I'm glad someone pointed this out.

IME, a restraining order simply is a piece of paper, but it's an important one: it provides a paper trail and legal recourse on established prior bad acts. All the party needs to do is contact you or others, (family, friends), listed on the FRO, and they will be prosecuted. It provides a foothold to protect your privacy, tip the scales in a custody hearing, and be able to request and receive immediate police attention in response to violations.

For a piece of paper, it can be invaluable. With those insistent on continuing violence and harassment, it gives them the room to hang themselves, with the FRO acting as the noose.

OP, get a restraining order/protective order ASAP. Seek counseling and support through the Domestic Violence centers in your county. Follow up through Family Court concurrently and establish a written custody order or that too may become a problem if you did not prosecute him previously - he still legally has rights to his child and may decide to fight for them to be a thorn in your side.

It may seem petty to you now that you may feel you are 'away', but scars upon the soul are the ones that undoubtedly need healing.

I believe a restraining order is the difference between justifiable homicide and murder when you have dead body in your front room.

I've not read the whole of the initial post, nor all of the responses. I just do not understand why people continue to let negativity corrupt their lives....there ARE other options.. Indulging a person only leaves the door open for more...
