SirKenin -> Bush oks 700 mile fence (10/27/2006 5:30:09 PM)

There has been much ranting in here about illegal immigrants coming from Mexico.  I just noticed a headline at CNN about a new fence Bush just signed for that will go along your border.  Do you think it will help?

It would be a much nicer fence if you put Bush on the other side of it and kept HIM out[8|] of the U.S.

First off, if a fence gets built, it wont do anything.  It will be tunnelled under, driven around, whatever.

But I dont think a fence will be built.  I think Monkeyboy is doing what he always does, signs bills into law and relies on his party's control of congress to ensure it does not get funded.

The only thing the Simian in Chief is doing with this bill is to try to drum up support for the party he has spent 6 years shooting in the head.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

No, it wont help.

Bush is probably investing in Mexico in the production of wire-cutters.

I agree with Sinergy, though: it is a ruse to draw in votes. Never judge a politician by empty promises and laws and intends before an election. He should always be judged by what he has accomplished, not by his promising the moon or cattle with horns of gold.

ZenrageTheKeeper -> RE: Bush oks 700 mile fence (10/27/2006 5:36:59 PM)

Depends on what its made of, how high it is, and how well its guarded.

If its a 20ft stone blockade with armed guards drivng along side of it.. it could work.

I bet China would love to supply the labourers to build that wall: another Chinese Wall.

Once again....

As always with fake Texas cowboy from Kennebunkport ,Maine Bush....

Bush’s ‘Fence Bill’ Doesn’t Actually Create Fence

No sooner did Congress authorize construction of a 700-mile fence on the U.S.-Mexico border last week than lawmakers rushed to approve separate legislation that ensures it will never be built, at least not as advertised, according to Republican lawmakers and immigration experts.

If it gets built.

(Which, of course...it won't).

Walls worked so well for Emperor Hadrian and the first Qin Emperor of China.

Mexicans have been immigrating to the US for years. The job shortages started when immigrants came over here from India and the Middle East and when companies started outsourcing. Even worse, when the men  do come here, they treat women like shit. I've met plenty of friendly Mexicans. I have yet to meet a decent guy from India. Mexico isn't the problem.

How many men from India have you met?

My sister had a neighbor from India. He had a spoiled rotten wife and daughter whom he treated like princesses....

Our town is so very diverse and alot of our stores are run by people from Indian/ Pakistan and I must say they are the most respectful, polite people I have ever met. They work their asses off too! One man from India works 8am-10pm 6 days a week! If I go to the store and I'm 50 cents short they will tell me "that's ok bring it in next time" cause I come there so much..they even allowed me to have credit in their store when times were really rough...I cant say anything negative about them...[:)]

ILLEGALS (whoever they are) ARE the problem....NOT legal immigrants.

Open borders..is the problem.

A 700 mile fence on a 2000 mile border...[:-]

Sinergy, again I agree with you about that POS Bush.
If he actually wanted to close that border all he has to do is put U.S. Troops along that border then declare Martial Law along the entire length of it.
After a few dozen are shot down no-one would take the chance anymore.
The whole solution to that problem is "Boots on the Ground."
However, there needs to be a certainty that people who sneak into our country will be deported.
We can't do that with 2,200 INS agents.
Congress should vote for and fund 50,000 INS agents.
Most of the people caught and deported aren't caught by the INS (I.C.E. I think they call it now, I've been retired for a few years.)
they're caught by local and state police dept's for something as simple as not having a driver's liscense. Or bouncing a check or things other than being an illegal alien.
But when they combine the two then they can jail them on an immigration hold indefinately.
But, it's really a very simple matter to close that border but Bush doesn't want to because too many of his rich buddies are getting richer off of it.

Nope, even if it got built (doubtful) it wouldn't help.  When there is a will, there is a way.  What would help, but isn't being done, is slapping heavy, heavy fines on those employing illegal aliens.  If there is no work to be found for those here illegally, the motivation to come decreases.

No big surprise here. I suspected more smoke and mirrors from the moment I heard the news.

Being that the border is 1,951 miles long, it seems to me that all aspiring illegal immigrants would need to do is simply avoid the wall and cross elsewhere... if the wall is ever built.
