As Oscar Wilde observed - "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."

I wish I had said that...

I would like to get some feedback from others who might have been in a similar sitation.

Something pretty bad, well, really bad happened to me earlier this year.  I don't really want to give detail about the act, but it caused a lot of horrible things in my life, that I am still to this day trying to work out.

I hear some say that revenge is sweet, but since I have never gotten it, I am not sure.  In this, I won't get hurt anymore, and no one will be hurt physically or anything.

Part of me is sooooo tired of being treated bad, and wants to do this..the other part is torn and hates to hurt anyone ever.  Heck, even when I found the nightie of the woman my fiance' was cheating with, I put it in something so she could have it back, rather than throwing it in the trash.

I just wonder, have you ever had the chance to "get back" at someone?  Did you take it?  How did you feel after?  Do you regret either doing it, or not doing it?  Am I wrong for having these feelings, is this something I should just keep in my head, and not actually do..and just live with the satisfaction I could have, but didn't??

Ugh, I hate when what I write doesn't quite make sense, I hope it does to someone.

Revenge? Nope, not for an ex-spouse, not worth it.
I look at it like she did me a favor which,.....she did!
Just walk away and have a good life.

personally, i would go for it... but that's only because i personally cannot really let anything go; if it can't be solved in a conversation, i get creative

but, if you are having a crisis of conscience about it, and that's what i'm seeing; even if there are no other consequences (and there are usually consequences you can't see before hand), you will have to live with your actions and i don't think you'd like yourself very much

SirKenin -> RE: Is revenge sweet? (10/26/2006 8:54:59 PM)

From My personal experience, I have to say that revenge is not as sweet as they say all the time.  That depends though.  If I use the system to My advantage then yes it can be, but I found that if you take matters into your own hands, then no it is not.  Actually I found it leaves feelings of guilt afterwards and a sort of emptiness.  It is somewhat hard to explain, but the end result is that it does not accomplish what you expected it to do.

Edit:  As an afterthought and to add to what I was saying, if it was a personal issue, let Karma do it's thing.  Karma is wonderful.  Leave your conscience clear.

Arpig -> RE: Is revenge sweet? (10/26/2006 11:33:10 PM)

Yes I have had the chance to "get back" on many occaisions, and no I have not done so. I felt a little cheated at not having gotten my revenge, and while I don't really regret not having gotten my revenge, I often wish I had.
You are not wrong to have feelings of this sort, and it isn't necessarily wrong if you act on the feelings (depending on what it is you have in mind). However, I personally recommend taking the course of action you end your post with: Don't do it, and enjoy the knowledge that you could have, but chose not to.

I can think of a lot of evil bastards (and not so evil ones) throughout history that appeared to lead very satisfying lives without apparent guilt. One can't equate death with karma since we all die. Karma is a belief system without evidence like god.

Another way of looking at this -- don't allow this person any more power in your life.  By this I mean the power this person is exerting over you by the fact that you are considering revenge.  It is difficult to walk away, but in the long run it may be better for you.  Be pleased that you are able to take the high road.

All it does is prove to you and everyone else that you are in fact no better than the person who wronged you.

Besides...it's so much more enjoyable when you can watch "it" come around to that person and be able to enjoy it with a clean conscience. [:)]

....the best revenge is living well........

I fully agree. Just like the old song "You can't keep a good man down"

What goes around comes around and you don't have to lift a finger. As a matter of fact, by living well, helping a peeve in the past hurts them more than any cruel act I can think of. For some reason, the phrase "Jesus loves you" pisses people off more than saying "You're a cum sucking whore who wears shit for make up"

By not stooping to the lower level, you win the battle by up holding your dignity while the other person only becomes more angry with rage making a moron out of themselves.

Alaska;
When you give all you have with the best intentions to someone who treats you with such disrespectful behavior, to someone who cheats, lies, and play "the nice" perfect guy, you don't need to get your hands dirty with revenge, because GOES AROUND, COME AROUND.
Lift your head up high and move on!!! Don't let  memories from that jerk piece of crap hurt you either!

I think it is hilarious that so many posters keep throwing out the trite saying, Karma is a Bitch. Karma will get them in the End, What Goes Around Comes Around...ugh, such bullshit.

Let me enlighten you all: there is no such thing as KARMA, BAD PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH SHIT ALL THE TIME AND NEVER MEET THE ELUSIVE KARMA.

If someone fucks you over, you are fucked over; end of story. Unless you try to fuck them over, that is IT. Karma is as good as the Tooth Fairy, Santa, Little Green Men and the Boogey Man.

THIS THREAD IS DEAD...IT IS OVER A YEAR OLD.....

TheHeretic -> RE: Is revenge sweet? (11/18/2007 6:26:03 PM)

To the OP:  Damn straight it is.  Choose your means and timing well, be sure you aren't merely starting a cycle with your victim, and don't get caught.

Edit:  LOL.  I just realized this was an old thread and that I had already replied with a very different sort of answer.  I must have been having one of my nice days or something.

FangsNfeet -> RE: Is revenge sweet? (11/18/2007 8:23:58 PM)

Time has always been at my side for vengence. As the old saying goes "Forgiven but never forgotten."

I remember bullies all the way back from Kindergarden. I remember mean teachers, back stabbing friends, thives and liars. I remember ex partners, being used, and betrayl.

The funny thing is that moving on has been my best revenge. The past is done, the NOW is where I'm at. Just about everyone who had done wrong to me is either dead or in a bad situation brought on by there own demise. What went around came around and I never had to lift a finger.

Waiting, ploting, and seeking out revenge is not worth my time. My own improvment, success, and still having all my hair has made my past enimies bow in fear for NOW has become there worse nightmare.

It's all about the Karma. If you move on and soak up all the good, you only leave your advisary with the bad and it hits them hard in the end.

It's obviously not dead if people are still finding new things to say.

And please do stop shouting.

velvetears -> RE: Is revenge sweet? (11/19/2007 12:28:45 AM)

i did get revenge once - i am not normally a vengeful person, but my cheek could not  be turned any longer.  i did not get the satisfaction i thought i would. In fact i felt pretty shitty - very guilty and wish i could have undone what i did.  i thought the experience was going to be more satisfying but it just left me empty.
