As usual this is from another post. My question is When is spanking actualy a spanking? Useing a hand or a paddle is my ideal of a Spanking. Useing anything else is a beating.

Seems like a clear cut case of semantics- whatever word suits your preference. I could call a few swats down the hall a spanking.

I think anything that involves strictly striking the buttocks is a spanking - regardless of whether barehanded or with an implement. [:)]

The dictionary definition is "to strike especially on the buttocks with the open hand". That is how I use it. Anything else is a paddling, caning, flogging, etc. But if someone else uses the term for other types of play I can usually figure out what they are talking about.

Maybe we should all just agree to disagree and leave it there Jeff?? lol The online dicitionary I look at gives the first definition of spanking as: 1. moving rapidly and smartly. A cane certainly does that [;)]

Depending on what dictionary one uses (yes I'm bored today) there are several different definitions. Some of them could very easily encompass caning as a form of spanking. So, whatever anyone wants to use the term spanking for, is fine by me. Does it really matter as long as everyone knows what the other is talking about?

There is a point to made though that if One is planning to "spank" with a cane it should be clarified before the "spanking" begins? Sometimes the element of surprise isn't appreciated - lol.

i know tht when i was in school they used to say "Going to the dean's office to get paddled" they didn't say spanked. my Mom used to spank on rare occasions and when she'd use a "switch" (cane like implement) on even rarer occasions she'd call it getting "switched" soooo Maybe spanking is the whole open hand on a butt thing...or maybe just like everything else it will have to come down to communication and the definition on a "relationship" by "relationship" basis.
