especially when they start talking about Team A has to win or tie and Team B has to tie or lose, etc (it's so confusing).
My team is basically out of the picture as we have the Ravens and the Bengals to close the season.  But if we can spoil something or make it more difficult for the Ravens that would be fun.

The way your guys are playing, they may knock both teams off.

And Dallas got a lock on a playoff spot today, yayhoo. [:D]

I've picked some things right this year and I've picked some things wrong, but these seem to be things you can take to the bank:

1.  The NFC is so bad that New Orleans and Seattle wouldn't even be in the playoff hunt in the AFC, and they're division leaders in the NFC.
2.  Thursday night is a great time to pick an upset if you're the betting kind.
3.  Jacksonville sucks on the road.
4.  Vince Young is better than Michael Vick.

I just thought Id drop in to give a somewhat reserved but sincere high five to katy as her beloved Stillers have finally won a game.
Katy, I hope you enjoyed it over a tasty frozed adult beverage.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/17/2006 6:43:23 PM)

Yep, we seem to be able to dig deep and beat the teams that suck.  Check back next week when we have to deal with the Ravens defense.  They scare me.

TahoeSadist -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/18/2006 7:44:40 AM)

Re: the Steelers. There still are some very questionable play calls on offense i.e. when we have 3rd and 2, I do not want to see Ben back in the shotgun formation. It seems to signal that Pittsburgh is afraid to mix it up on the line for short yardage runs which is just most un-Steelerish. Overall though perhaps everyone on the team will learn that when you keep the ball in your hands, and take it away from their hands, you can win games. Of course, it was a near thing with Holmes muffing yet another punt.
As to next week, it'll be interesting to see if McNair will play. If he doesn't it may be time to bet the under.

Eric

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/18/2006 10:14:41 AM)

I would like to see the Steelers hand in to the Ravens next week.  They killed us a few weeks ago.  Holmes makes me nervous, I keep my reminding myself "he's a rookie, he's a rookie."

Tonight MNF, is the Bengals vs Colts.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/18/2006 3:48:20 PM)

Bengals and Colts; who can score the most points?

The Bengals D has tightened up a little the last few weeks (unlike Indy's), so Peyton and the boys might be in for some trouble.

Santonio Holmes is talented, but he does tend to fumble a bit, doesn't he?

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/18/2006 4:11:32 PM)

My brother told me that I have to root for the Colts tonight.  That's a bit distasteful.  hehe

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/18/2006 9:37:37 PM)

Steve Young made the insightful comment tonight that every AFC team is flawed.  What the hell?  Last I checked, the game was played by human beings.  Of course every team is flawed.

Sometimes that guy says the stupidest things.
